PB hotel design editorial

Facing Hvar's ancient main square — one of the largest and oldest piazzas in the Adriatic, flanked by a Venetian loggia whose white limestone arcades have defined the town's civic life since the sixteenth century — Palace Elisabeth Hvar Heritage Hotel was built directly into this layered urban fabric, the loggia's ornate colonnade forming part of the ground floor of the property itself. The building dates to the late nineteenth century, constructed during the Habsburg era when Hvar was developing as one of the Dalmatian coast's favored resort destinations, and its four stories of dressed limestone sit in confident conversation with the medieval clocktower immediately to the right. The interiors move between a restrained Central European palatial register and something warmer and more Mediterranean in character. Guestrooms deploy arched headboard niches framing hand-painted tropical murals in sand and blush tones, with amber velvet occasional chairs introducing color against ivory plasterwork and soft grey carpet; suites push further with freestanding copper roll-top baths positioned against ochre-washed walls decorated with painted fan motifs. The dining room runs to powder-blue linen upholstery, crystal chandeliers, and antique-mirrored panels backed by panoramic grisaille wallcoverings in an earthy sepia palette. Above it all, the terrace restaurant looks directly out over Hvar's harbor, its ironwork pergola hung with Venetian-style lanterns beneath a tented canopy — an arrangement that places dinner inside one of the most quietly magnificent port views on the Dalmatian coast.

"From start to finish, a wonderful stay. Pros: Friendly reception at the ferry dock- our ferry docked at the very end so walked midway to find the hotel’s porter and trolley. Very short walk to the lovely hotel that is at the end of the dock with easy entrance from street level. Check in was a breeze although think it must be quite a wait during high season- only two reception desks and one concierge. Rooms are lovely, spacious, immaculate with an amazing view of the marina (quiet in October) and the best bed ever (perfectly firm). Lovely decor and colors throughout the hotel - very inviting with just enough decadence without being gaudy. The breakfast is table service which is always nice (not a buffet fan in general) with the most over-the-top truffled egg and perfectly crisp pancetta I’ve ever had (need statin). There are also samples of Croatian desserts and cookies to try. Location is great off season but may be noisy during peak- the old town is at your front/back door. There’s also an outdoor market and supermarket less than a 5 min walk away at the car park - very convenient should you need anything the hotel does not offer (I had no needs but always fun to browse markets when abroad). The fridge (no minibar) has complimentary water and soda and juice restocked whenever needed, a Nespresso machine. Little gifts left on your bed with turndown- Always a nice touch. The left Henessey one night - would have loved rakija. Service is top notch. Cons: Can’t think of anything major that would make me think twice about staying here. A couple of bleach stains on a few hand towels I never used. The room does not have a minibar, iron or kettle but they will bring you whatever you need promptly. The hotel bar does not offer a bar food menu which would have been convenient but there are plenty of options outside your door! It has been a while since I’ve reviewed a hotel 5/5 but it truly was. The best hotel of our trip."

"This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The attention to detail is incredible, from the night time turndown service to the impeccable manners of all the staff, Palace Elisabeth did not disappoint. We stayed here 2 nights on our honeymoon and we felt so looked after. This hotel is sheer luxury and we will definitely be back!"
