PB hotel design editorial

Within the walled city of Cartagena de Indias, where Spanish colonial facades line streets unchanged in their proportions since the sixteenth century, the challenge for any contemporary hotel is how to insert modern comfort without reducing the historic fabric to mere backdrop. Movich Hotel Cartagena de Indias answers that tension by treating the old city's vernacular as a starting point rather than a costume — the street elevation presents iron-grille windows, cream-painted stucco, and a wrought-iron balustrade that belong entirely to the neighborhood, while the rooftop reveals a glass-balustrade infinity pool with an unobstructed sightline directly over the baroque domes of the Church of San Pedro Claver toward the Caribbean. Inside, the interiors move toward a warm coastal minimalism that keeps the colonial shell legible without mimicking it. Guest rooms pair cream-toned travertine floors with woven rattan headboards, natural oak furniture, and exposed coral stone accent walls — the rough fossiliferous texture of that local stone, visible in several rooms, grounding the otherwise clean-lined palette in something genuinely regional. The restaurant is perhaps the most considered space: woven rattan pendant lamps cluster across the ceiling in a canopy that echoes local craft traditions, teak armchairs with white cushions and navy stripe runners sit against floor-to-ceiling glazing that frames a lush interior courtyard of palms and tropical planting, the whole composition sitting comfortably between contemporary Colombian hospitality design and the enduring atmosphere of the walled city outside.

Movich Hotel Cartagena De Indias Reviews

"Stayed in Cartagena at hotel, while attending a wedding which was held on the roof top bar. I also ordered room service while attending the hotel, and had breakfast at the restaurant each day too. The location is ideal, steps away from all the major attractions including Cathedral, Bolivar Plaza, shopping and dining. Amenities of the hotel are top tier, including the dining. Bed was very comfortable and bathroom including shower were luxurious."

"If you’re looking for a hotel that combines genuine elegance with an unbeatable location, the Movich delivers on both counts. Situated right in the heart of the historic centre, it’s within easy walking distance of the city’s best sites, restaurants, and the general energy of Cartagena. It’s a perfect base for exploring. The hotel has a sophisticated, boutique feel throughout. It’s elegant, comfortable, and calm . Rooms are a good size, well-appointed and comfortable, with large bathrooms featuring walk-in showers with twin rainforest shower heads. Both air conditioning and an overhead fan are provided, which you’ll appreciate in the Colombian heat, and the WiFi is strong and reliable. The rooftop terrace and pool are a genuine highlight. The views are almost 360 degrees, taking in virtually everything the city has to offer — and the rooftop pool and bar area are well maintained with plenty of seating. It’s the kind of space you’ll find yourself returning to every evening. The staff deserve a special mention. Every interaction is marked by genuine kindness, professionalism, and a real willingness to help — nothing feels forced or routine. This is one of those hotels where the people genuinely make the difference. Food on-site is good — the rooftop bar and restaurant offer great views and solid cooking — though prices lean towards the premium end. The good news is that you’re spoilt for choice, with an excellent selection of restaurants just a few minutes’ walk away, so it’s easy to mix things up. Overall, the Movich is one of the standout places to stay in Cartagena — stylish, well-run, and ideally located. Highly recommended for travellers who want comfort, character, and the old city on their doorstep."
