PB hotel design editorial

Facing Hvar's ancient main square — one of the largest and oldest piazzas in the Adriatic, flanked by a Venetian loggia whose white limestone arcades have defined the town's civic life since the sixteenth century — Palace Elisabeth Hvar Heritage Hotel was built directly into this layered urban fabric, the loggia's ornate colonnade forming part of the ground floor of the property itself. The building dates to the late nineteenth century, constructed during the Habsburg era when Hvar was developing as one of the Dalmatian coast's favored resort destinations, and its four stories of dressed limestone sit in confident conversation with the medieval clocktower immediately to the right. The interiors move between a restrained Central European palatial register and something warmer and more Mediterranean in character. Guestrooms deploy arched headboard niches framing hand-painted tropical murals in sand and blush tones, with amber velvet occasional chairs introducing color against ivory plasterwork and soft grey carpet; suites push further with freestanding copper roll-top baths positioned against ochre-washed walls decorated with painted fan motifs. The dining room runs to powder-blue linen upholstery, crystal chandeliers, and antique-mirrored panels backed by panoramic grisaille wallcoverings in an earthy sepia palette. Above it all, the terrace restaurant looks directly out over Hvar's harbor, its ironwork pergola hung with Venetian-style lanterns beneath a tented canopy — an arrangement that places dinner inside one of the most quietly magnificent port views on the Dalmatian coast.

"A beautiful hotel in the most perfect location. The staff are all fabulous, and a special mention for Jelena, the front of house at the restaurant, who always welcomes guests warmly."

"The staff create the experience at Palace Elizabeth. From arrival, employees like Nika, Angela, Nikolina, Zdravko, and Valentina truly elevated the entirety of our stay. I wish I had more time, but I definitely intend to return because of them. Although the hotel staff was superlative, I cannot say the same about my interactions with the Palace Elisabeth Front Office Manager. Our stay was unfortunately overshadowed by the shrewd and unwelcoming interactions I had with management in affairs related to the stay itself. A small blemish on an otherwise perfect stay and the only reason that this does not deserve five stars."

"Trip # 4 to Palace Elisabeth just keeps getting better. The breakfast, the spa, the rooms, and the amazing attention to detail from the staff is mesmerizing. I have to mention the bell staff..... I wish I knew the gentleman's name ( he's been there at least since 2021), but his kindness, and overall competency stands worlds apart from so many other properties. You really treat your guests like royalty. Katja is also a gem. She's so gifted in the way she welcomes us and makes us feel at home......a palace of a home :). Her smile alone sets the tone for a magical stay. Katja also remembered us even know it's been a few years. One of the highlights of coming here is the interaction we have with all the staff. Keep doing what your doing !! We'll be back for # 5"

"We went here with my parents and my children, so a large family group with many age groups. Everyone loved the hotel, the service and the rooms. The location is perfect - walking distance from all the great things in Hvar, and right in front of the marina, where we arrived with our boat."

"We are just heading away on the catamaran back to Split having spent a fantastic few days on Hvar, with the last couple of nights at this beautiful hotel. Understated elegance, immaculate and attentive and kind staff throughout the hotel. The rooms, while not large, had plenty of space, a fantastic port view and as with everything we’re beautifully decorated. There is a really nice spa, deck (overlooking the bustling Hvar centre) and indoor into outdoor pool. It really was an oasis of calm right in the middle of a busy Hvar centre. We didn’t eat dinner at San Marco but the breakfast was excellent. Overall an absolute 5/5, more for adults than families with small kids (the Amfora is better for that). We will be back!"
