PB hotel design editorial

For nearly a century, the Grand Hotel Evropa stood on Wenceslas Square as one of Prague's most recognizable Art Nouveau facades — gilded, tiled, and unmistakably itself — while quietly falling into disrepair behind its ornamental ironwork. The building that now houses W Prague, which arrived in 2024 following almost a decade of painstaking restoration, required three architectural practices to bring it back: Chapman Taylor handled the heritage restoration and served as architect of record, Benoy designed the new elliptical wing, and DAM.architekti contributed to the new-build concept. The original 1903–1905 structure, designed by Bedřich Bendelmayer and Alois Dryák, remains a protected monument, and at night its illuminated facade — lettered in neon, crowned in gilt — still commands the square as it always has. Inside, the 161 rooms and suites spread across the restored seven-story heritage building and a new nine-story wing, with AvroKO leading the key public spaces and premium suites and Chapman Taylor taking the spa and standard guestrooms. AvroKO drew the design concept from Bohemian glassmaking, alchemy, and the dreamlike botanical illustrations of Alphonse Mucha — legible in the circular tinted-mirror headboards that scatter colour like stained glass, the gold-leaf bar ceiling where pleated mushroom columns bloom upward, and the verde marble vanities that anchor the premium suites in something heavier and older than the rest. The rooftop terrace, dressed in terracotta scallop tiles and tropical abundance, feels like a greenhouse escaped to the rooftops.

About

As the social soul of the city, W Prague breathes life into the former and famed Grand Hotel Evropa. This stunning Art Nouveau building, once a witness to defining historical moments and a boundary-pusher in the 1900s, now returns to do so again in true W fashion. Throughout the 161 luxurious suites and guest rooms at this hotel in the center of Prague, bold and whimsical designs adorned with golden details evoke the essence of Alchemy. The secret ingredient? An expansive culinary journey — a masterclass in contrasting flavors and genres — paired with restorative rituals at our AWAY Spa, where water, light, and modern indulgence create a sanctuary beneath the city’s rhythm. Where nature meets modernity and reality mingles with fantasy, our luxury hotel in Prague becomes a magnet for moments worth remembering. This is the comeback of a legacy; this is history in the remaking.

"The W Prague has officially become my new favorite hotel in Europe. Traveled with my family and first time to Prague. From the moment I arrived, I knew this was going to be a special stay. A heartfelt thank you to Denisa and the entire concierge team, whose service went above and beyond in every way. They were warm, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely committed to making every moment of our visit memorable. Whether it was recommendations, reservations, or thoughtful personal touches, their hospitality was truly world-class and elevated our entire experience. The hotel itself is breathtaking beautiful with the design and architecture. Housed within the beautifully restored historic Grand Hotel Evropa, the stunning Art Nouveau architecture blends seamlessly with bold contemporary design. Every space feels like a work of art—from the spectacular lobby to the beautifully designed guest rooms. If you appreciate exceptional interior design and architecture, you’ll be amazed. The W Prague reopened in March 2025 after an extensive restoration, and it is absolutely spectacular. The spa was spectacular! Rooftop bar and restaurant had incredible views of the city. Its location on Wenceslas Square is perfect location but under construction. I can’t wait to return, and I wholeheartedly recommend the W Prague to anyone visiting one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. This is, without a doubt, my new favorite hotel in Europe."

"What a wonderful experience at W Prague! Aside from the beautiful design, elegant atmosphere, and delicious food, what truly stood out was the exceptional hospitality of the team. From the moment I arrived for breakfast, Ruslana welcomed me with a warm smile that made me feel instantly at home. Julie was amazing, serving with genuine enthusiasm and care, while Kylie’s attentiveness, friendliness, and leadership truly stood out. You can clearly see how her positive energy inspires the entire team to deliver such great service. It was my first time at W Prague, but definitely not my last. Thank you to this amazing team. I look forward to coming back again!"

"Prague is a cultural delight to experience, but what makes any trip better is a well designed and operated hotel that enhances the trip. After staying at many W properties, there are expectations and surprises that make each special in their own way. The lack of cookie cutter design allows for an environment that begs for discovery. This new location raises the bar on every level. The mix of the heritage and modern towers each offer an experience like no other. The thoughtful high quality design is only matched by the attentiveness and professionalism of the multilingual staff. Having a passionate eye for interiors, I was able to experience rooms in both towers, each boasting a level of design and quality in construction, millwork, marble and automation at the highest of tiers. If anything could trump the rooms, it is the public spaces. I am not one that regularly indulges in hotel restaurants and bars but it is worthwhile at the W Prague. The main restaurant with its original restored millwork doesn’t disappoint whether for breakfast or when it converts to Beefbar for dinner. Some excellent takeaways are the pistachio cream and sour cherry pancakes to the excellent steaks and thoughtful appetizers and art worthy desserts. For a more casual experience in the new tower light bites and great drinks in an eye candy setting sprawl the length of the lower level. I only wish we visited in the summer when the patio opens. Last but not least Minus 1 on the lower level has the vibe of an updated speakeasy split into two distinct rooms. A must mention is the spa. While this is not something I typically would frequent, my W insider graciously booked a treatment for my wife. When I went down with her, I quickly changed into my swimsuit to experience a sensory delight in every way. Thoughtfully designed the guest access amenities include a dark, dim and sleek plunge pool, hot tub, steam and dry saunas and a very interesting « walk though the seasons » from rain to heat, snow and ice. What makes all of this work is the professionalism and attentiveness of the team. While I don’t remember everyone’s names, they always remembered mine. From the W insiders like Alvaro (who diligently answered my every question even while not working), to the doormen, front desk, restaurant and housekeeping teams. As beautiful as the property is, it would not be the same without each of them. This is a true 5-star experience for all the senses and worth the trip to Prague to experience."

"We stayed at the W Prague for three nights. The hotel is located in an historic building, formerly the Grand Hotel Europa. Our room was spacious and well appointed. As a Titanium Bonvoy member, we receive complimentary breakfast buffet, which had several delicious selections. The hotel is well located on Wenceslas Square. It’s an easy train ride from the airport and close to the sites you want to see and neighborhoods you want to enjoy. The bellmen and desk clerks were welcoming and warm. The jacuzzi in the spa was excellent!"
