PB hotel design editorial

Few hotels on the Adriatic can claim a site as audacious as this one — a wooded limestone promontory on Dubrovnik's Lapad Peninsula, three sides wrapped by the sea, the old city visible across the water to the east. Hotel Dubrovnik Palace was built into that headland in the 1970s in the monumental modernist manner favored by Yugoslav-era tourism development, its stepped white facade cascading down toward the Adriatic in terraced volumes that echo the karst geography beneath. A substantial renovation in 2005 brought the property forward without erasing its structural confidence, expanding it to 308 rooms and suites across multiple floors, each oriented to capture the uninterrupted sea horizon that defines the experience here. The interiors, refreshed during that renovation, work with warm oak veneers, neutral-toned carpeting, and geometric woven bed throws — a restrained palette that keeps attention on the water beyond the full-height glazed balcony doors. Bedrooms carry an abstract tree-branch mural on the headboard wall, a motif that nods to the dense Aleppo pine forest covering the promontory above. Plum-upholstered armchairs on oak legs add a mid-century inflection without committing fully to period reproduction. On the lower terraces, the pool is carved close enough to the karst edge that raw limestone boulders remain in place at the waterline — a detail that grounds the whole composition in the geology that made this particular headland worth building on at all. The timber-pergola restaurant, set directly above the sea, completes the picture at dusk.

"We have just returned home to the UK after a fantastic stay at the Dubrovnik Palace. Quite possibly the best hotel we have ever stayed in. From the cleanliness of the hotel to the outstanding views from every angle it did not disappoint. We got an amazing deal on our break and we were very very happy overall. Even looked into extending our stay which unfortunately wasn’t possible. 100% recommend and will return."

"THANK YOU for another wonderful stay. We have just returned to the UK following our sixth stay at Hotel Dubrovnik Palace, and it remains the most special place for us. Five stars simply aren't enough. This hotel deserves an award of its own for its outstanding service, breathtaking views, exceptional food and attention to detail. Everything is perfect – from the beautiful outdoor pools to the spa facilities, indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna. It is the ideal place to relax and unwind. Each day we look forward to breakfast and dinner in the Elafiti Restaurant, where the chefs and waiting staff consistently go above and beyond. A special mention must go to Marijana, who greets us every day with the warmest welcome and the biggest smile. She is a true asset to the hotel. There's also the fine dining seafront restaurant "Maslina" where we were treated to the most exquisite meal and sunset views, a truly special and memorable evening indeed. We also loved the themed dining evenings featuring Italian, French and Dalmatian cuisine, accompanied by traditional Croatian music and entertainment. These special touches make every stay memorable. Our suite was incredibly spacious and comfortable, with stunning views across the Adriatic Sea. The robes, slippers and luxury toiletries were a lovely touch and were replenished daily by the excellent housekeeping team. For us, this is our number one hotel for rest and relaxation. Its location is perfect – peaceful and tranquil, yet only a short bus ride from Dubrovnik Old Town. On many mornings, we enjoy walking there along the beautiful coastline. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at the hotel for making our latest visit so special. After six stays, it genuinely feels like coming home. We are already counting down the days until our return later this summer. With sincerest gratitude, especially to Hrvoje Sanje. Nicky & Stuart 🇬🇧"

"My friend and I have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Hotel Dubrovnik Palace. The hotel is situated on the peninsula at the Lapad side of Dubrovnik. Whilst this is not close to the old town and city walls it is easily accessible using the No4 bus which stops and starts at the hotel. All rooms have a sea view which is a delight to wake up to and also watch the small boats and cruise ships sail by in the evening. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping staff. Towels are replaced daily. On arrival you do receive a complimentary bottle of water and the mini bar holds two small bottles of water plus the usual drinks and snacks. It would be nice if the hotel were to replenish larger bottles everyday but I understand the local water is okay to consume (just my preference to have bottled). Buffet Breakfast is served in the Elafiti restaurant, you are greeted by the lovely Maryjana, there was also a lovely gentleman who served us each day, make sure you ask for coffee with milk if your preference is latte’, I also asked for a mint tea which was served in a teapot. The food is varied and sets you up for a day of exploring. There are an abundance of sun beds at both the outside and spa pools, we certainly did not struggle to get a bed during our stay. The management of the hotel are very visible and chat to guests and staff, this has to be a contributing factor to the smooth running of the hotel. Outside the hotel there is lots to discover; walking the City Walls, Lokrum Island via the ferry, a walk around the Lokrum bay or even a short trip to Cavtat which is incredibly peaceful, we got an Uber there and bus back. For tips, buy the Dubrovnik Pass which covers entry into many places plus the City Walls walk and free bus use, we bought the 6 day pass which worked out financially. Overall a great hotel, great stank and lovely location."

"We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Dubrovnik Palace! The property is absolutely beautiful with stunning views of the Adriatic Sea from almost every area of the hotel. Waking up to the ocean views each morning was one of the highlights of our trip. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay, always making us feel well taken care of. The hotel itself is clean, modern, and relaxing, with a great atmosphere for both couples and families. The location is also excellent — peaceful and scenic while still being a quick ride to Old Town Dubrovnik. We truly enjoyed our experience and would definitely stay here again on a future trip to Croatia!"

"This was a lovey hotel to stay in. Our room was lovely, very clean and had a stunning view. The staff were very attentive. The sent a birthday cake up to my room without any request for this. You just had to call for ice or an iron/iron board etc. and it arrived within minutes. The breakfast buffet had a good variety and the staff worked hard to ensure the service was good and tables were cleared. The spa and indoor pool area was gorgeous. My daughter used the hairdresser, who made a great job of her hair. There were staff at hand to help you book some wonderful trips ( would recommend Bosnia) and there was a bus stop just outside the hotel to take you into the old town. We would recommend buying a pass if you’re there for a few days or more. Just watch for the locals who push you out of the way to get on before you. Dubrovnik was lovely to see however it was very over priced compared to other areas in Europe and I found many of the locals rude, considering tourism is their main source of income. That would put me off going back again."
