PB hotel design editorial

Pressed into a forested hillside above Playa Conchal on Costa Rica's Guanacaste coast, where dry tropical woodland gives way to a pale crescent of crushed shell beach, the W Costa Rica Reserva Conchal sits within one of Central America's more ambitious private resort communities — a 2,300-acre development that has spent two decades calibrating the tension between ecological preservation and resort-scale ambition. The aerial view confirms the balance: dense canopy swallows the property on three sides, with a mangrove-edged estuary marking the boundary between the forest and the Pacific. Interiors carry the W brand's signature high-contrast energy, here translated into materials drawn from the surrounding landscape — warm teak used for the sweeping curved headboard screens that arc around the beds like the ribs of a boat hull, limestone tile floors in a pale honey tone, and upholstery in teal, coral, and saffron that mirrors the chromatic intensity of the coast. The restaurant pavilion is the most architecturally resolved space visible in the images: branching hardwood columns flare outward to support a vaulted bamboo ceiling, pendant lights in amber blown glass suspended between them, the whole structure opening onto uninterrupted jungle and sea views without a wall in sight. The wet-edge pool terrace, framed by teak-slatted pergolas and planted with native grasses, brings the same disciplined informality to the outdoor sequence — teak loungers, stone paving, and the W logotype catching the Guanacaste afternoon light.

"Stayed 1 week with familly. Service was top notch from the moment we arrived. Food was amazing. Beautiful beach , great views and comfy room. Great location in a natural reserve with lots of hiking paths. Kids loved the few activities that were organized . Maybe only place for improvements would be a little more entertainment in the evening. Thanks to all the W staff for such an excellent service!"

"We just returned home after spending seven amazing days at this beautiful resort. We love the W brand and have stayed multiple times at W Vieques (which sadly closed after Hurricane Maria) and W Punta Mita. Our experience at W Reserva Conchal was just as wonderful — but one thing truly set it apart: the service. Everyone we encountered — valet, restaurant staff, housekeeping, and the beach team — was incredibly friendly, warm, and eager to help. The hospitality here is exceptional. We stayed in room 1208 in Tower 1, which is closest to the lobby, Living Room, Cocina de Mercado, the adult pool, and Latitud 10 Norte. The room was spacious, spotless, and had a fantastic view. The bathroom was stunning, and housekeeping did an impeccable job — not a grain of sand left behind. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, and the wildlife made every walk feel special. During our stay we saw gorgeous birds, deer, raccoons, iguanas, and monkeys. It felt like a nature experience wrapped inside a luxury resort. We chose not to go all‑inclusive because we love exploring local cuisine and supporting small businesses. Renting a car made this easy, and we enjoyed fantastic meals in nearby towns: • Brasilito: Mar y Tierra, Patagonia del Mar • Potrero: The Beach House Bar & Restaurant • Flamingo: Surf Box • Tamarindo: Tabu, L’Estanco El Jardín Escondido At the resort, we had breakfast at Cocina de Mercado every morning — the Costa Rican Breakfast, tropical fruit platter, and the coffee were all excellent. We also had two dinners there and celebrated my birthday at Latitud 10 Norte with the 7‑course tasting menu (no beverage pairing). The dishes — especially Sandia, Puerto Viejo, Tamuga — were unforgettable, and the Turrialba cocktail was perfection. One small disappointment: when I made the reservation, I noted that it was my 50th birthday, but no one at the restaurant acknowledged it. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. Tips: • Download the W Costa Rica app — it has maps, menus, and lets you make dinner reservations. • Hydration is easy — there are water coolers everywhere, which I absolutely loved. • The beach is gorgeous — bring a snorkel or goggles so you can spot fish, baby stingrays, sea snakes, and baby moon jellyfish."

"Stayed here for 2 nights on points . Hotel is pretty secluded! Check in was smooth and pretty communicative prior to visit. Appreciative of the cake and sparkling wine to share my gf’s birthday! Breakfast and the schedule of events are nice! Rooms are a bit outdated. Did find that the USBs near the bed were broken. Shared feedback. Nice that the hotel manager personally apologized for that and willing to fix. Though gesture is nice…still felt very laxed..and not very on top of things as I had to reach out on status. Only fixed one of the 2 USB’s. Manager did promise points post stay but still have not received it. Overall would stay here on points…won’t stay here if paying for cash"
