PB hotel design editorial

Vineyard rows descending to the Adriatic — with the Pelješac peninsula's limestone hills at the back and the scattered Korčula archipelago ahead — give Villa Korta Katarina & Winery one of the most precisely framed settings on the Dalmatian coast. The property, developed by American wine entrepreneur Mike Grgich's extended family and drawing on the winemaking heritage of the Grgić Vina estate, combines a working winery with a boutique hotel of around fifteen rooms spread across a five-storey stone-clad tower and a lower arcaded wing whose barrel-vaulted dining room carries the atmosphere of a Romanesque chapel — exposed brick voussoirs, wrought-iron chandelier rings, and stone-flagged floors that place the space in unmistakable dialogue with Dalmatian ecclesiastical architecture. The guest rooms navigate a tension between European grand-hotel convention and something more personal. One category wraps walls entirely in blue-grey toile de Jouy, pairing the pastoral print with striped drapery and a gilt-framed dressing mirror; another deploys a heavily turned dark-walnut four-poster, warm sand-toned walls, and a botanical throw over white bedding — both approaches sharing dark-stained oak floors, crystal flush-mount fittings, and iron-railed balconies open to the Adriatic. Below the main building, a limestone-terraced pool platform steps down to the waterline, lit at dusk in a geometry of warm uplighters against pale Dalmatian stone, the whole composition grounded as much in the peninsula's vernacular building culture as in the winemaking tradition that gave the estate its reason to exist.

Villa Korta Katarina & Winery Reviews

"I visited Villa Korta Katarina last weekend, and I have to say, it exceeded all expectations. To be completely honest, based on the website, I had a different picture in mind. However, the moment Tea and Ana, our wonderful hosts, shared the story behind the villa, everything fell perfectly into place. The design is simply beautiful, elegant, refined, yet incredibly warm and cosy. You can truly feel the legacy and vision of the owners throughout the property. With only 7 suites, it offers a level of privacy and intimacy that is rare, even in luxury hospitality. It’s a proper ultra-luxury experience, but without any stiffness, very personal, very welcoming. What truly elevates the experience is the team. Tea and Ana were always present, attentive, and genuinely kind, striking that perfect balance between professionalism and warmth. Denis, the restaurant manager, is clearly passionate about gastronomy and wine, his storytelling around the winery and its philosophy added so much depth to the experience. We enjoyed a marvelous dinner paired with a wine degustation (special mention to our server Toni, attentive, genuinely warm, and effortlessly professional, he made the entire experience even more memorable), which really showcased where it all began, the wines. Pošip American and Plavac Mali were outstanding and definitely stood out. As a hospitality professional with more than 20 years of experience, I can confidently say that this is a property Croatia should be very proud of. We also had the chance to see their sister property, Hotel Katarina, equally impressive and designed by the same architect. The two complement each other beautifully, offering different price points while maintaining a consistent design language and quality. I sincerely hope Villa Korta Katarina continues to attract the kind of travelers who appreciate such attention to detail, authenticity, and passion, especially given its perfect location, slightly off the beaten path. Congratulations to the entire team, bravo! Suite 101 was my personal favorite 🤩"

"This review is for our stay at the Villa. I loved the property a lot — it is truly stunning. I loved just looking at the interior design and outdoor surroundings. The amenities are also wonderful, and the housekeeping was particularly great. Lots of little details that made it feel like a luxurious stay. I would definitely go back. Areas for improvement: - The food is unfortunately not great :(. I really hate to say it because the chef is very nice and I’m sure he has lots of potential, but we didn’t really enjoy many of our meals (except the salads, which were great). There is another chef who was out on maternity leave but who has prepared food for us before at the winery, and she is absolutely incredible. - The staff is super nice but maybe a little formal. - The price is very high, even in the off season. To make it feel like better value, I would recommend improving the quality of the food and considering making one of the least expensive reds and whites included (rather than ~15 euros a glass)."
