PB hotel design editorial

Built in 1909 as the Copenhagen Central Post Office by architect Heinrich Wenck — the same hand behind Copenhagen Central Station across the street — the Danish Baroque building that houses Villa Copenhagen presents one of the city's most assertive civic facades: red brick and pale limestone, a scrolled pediment heavy with allegorical stonework, and a copper lantern tower that has oriented Vesterbrogade for over a century. The hotel conversion, completed in 2020, delivered 390 rooms across the building's generous floor plates, with Bjarke Ingels Group handling the architectural adaptation and interior studio Stylt Trampoli responsible for the guest experience throughout. The rooms sit in two registers — lighter, Scandinavian-inflected spaces on the lower floors, where warm oak shelving units partition sleeping areas from work zones, quilted charcoal headboards anchor linen-toned walls, and articulated black steel pendants arc overhead — and darker, moodier attic rooms tucked beneath the mansard, where limewashed plaster walls meet porthole windows and globe chandelier clusters give the whole arrangement the feeling of a private Copenhagen apartment rather than a hotel floor. The brasserie draws the building's original brick piers into a confident room of red banquette seating, geometric encaustic tile, coffered ceilings lined with woven panels, and globe pendant lighting that echoes the attic rooms above. On the roof, a lap pool cuts between the building's original stone balustrade finials, looking out over an unbroken panorama of early twentieth-century Copenhagen brick.

Villa Copenhagen Reviews

"My daughter and I visited Copenhagen to celebrate her 26th birthday, and Villa Copenhagen was highly recommended to us. We arrived with high expectations, yet the hotel not only met them—it exceeded them. We were absolutely delighted with our stay. Beyond its beautiful design, originality, and exceptional comfort, the hotel offers excellent amenities and impeccable food, both in variety and quality. However, what truly made our stay unforgettable was the outstanding service. The staff are not only highly professional and kind, but they also genuinely care about ensuring that nothing detracts from your experience. We were deeply impressed. For the birthday occasion, they thoughtfully upgraded us to a room with a better view and welcomed us with champagne—a lovely and memorable touch. But even beyond that, every interaction was seamless, and even our smallest requests were handled with great care and efficiency. At one point, we were slightly upset due to a minor incident outside the hotel, and the team went above and beyond to make up for it with an additional gesture of hospitality. Truly remarkable."

"We chose Villa Copenhagen to celebrate our anniversary, and it turned out to be one of the most special and memorable stays we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, there was a feeling that this wasn’t just another hotel—it felt like somewhere truly special. The atmosphere, the design, and the warmth of the welcome all set the tone for what became a perfect anniversary getaway. Our room was absolutely beautiful—elegant, calm, and thoughtfully designed, creating the perfect space to relax and enjoy the occasion together. One of the most unforgettable highlights was the rooftop pool. There was something magical about being up there, soaking in the atmosphere—it felt like a little escape above the city and made our celebration feel even more unique. What really made the stay exceptional, though, was the people. Every single member of staff was kind, attentive, and genuinely caring, which made us feel truly valued as guests celebrating something important. A special mention goes to Ugo at the RUG Restaurant, who was especially friendly and added such a personal touch to our experience—though honestly, everyone we met was wonderful. And then there was the breakfast—absolutely incredible. Without exaggeration, it was one of the best we’ve ever had. The quality, variety, and attention to detail were outstanding, and it became something we genuinely looked forward to each morning. This stay meant so much to us. Villa Copenhagen didn’t just provide a place to stay—it helped create a truly memorable anniversary that we’ll look back on for years to come. We left already hoping to return one day."

"I booked three nights at the Villa several months ago. A month out from my May reservation an emergency came up and I needed to cancel my trip to Denmark. I begged for help refunding the booking but was turned away by the hotel. They wouldn't even consider a partial refund. The agents were cold and dismissive. I would say make a booking at your peril."

"We traveled as a family of 4 to Villa Copenhagen for 6 nights and had a great stay all around. We got two adjacent rooms and were happy with all aspects of our stay. The rooms were super clean and very tastefully finished. We loved the location directly across the street from the main train station and Tivoli Garden. The atmosphere was sophisticated and welcoming and the lobby was a great social space to hang out, eat, and hear a DJ set one night. The breakfast was included in our stay and was wonderful. The hotel has it's own bakery and their pastries and bread were amazing, as well as a generous spread of all kinds of other options for every member of our family Service was very good and friendly and we would absolutely stay again and recommend to others."
