PB hotel design editorial

Fitted into the mixed-use Santa Bárbara complex in Bogotá's upscale Usaquén district, where a cluster of dark-clad residential towers rise above a landscaped podium, the W Bogotá announced the brand's arrival in Colombia with the chromatic intensity the chain has made its signature. The exterior, visible at night as a facade of stacked horizontal fins washed in electric blue, sits within a broader masterplan that gives the hotel its ground-level garden approach — low plantings, linear lighting, and a raw concrete canopy framing the entrance in a language closer to urban infrastructure than traditional hospitality arrival. Inside, the interiors carry the full W playbook at considerable volume. The WET deck lounge deploys cascading brass chain curtains, oversized circular pendants, circular banquettes in charcoal leather, purple velvet ottomans, and a large-scale graffiti mural backlit in neon — a combination that makes nightclub and lobby feel like the same room. Guest rooms divide between two moods: one palette runs to teal-upholstered headboards that sweep across the ceiling in a continuous quilted canopy, gold satin runners, and yellow lacquered side tables; the other works in chartreuse mosaic tile, brass pendant mirrors, and a dark geometric ceiling treatment that curves down to embrace the bed. The all-day dining space steps back from this intensity — warm oak floors, yellow armchairs, curved cove lighting — as if giving the property somewhere to breathe between the spectacle.

"I will never stay at the W Bogota again. For a luxury brand, this property fails across the board. To start, the service is sub-par at best. I explicitly confirmed an early check-in for 12:00 PM noon a full week in advance. Despite this, when I arrived at 2:00 PM—two hours after my requested time—my room still wasn't ready, and I was forced to wait. When I finally got in, I noticed the hotel felt noticeably dirty and poorly maintained. To make matters worse, the staff showed zero care for basic hospitality; the doorman never once opened the door for us or offered any assistance with our luggage. I also suffered from altitude sickness during the trip. When I asked the staff for coca tea—a standard, basic remedy available everywhere in the city—they flatly told me they couldn't accommodate the request. The property is also in a less than ideal location. There are so many significantly better hotels in Bogota situated in better areas for a fraction of what this place charges. Save your money and your sanity—stay somewhere else."

"Amazing stay at the W. Everyone was so friendly and kind. Especially Carolina in the Jairo restaurant, Tatiana in the Beer, Oscar and Lidia at check in. The breakfast was unreal! Delicious, fresh food - a can’t miss. Loved the art work around the hotel. Hope to return in the future!"

"My husband and I stayed for two nights at W Bogotá. As we were arriving late, we arranged an airport transfer via the hotel chat for 38 USD, which was a more reliable choice for a journey at night. On arrival, we were warmly greeted. Check-in was slow, although the staff made an effort to engage with us. They were, however, unable to confirm my spa appointment scheduled for 6am the following morning, as it seemed different parts of the hotel operated on separate systems. Our Titanium status resulted in an upgrade to a corner suite, although in reality it felt more like a corner room. While pleasant, it showed signs of wear and wasn’t particularly functional. The toilet, in particular, was extremely small and awkward to use. Overall, it felt like one of those W Hotels that is style over substance. The following morning, I got up early for my spa appointment, only to discover I had been incorrectly booked with the hairdresser. I had to return an hour and a half later once the therapist became available. On a positive note, the treatment itself was excellent, and I left feeling refreshed and well looked after. We then spent a leisurely morning at breakfast. Service was slow on both days, and our à la carte orders were forgotten each time. That said, once they arrived, the food was very good, particularly the poached eggs with avocado and the arepa with chicken and local sauce. The buffet offered a good selection of fresh bread, local dishes, Western options, as well as fresh fruit and juices. The hotel is located around 45 minutes from the city centre, meaning Ubers are generally required to reach restaurants and museums. The area felt reasonably safe, comparable to other parts of Bogotá. If we return to Bogotá, we would likely try JW Marriott Bogotá instead."
