PB hotel design editorial

Brick and raw concrete have always been Bogotá's honest vernacular, and The Artisan D.C. Hotel, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, commits to that language without apology. The facade's warm terracotta coursing frames full-height steel-and-glass window walls at street level, a red-lacquered door providing the single chromatic disruption — a deliberate compositional accent that reappears throughout the interior. Set in the city's financial district on Calle 26, the property draws its design concept from the crafts and literary culture of Colombia, placing Gabriel García Márquez quotations on guestroom walls alongside pop-art portraiture and talavera-inspired ceiling motifs in cobalt and cream. The lobby carries the atmosphere of a Bogotá intellectual's private library — tufted leather Chesterfield sofas arranged beneath a blackened steel mezzanine, open shelving lined with ceramics and bound volumes, a rose-copper pendant lamp hanging at the centre like a suspended thought. The bar continues this industrial warmth with a curved dark-fluted counter, red leather stools on turned walnut legs, and exposed brick forming the back wall behind bottle-laden steel shelving. Guestrooms shift registers depending on floor and category: some feature raw brick accent walls with talavera-patterned bed runners and painted ceiling ornament, others deploy red enamel pendants and mesh-fronted wardrobes in an earthier, workshop-inflected palette. Wide-plank dark timber flooring connects both registers, giving the property a material consistency that holds its eclectic cultural references in check.

"The front desk service was excellent throughout. Iberia Airlines had not put my luggage on my intercontinental flight, so had to deliver it to the hotel before I arrived from another city and the hotel handled it well, as well as directions for the many excellent restaurants within walking distance and my numerous requests for document printouts. The Cooper wine bar / restaurant is not good. The wine list is limited and poor quality, especially for the price. The lobby and lift areas are dark. The room is awkward with little space around the bed, and I am a petite single traveller."

"Really well appointed hotel that is well located hotel and with excellent service. I’m too old for the bar scene here but there is definitely a loud and busy one; only complaint is rooms are not as quiet as I’d like — some street noise and walls are on thin side. I’d you’re not doing a boutique hotel this is a strong points play for Bogota"

"We stayed four nights at the The Artisan D.C Hotel between Christmas and New Year. The hotel is beautiful, well kept and the neighborhood was excellent. We loved the warm decor and boutique feel of the hotel. The area surrounding the hotel is clean and safe to walk even at night. We walked to dinner every evening and found a new restaurant close by each time. Restaurante Armadillo directly across the street was our favorite. However, the hotel was lacking was in service, primarily before our arrival. Their lack of attention spilled over to our stay and left us with a less than desirable feel. We had contacted the hotel prior to our arrival for transfers from the airport, we were informed that we would be contacted once arrangements were made. After some time, we had no confirmation of transport, so called back the hotel speaking to a gentleman who stated again that we would be informed once they had arranged transportation. We still heard nothing, so made prepaid arrangements through Emirates Airline. We were then contacted and given information about our driver, assuming this was the one we paid for, we accepted our ride and arrived at the hotel. Apparently the hotel arranged transport, but did not inform us. We ended up paying for the transportion the we arranged AND that the hotel arranged. The frustrating part is the decision to require us to pay, was made after management looked into the situation. The deciding factor seemed to be that they had emailed us with the confirmation. When we asked what email it was sent to, we saw it was not ours. They stated that we gave them the wrong email!! What ??? Why?? We also called twice to get confirmation, but received none. We did pay them for their error, but left the hotel feeling like we were dealing with scammers. Very unfortunate because the property is very nice if you do not count the lack of accountability."
