Two Austro-Hungarian villas rising from the pine-fringed shore of Čikat Bay carry within their terracotta rooflines and ochre rendered facades the entire story of Lošinj as a Habsburg resort destination — a history that the Boutique Hotel Alhambra has worked carefully to preserve while threading contemporary comfort through both the original nineteenth-century fabric and a sensitively scaled modern wing. The property sits on Mali Lošinj's western shore, where the island's famous pine forests — planted in the 1800s on medical advice, the trees credited with therapeutic air quality — press right to the water's edge and frame views across the Adriatic toward the Kvarner archipelago. The renovation, completed in the 2010s under the Jadranka group's stewardship, kept the Belle Époque villa exteriors intact while delivering thoroughly modern interiors: rooms finished in walnut-toned joinery, pale wool carpeting, and floor-to-ceiling glazed doors opening onto balconies canopied by the existing pine canopy. The restaurant anchors itself in veined honey-toned marble panels backlit along the walls, herringbone oak parquet underfoot, and a curved glazed perimeter that dissolves the boundary between dining room and terrace garden.
