PB hotel design editorial

Arenal Volcano, one of the most symmetrically formed stratovolcanoes in the Americas, provides the organizing drama for everything at Nayara Gardens — and the property is wise enough to know it. Set within the rainforest corridor outside La Fortuna in Costa Rica's Alajuela province, the resort deploys its private-pool villas across dense tropical grounds, positioning each structure so that the volcano's cone appears framed rather than incidental. The architecture draws from a pan-tropical vocabulary — exposed timber frames with angled bracket joints, deep-pitched roofs, and full-height sliding glass walls — that owes as much to Balinese resort design as to Central American vernacular building. Inside the villas, warm-toned hardwood floors run beneath four-poster beds draped in white mosquito netting, their carved teak headboards and rattan-accented furnishings reinforcing the Southeast Asian inflection that runs through much of Nayara's design language. Botanical print cushions and framed wildlife prints ground the interiors in their actual geography. The main restaurant, visible in the images, is the property's most resolved interior space: a largely open-sided pavilion with a split-bamboo ceiling, dark hardwood floors polished to a lacquer depth, travertine-pedestal tables, and Thonet-derived bentwood cane chairs suspended beneath paper lantern pendants — a composition that carries the feeling of a refined tropical brasserie without the self-consciousness such settings often accumulate. The pool terrace, orange cabana pods vibrant against the jungle canopy, frames Arenal with an almost theatrical precision.

"The experience at Nayara Gardens was great. The room was comfortable and the pool in our casita was great. The restaurants were great, the pricing was comparable to what we found in town. The staff really seemed to be knowledgeable about the area and the animals. We mentioned to one of the golf cart drivers named Michael that we had really been hoping to see sloths but had not been able to during our excursions, so he showed us some sloths around the property which was one of the highlights. We originally planned to visit an external thermal hot spring but the thermal hot springs on property were lovely and felt private because there were not a lot of guests. We planned to only stay for 3 nights but think in hindsight we could've stayed for our entire trip. Most of the excursions were not very far from the hotel and the valet made it simple to keep our rental car there and use it for daily outings."

"Amazing place; our room looked like out of a magazine or a movie, the hotel grounds are immaculate, dreamy, bursting with beauty at every corner, this place is just amazing. The service was also top notch, better than any other 5 starts places we have experienced. We traveled with our 4 yo child and they had a blast, everyone was so welcoming and accommodating. This was a true 5 starts experience all around."

"My wife and I had an incredible experience at Nayara Gardens. It was the best experience. The room and housekeeping was amazing, and we had the best experience with a staff member Greivin Rodriguez. He was always there to help us, smiled, connected with us, shared stories, and truly felt like a personal butler. The frog viewing at night was the best experience with Greivin! We hope to come back to this peaceful, quiet resort."

"One of the very best experiences we've ever had at a hotel - truly exceptional! We didn't want to leave!!! Location: Very close to the Arenal Volcano as well as the city of La Fortuna so conveniently located for activities outside of the property. Atmosphere: Top notch - beautiful property, pristine facilities, and special touches around every corner. Rooms: Spotless (the only accommodation we've ever skipped cleaning ourselves and using our own bedding, etc.). Gorgeous design, sleep finishing touches, while still feeling cozy and comfortable (not sterile). Value: It is a splurge. We only stayed 2 nights (1 full day) and booked on the least expensive dates we could find but it is worth the investment for the level of service, luxury, and relaxation. We would definitely book again! Amenities: We didn't even realize they had hot springs on the property until we got there! We spent quite a lot of time at the hot springs and also using our in-room pool/hot tub. Service: Outstanding! Everyone was so hospitable - we particularly had exceptional experiences with Francisco (Golf Cart Attendant) and Mary Paz (Waitress). We felt so well taken care of and more than just a number! We haven't even been back from our vacation for a week and we've already been recommending this hotel to our friends and family!"

"This hotel is amazing! The rooms/casitas were so clean, luxurious and fabulous! We honestly we spent a lot of time in the room because it made you want to stay. We had a plunge pool and an outdoor shower which we used instead of the bathroom shower because it was just so awesome to be able to take a shower outside with privacy. The resort is so beautiful. We did go on tours and took advantage of seeing the local attractions while we were in La Fortuna but always looked forward to coming back to the resort. There are 3 resorts owned by Nayara and we had access 2 the the other 2 resorts also - their restaurants, pools and activities. We had access to the hot springs in the tented camp and ate dinner in that resort too. The staff were amazing - Jafet, Fiorella, and all the others (there would be an extremely long list) were so helpful and really made our stay wonderful. I would come back to Costa Rice just to stay here again!"
