PB hotel design editorial

Built in 1909 as the Copenhagen Central Post Office by architect Heinrich Wenck — the same hand behind Copenhagen Central Station across the street — the Danish Baroque building that houses Villa Copenhagen presents one of the city's most assertive civic facades: red brick and pale limestone, a scrolled pediment heavy with allegorical stonework, and a copper lantern tower that has oriented Vesterbrogade for over a century. The hotel conversion, completed in 2020, delivered 390 rooms across the building's generous floor plates, with Bjarke Ingels Group handling the architectural adaptation and interior studio Stylt Trampoli responsible for the guest experience throughout. The rooms sit in two registers — lighter, Scandinavian-inflected spaces on the lower floors, where warm oak shelving units partition sleeping areas from work zones, quilted charcoal headboards anchor linen-toned walls, and articulated black steel pendants arc overhead — and darker, moodier attic rooms tucked beneath the mansard, where limewashed plaster walls meet porthole windows and globe chandelier clusters give the whole arrangement the feeling of a private Copenhagen apartment rather than a hotel floor. The brasserie draws the building's original brick piers into a confident room of red banquette seating, geometric encaustic tile, coffered ceilings lined with woven panels, and globe pendant lighting that echoes the attic rooms above. On the roof, a lap pool cuts between the building's original stone balustrade finials, looking out over an unbroken panorama of early twentieth-century Copenhagen brick.

"Very nice hotel with really good breakfast and nice staff. Located nearby the train-station."

"We spent three absolutely perfect days at Villa Copenhagen. From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional: the warm welcome, the beauty of the hotel, and the stunningly bright lobby that immediately creates a relaxing atmosphere. The staff were incredibly attentive and reactive throughout our stay. A special mention goes to Chirley at breakfast reception, always ready to solve any issue with remarkable calmness and a constant smile. We are truly happy to have discovered this hotel and to have experienced our first stay in Denmark in such a beautiful setting. The location is simply unbeatable — right across from Tivoli Gardens and next to the central station. Coming from the airport, it takes only about 20 minutes to reach the hotel, and once there, you are already in the heart of Copenhagen. Honestly, it could not have been better. We will definitely come back."

"Searched and searched hotels and went with a recommendation to this fabulous hotel. It is across the road from the central station so easy access from the airport It is a stylish high end hotel. Stunning rooms and staff. Jens on reception gave us a wonderful five star welcome and a drink to celebrate my birthday. There is a heated outdoor pool on the roof with a sauna. There’s a delicious restaurant next door. You can walk or a quick 7 minute cab to downtown. The food in Copenhagen is so good all the lovely bars and restaurants. The Louisanna art gallery is so worth a visit, jump on a 40 minute train and it has a great restaurant with views over the sea. It’s so hard to chose the right hotel but I highly recommend this hotel. It really made our stay."

"I can go on and on about this place having recently stayed for the third time in a year. Fell in love with Villa Copenhagen the first time and still love it just as much if not more now. Everything about this place is so special. The amazing staff, the most incredible pool and spa, the gym, the rooms, the food... I'm not sure how long a review can be because I could keep writing about this place forever. If you read this review before you, you'll know exactly what I mean."
