PB hotel design editorial

Terraced into a pine-forested promontory above the Adriatic, with the medieval campanile of Rovinj's old town framed in every seaward window, the Grand Park Hotel Rovinj was designed by 3LHD, the Zagreb-based practice whose work has consistently argued that contemporary Croatian architecture need not apologize for its ambitions. Completed in 2019, the 209-room property steps down toward the water in broad horizontal bands — limestone-clad balconies cantilevering over a landscaped promenade, the whole composition reading like a piece of Istrian topography that has been slowly formalized rather than imposed on its site. The massing is confident without being aggressive, the pine forest absorbed into the building's edges so that from the water the structure and its landscape feel continuous. Interiors by Studio Numen carry a warm restraint that suits the location well — oak headboards with dark bronze trim, polished concrete floors softened by natural jute rugs, floor-to-ceiling glazing that turns every room into a framed view of the bay. The restaurant, visible in the images as a full-height glass pavilion, combines slatted timber ceiling panels with a sculptural accent wall bearing ceramic ornaments in terracotta and ochre, the old town silhouette hanging in the background like a painting no designer could have commissioned. At the infinity pool terrace, teak loungers and rattan lanterns acknowledge the Adriatic resort tradition without sliding into cliché — a balance 3LHD maintains throughout with considerable discipline.

"We had high expectations of this hotel considering the price and it exceeded all of them. We looked at lots of pictures before arriving but the view from the lobby when you step into the hotel is spectacular. Our room was ready early, which was appreciated after a long morning of travelling. We had a forest view, although we could see the sea too. Rooms were very comfortable and clean, and the bathroom was fantastic. We had enough space to relax and there was no noise from the corridor or other rooms. The room was cleaned to a very high standard and there was a turn down service too. The housekeeping staff on our floor (3) were always very friendly and lovely to interact with. The pool areas were very well kept and relaxing. And obviously the view is the best! Staff were very friendly and worked hard throughout the day. They do enforce the no reserving loungers rule, but it was made very clear and we saw staff check multiple times before removing towels and belongings. It could be busy at times but we always found somewhere to sit. We found the pool area very quiet after 7pm. We visited the spa multiple times, which was always very quiet and the outside space felt very peaceful and private. Breakfast was fantastic. Great selection on the buffet and options to order. We always ate inside, outside looked busy, yet because of the design of the restaurant we always had a great view. We also ate at Cap Aureo, which I’ll review separately, but in short was another great experience. We didn’t use the beach or visit the island, as we felt the hotel had enough to offer and was close enough to forest walks and the old town to fill our days. Overall, a fantastic stay. Absolutely worth the cost when you can relax peacefully in luxury. The building itself is blended nicely into the trees and decorated very well, but it’s the staff here who make the hotel experience happen."

"Staying at Grand Park Hotel Rovinj is an unforgettable experience. Since you get into in the lobby, you are attracted by the impressive architecture of the hotel. The staff is the most friendly and helpful I have ever come across. The views that you get from the lobby, the restaurants, the pool and the rooms of Rovinj are breathtaking. You just want to stay there and do nothing else but admire the surroundings. But theres more: you get free access to Mulini Beach Lido just 5 minutes away from the hotel, a beautiful place to spend the day and get a nice bath in the clean waters of the adriatic sea. The woods that surround the hotel are beautiful and you can get a bike for free at the hotel to ride along the coast of this beautiful part of Croatia. The breakfast is really good with lots of good options. The price of the room might be high, but having the comfortable Lido next to the hotel and the free bikes are additions that pay the price at large. As I said, this is more than a hotel, this is an unforgettable experience worth the price. I would definitely come back again and stay in this spectacular hotel."

"A beautiful hotel in every way. From the moment you enter and are greeted by warm and welcoming staff until departure. Every person on staff we encountered were lovely and helpful and friendly. The room itself was beautiful with floor to ceiling windows leading onto a deck and with a view of Rovinj and the harbor. It was large and well appointed with every amenity imaginable. The bathroom as well was large with plenty of counter space for all of our products, a large tub and large separate shower with rain forest shower head as well as hand held. The pools and spa facilities were equally perfect!! And the breakfast buffet and menu was fresh, healthy, delicious. There was a separate gluten free and vegan room which made me exceedingly happy!! We loved every minute. A perfect three night stay!"

"Came here for a week to celebrate a milestone birthday. Wanted somewhere that felt special and celebratory and Grand Park certainly ticked all those boxes! From the minute you arrive to the jaw dropping views over Rovinj from the reception area, to the minute you leave, everything is magical about this hotel. The rooms are perhaps a bit spartan looking at first glance but they are supremely comfortable and everything is about that view! We so enjoyed having morning coffee or a glass of wine on our balcony, enjoying the different light on the fairytale image of Rovinj. Beds and pillows were so comfortable, we both slept so well. The bathroom was big with a huge shower, nice toiletries and plenty of fresh fluffy towels. Powerful hairdryer too, which is always appreciated. Breakfast was amazing, so much choice, either buffet or cooked to order. We preferred the quieter side away from the buffet area but there was always plenty of space and service was immaculate. The top level pool area was fabulous, plenty of sunbeds , plenty of towels, fresh water and fruit available & those amazing views! The indoor/outdoor pool set up near the spa area was great for the odd times when the weather was less warm. We ate at the hotel on our first evening at Laurel & Berry, on the terrace. Food was lovely but there is so much choice of great restaurants the short stroll away into Rovinj, that we ate around the rest of the week. Finally, every member of the hotel team was brilliant. The concierge service, spot on too. We certainly felt that we made the right choice in celebrating my special birthday here. Memorable!"
