PB hotel design editorial

Blue dichroic fins catch Xiamen's coastal light differently at every hour — a deliberate gesture on the curtain-walled tower that houses W Xiamen, rising some forty floors above the Siming District with the kind of chromatic ambition that has become the brand's calling card in China's second-tier cities. The facade's iridescent cladding panels, visible cascading down the dark glass skin in the exterior image, shift from teal to violet as dusk settles over the Taiwan Strait — a building that performs as much as it shelters. Inside, the interiors strike a balance between the W brand's signature maximalism and something more locally inflected. Guest rooms carry cobalt blue headboards with softly arched louvres — a form that sits somewhere between Art Deco revival and contemporary Chinese furniture design — set against oak-panelled walls and geometric chevron rugs in grey and white. The all-day dining space pushes further into sensory excess: tomato-red curved banquettes and leather armchairs arranged against floor-to-ceiling iridescent glass partitions in acid yellow, violet, and green, tropical planting cascading from the ceiling in deliberate counterpoint to the hard urban panorama beyond the glazing. The upper-floor pool deck, lined with mosaic tile and circular island daybeds, uses neon-pink LED strips and louvred metallic screening to transform the lap pool into something closer to an installation than a leisure amenity — Xiamen's skyline rendered as backdrop.

"Everything is above my expectations. Guess room also equipped with sound bar, room is new with good accessibility. Welcome amenity also includes some local foods. NINE also brings an impressive service for me. Many thanks to Scott and Nyla who provided a thoughtful service with passion. Your service brought me a good mood for all day. Foods are good and price worthy. Both buffet and a la cart has strong local characteristics. A wonderful stay that makes me looking forward to back in the future."

"Spacious room with the expected W playful psychedelic vibes. Bed was comfortable. Minor issue - no shoe horn provided. Gym was great. Technogym equipment and smith machine. Of note was the uncommon skillmill. Late dinner till 11pm available in their Nine restaurant and the breakfast spread was good."

"Pros. - Full of light and colour show everywhere with trendy pop music - The best equipped gym with Technogym ever at 36th floor with stunning view of city, ocean and sunset - Huge breakfast buffet area and choices Cons. - The service was good but not as great as Hyatt Andaz in Xiamen with similar price level (not 150% customer oriented)"

"Greatest thx for Joanna & her impressive team to show how amazing W Xiamen is for the stay. My parents spend an unforgettable night here for their 50 anniversary wedding memorial. Not only enjoy the tasty & delicate Chinese dishes in MinYen(on 3rd floor) Restaurant ,but also experience almost every famous local food at Nine Restaurant (on 5th floor) for the breakfast. By the way, however the decoration & interior are so trendy in every details of the hotel, but still feel full of the hospitality & passion from every stuff. It's not easy, but W Xiamen make it by the efforts of every stuffs. Don't hesitate , make a booking now then set off for a joyable trip & experience the warmest hospitality in W Xiamen."

"A really super hotel with great staff. Couple of nights here. Easy parking, comfy rooms with some amazing artwork, helpful friendly staff and delicious food. We tried the various restaurants, dinner buffet had a wide variety to choose from as did breakfast. Chinese restaurant was very well done, lots of detail to presentation and using local flavours. Afternoon tea was a lot of fun especially the service of the chocolate bottle of sparkling mocktail. The pool looks great (as do all W pools) and the gym has a super variety of equipment to muscle building as well as aerobic training. There’s a shopping mall connected to the hotel is conveniently accessible without going outside. Well worth a visit to this hotel and we plan to return"
