PB hotel design editorial

Directly across from the gardens of Tivoli, a sandstone neoclassical palace that once served as the Danish Royal Academy of Music gives Nobis Hotel Copenhagen its architectural authority — the carved lion's head above the arched entry portal, the rusticated base, the symmetrical grid of gridded sash windows reading as civic grandeur from the street. The building dates to 1869 and was converted by Swedish studio Wingårdhs, who opened the hotel in 2016 across 77 rooms spread over the original structure's generous floor plates. The interior conversion holds a productive tension between the envelope's nineteenth-century formality and a deliberately contemporary Nordic sensibility. In the lobby, a monolithic reception desk in veined grey marble sits against warm birch-panelled walls beneath a run of bare filament bulbs — the effect closer to a well-appointed Scandinavian cultural institution than a conventional hotel arrival sequence. Guestrooms are furnished with blackened-steel four-poster beds, tan leather bench seats, and Hay's Outline sofa in amber — the parquet herringbone floors and Calder-esque mobile pendants threading mid-century references through an otherwise spare palette of slate blue and warm grey. The restaurant, fitted into what appears to be a rear courtyard volume with skylights and floor-to-ceiling steel-framed glazing, deploys bleached oak dining chairs, cream banquette seating, and amber pendant lanterns in a room where Nordic daylight does most of the decorative work.

"We stayed a total of 7 nights before and after our trip to Greenland. Our stay at Nobis was actually one of the highlights of our Copenhagen trip. We had a normal superior room which was compact but functional and good for two people - the super high ceiling made the room feel much more spacious. Slippers, bathrobes, and bottled water were provided. You could just call the front desk if you run out of drinking water. There was also turndown service every evening, where housekeeping would place delicious chocolates on the bed. On to the breakfast - we really loved the breakfast and despite having the same spread for so many days, we never got sick of it. It's not a huge spread at all, but they have everything you need and it's all fresh and good quality produce. There are two different flavours of yoghurt and you can add all the toppings you want, freshly squeezed juices (more than 4 types),cold cuts, cheese, salmon, pancakes, pastries, fruits etc. You can also order eggs cooked any way. Now on the location. It's very convenient as a base and only a few minutes' walk to CPH Central Station. There's a small grocery store just next to the hotel, and you are just one block away from Tivoli. It's located in a safe and quiet area, which we liked. A shout-out to Eric (I hope we got his name right) at the concierge who made our stay extra lovely."

"We are currently staying at the Nobis hotel. As frequent travellers we stayed in many 5 star hotels but this hotel will for sure not become a favorite one. This is my first negative feedback since many years.. The rooms are quite nice, Scandinavian sober but okay. The rain shower is terrible, hardly any water pressure. The thin duvet does not cover the whole width of the bed so the first night we were so cold , we hardly slept and asked for a second one duvet. The hallway is full of laundry trolleys all day so you can hardly reach your room and it looks so sloppy and unprofessional. The breakfast buffet was sober as well, no special hot menu : omelets, eggs benedict etc , not a great service, you had to make your own tea and get your hot water from a thermos.. The price was almost 80 euro’s for the 2 of us. Just a 1 morning experience.. renting bikes is also extremely expensive 35 euro per bike per day where as everywhere in the city you can rent a bike for half price… So in total not a very disappointing experience and not a hotel we like to come back to. Far too expensive and for sure not a 5 star."
