PB hotel design editorial

Baroque stucco cartouches, cherub-flanked gateway arches, and the kind of cream-rendered neo-baroque facade that Prague's Na Příkopě and surrounding New Town streets accumulated through the late nineteenth century — this is the building that Century Old Town Prague, part of Accor's MGallery collection, inhabits on Na Poříčí. The structure's ornamental exterior, with its layered pilasters and arched portal guarded by stone putti, has been preserved as found, while the interiors were comprehensively reimagined to house 174 rooms across multiple floors. The design tension the project navigates is one familiar to Central European adaptive reuse: how to honour a building whose exterior vocabulary is emphatically historicist while delivering interiors that feel contemporary rather than costumed. The answer found inside leans toward a saturated, jewel-toned modernity. The lobby lounge clusters deep forest-green velvet armchairs — slim brass-framed legs, a silhouette somewhere between 1950s Italian and current Parisian hotel — beneath branching geometric brass chandeliers, walls lined with bookshelves and a large-scale abstract canvas anchoring the far end. Guest rooms split between two registers: standard rooms in navy-blue patterned carpet and amber velvet curtains with globe sconces, and suites rendered in high-contrast charcoal lacquer with backlit cream-channelled headboards and chevron-woven floor coverings. The restaurant, fitted beneath a full glass roof, fills with diffused Prague sky and strings woven rattan pendants across the steel grid above black-and-white geometric tile floors — lighter in atmosphere than the rooms below, and deliberately so.

"I know many people have already mentioned the great location of this hotel, so I'm going to skip it (when I visited, it's been invariably in the Old Town). What I really want to mention however - because I was literally amazed by it - is the top class service and professional approach from all the staff. It was almost like another level of hospitality. When I asked for a blanket at the reception, the lovely lady from room service brought it to me within 5 minutes. It was efficient, but at the same time they were all so kind! If I had to point one thing to improve would be the breakfast: please add a bit more vegetrian food. I can't say I was hungry, but it would be nice to have a little more choice. By the way, the dining room is gorgeous! I hope to come back again soon."

"This was my second stay at the Century Old Town Prague – MGallery Collection, and returning felt like revisiting an old favourite. The location remains one of its greatest strengths. Tucked just on the edge of Prague’s Old Town, you’re within easy walking distance of the city’s main highlights while still enjoying a slightly calmer setting. It strikes that perfect balance between convenience and composure. The conveyor having the Palladium next door is also an asset. The building itself carries genuine character. There’s a quiet elegance to the public spaces with high ceilings, rich tones and a sense of history without feeling stuffy. The welcome was warm and professional, exactly what you would expect and want. On this visit, I stayed in a Junior Suite which is perfect. The suite offered a separate seating area, generous proportions and a more relaxed layout overall. It felt less like a hotel room and more like a refined city residence. The decor blends classic and contemporary touches, with quality furnishings and thoughtful lighting throughout. The bathroom was well appointed, spacious and finished to a high standard. Everything felt solid and well maintained. The bed was extremely comfortable, with quality linens and excellent soundproofing ensuring a restful night despite the central location. It had the usual expected amenities of coffee facilities, iron, robe and so on. Breakfast deserves its own mention. It was genuinely wonderful. A wide and beautifully presented selection of hot and cold options, fresh pastries, fruit, local touches and excellent coffee. A chef freshly prepares eggs your way and the rest of the staff are so attentive. It’s the kind of breakfast that makes you slow down rather than rush out the door. Service throughout the stay was attentive without being intrusive. Staff were polished, helpful and clearly take pride in the property. Overall, Century Old Town Prague continues to deliver understated luxury in a superb location. Returning confirmed what I felt the first time, this is a hotel with real character, luxury and customer service at it's heart. So good I already booked a return."

"A first-rate experience yet again at this hotel. Checked in swiftly and courteously at a 7. p.m. arrival. Was a little concerned as I'd only upgraded to an executive room a couple of days earlier through Jet.2 but needn't have worried, the appropriate room had been allocated. ( only niggle with that was contacting the hotel direct to seek the upgrade would have cost twice what they quote on the Accor website, hence going back to Jet2) This was a trip to celebrate my wife's birthday and on the day a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine and a plate of macarons/ fruit were waiting in the room upon our return. The bedroom was spotlessly clean. Spacious and being under the umbrella of 'Sofitel' the bedding and especially the pillows are to die for. The staff were all friendly, super efficient and helpful. Breakfasts here are excellent with a fine selection of choices. On a four day break it would be easy to have something different every day. Waiting staff in the restaurant at breakfast can't be faulted, always looking to be of assistance and totally efficient. Special mention here to Moussa whom I knew from previous visits, the epitome of efficiency, affable and a joy to talk to. Just, the young lady from Brazil was ever eager to assist and always 'there' when needed. The lovely Ida came up with an impromptu 'birthday cake' on the day as my wife was opening her cards at breakfast. In all, I can't fault the Century Old Town and it's our go-to hotel in Prague. I feel it offers excellent service and value for money. Ideally situated and is simply a great place to stay. We'll be back"

"Excellent hotel in a great location. 5 mins walk to the old town and 2 mins walk to a huge shopping centre. Interior of the hotel is lovely, big rooms with huge beds! Very quiet if you get a courtyard room on a high floor. Breakfast was first class with a big choice. The best part of breakfast though was the wonderful service from one of the waiters there, sorry I didn’t catch her name but she is originally from Brazil. She should be your employee of the year! She made our stay so special, going above and beyond and really looked after us, including recommending your fabulous banana and pancake dish for breakfast. A huge thank you to her for making our stay in the hotel and our trip to your lovely city so special."
