PB hotel design editorial

Perched on a volcanic ridge above the Papagayo Gulf in Guanacaste, where the dry tropical forest drops sharply toward the Pacific, Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas arranges its villas and public pavilions to exploit one of the most commanding coastal prospects in Costa Rica. The main restaurant and bar structure, visible in the images, draws on an open-sided tropical vernacular — heavy hardwood columns, bamboo-lined ceilings, and a deep-pitched green metal roof — framing the water and the rocky offshore islets as a continuous panorama. The infinity pool, edged in travertine and lined with molded white chaise longues, extends the eye toward the horizon at the precise point where the gulf meets the Nicoya Peninsula's silhouette. The interiors take a different direction from the architecture's regionalism, pulling instead from a global eclecticism that mixes Moroccan carved-wood headboards and pierced geometric screens with Guatemalan kilim runners and hand-hammered silver lamps. Canopied four-poster beds draped in sheer white muslin anchor each villa, set on travertine tile floors warmed by layered textile rugs in coral and saffron. Carved wooden dowry chests sit at the foot of each bed, woven basket accessories and distressed painted furniture adding texture without visual weight. The open-plan connection between bedroom and outdoor shower terrace — folding hardwood and glass doors dissolving the boundary — gives each of the property's eighteen villas the atmosphere of a private compound rather than a conventional hotel room.

"We had the most wonderful time at Casa Chameleon! Our villa was impeccably clean, the views and the private pool were stunning, and all the staff was very kind, happy and helpful! We were hoping to see the Howling Monkeys and Luis went out of his way to help us find them in the town of Las Catalinas! The sunsets at the pool and from Sentido restaurant were breathtaking! We would love to come back and stay here again! Thank you for making our stay so perfect and unforgettable!"

"It's hard to put into words just how magical and fabulous our stay was at Casa Chameleon. From literally the second we arrived, we were treated like royalty in every imaginable way. The staff is so caring and truly goes above and beyond (special shoutout to Cesare, Andy, and Luis at concierge!). Everything is clean and beautiful, and we felt safe the entire time we were there. It's a small resort, about 20 villas that aren't connected. Each villa has its own plunge pool. It's very easy to feel like you're the only ones there. (There is also a shared plunge pool in the main area if you need a change of scenery....though we never tired of the ocean AND sunset views from our Villa 14.) You can walk into the town of Las Catalinas (down and up a VERY steep hill), but the concierge will gladly drive you in the golf cart. It takes literally a minute. I was literally sad to leave Casa Chameleon on the day we headed to the airport. It was the most magical vacation we have ever had, and we hope to be back someday!"

"We had the most incredible experience at Casa Chameleon. Everything from the second we walked onto the resort was perfect. Our room had a plunge pool that was the perfect temperature to use any time of the day. We have never enjoyed a plunge pool more than this one. The view was outstanding as well! We ate at both restaurants and the food was so good. All of the staff was so friendly and helpful. We left the resort for a full day excursion with a knowledgeable guide Marco. Rose picked us up from the airport and was so friendly and enjoyable. I also enjoyed a 4 hand massage in our room which was the best massage I have ever had. We had the most incredible time and can’t wait to come back."

"The property was top notch, but what truly stands out is the service. Anna, Cesar, Luis, Carlos, Nazareth, and Gilbert made sure we were taken care of like we were royalty. The spa services were outstanding, private, and professional. Of course you visit Casa Chameleon for the rooms and views, but that is just part of the experience. Every morning breakfast overlooking the Pacific is an event, and the subset golden hour isn’t to be missed. Las Catalinas is just steps away and everything you need is available without issue. This is a destination not to be missed. We will be back! Pura Vida!"
