PB hotel design editorial

Terraced into a pine-forested promontory above the Adriatic, with the medieval campanile of Rovinj's old town framed in every seaward window, the Grand Park Hotel Rovinj was designed by 3LHD, the Zagreb-based practice whose work has consistently argued that contemporary Croatian architecture need not apologize for its ambitions. Completed in 2019, the 209-room property steps down toward the water in broad horizontal bands — limestone-clad balconies cantilevering over a landscaped promenade, the whole composition reading like a piece of Istrian topography that has been slowly formalized rather than imposed on its site. The massing is confident without being aggressive, the pine forest absorbed into the building's edges so that from the water the structure and its landscape feel continuous. Interiors by Studio Numen carry a warm restraint that suits the location well — oak headboards with dark bronze trim, polished concrete floors softened by natural jute rugs, floor-to-ceiling glazing that turns every room into a framed view of the bay. The restaurant, visible in the images as a full-height glass pavilion, combines slatted timber ceiling panels with a sculptural accent wall bearing ceramic ornaments in terracotta and ochre, the old town silhouette hanging in the background like a painting no designer could have commissioned. At the infinity pool terrace, teak loungers and rattan lanterns acknowledge the Adriatic resort tradition without sliding into cliché — a balance 3LHD maintains throughout with considerable discipline.

Grand Park Hotel Rovinj Reviews

"This hotel is rated as being in the top 50 hotels of the world - don’t get me wrong visually it’s stunning & set in a lovely place with nice grounds & a view of the marina and Rovinj. I’ll detail the pluses & minuses & then you can decide if you want to part with you hard earned cash, personally I wish we’d have stayed somewhere cheaper. Plus + the pool area is great with no issues about getting a lounger & the service there is done by QR code at your lounger & is efficient Breakfast is great, a good selection & served til 12pm You can use the restaurants and beaches of the other hotels in the group & put costs on your room - you can request a buggy to take you Beds are comfy Serving staff were polite and friendly Great setting Good choice of restaurants Minus - At no point did I ever feel special - a lot of the reception staff were coolly aloof No turn down service until I asked specifically- it’s a 5 star hotel!! You get one still & one sparking water per day then have to pay - we spent so much money on water! No complimentary water from reception for journeys or trips out The concierge service was poor - staff didn’t know what was available and were slow to respond. The hotel app was out of date and had many inaccuracies for activities and trips - concierges had no knowledge of half the stuff on there Activities got booked up but there app wasn’t working properly so it would say there was availability when there wasn’t. Room design was all style over substance - you couldn’t hang a dress in the wardrobe as they weren’t designed for dresses!! A lack of drawers as well Bathroom sink was huge but had no space for toiletries on one side which when there’s two of you using it is really irritating. Welcome snack - an apple and a hard biscuit!! Seriously! The apple attracted fruit flies that were in our room all week. There was a Polaroid camera in the room that we assumed you could use but there was no film in it and no explanation as to how or where you get the film from! When we arrived there were gardeners in the balcony pruning g die of the foliage - they sat there chatting for aver an hour doing no work - oblivious to the fact we were in our room! Not a good look for a prestige hotel - the view of the marina was almost totally obscured by plants but this was a design fault more than anything. General inconsistency of service that was my biggest issue in a hotel of this calibre. The corridors where the rooms are so stark and dark and make you feel like you are in a dystopian film! Some people love it though, I just found it depressing! All in all I just felt ambivalent towards the hotel after a weeks stay which is how I felt I was treated by a lot of the staff. A family of 4 staying in the family connecting rooms pay £10k for bed and breakfast which is a lot of money. I didn’t want to rate it as average as it isn’t but it’s not excellent either."

"Our stay at Grand Park Hotel was amazing. The service was exceptional, and every member of the staff made us feel truly welcome. The hotel is beautiful, with fantastic green spaces and wonderful walking paths that make it perfect for relaxing. We had a great experience and would definitely stay here again! ( for the third time)"

"The hotel is beautiful and most of the staff are very good. Service at breakfast was very disappointing, on two occasions we did not have a dedicated server and our orders were never placed with the kitchen. One waitress told us we ordered with the wrong person as he was a new server and didn't know the procedure. How in the world would we have known that? For this price point, I have higher expectations, which I think is reasonable. Out of four mornings, one waitress was great, the rest not so much."
