PB hotel design editorial

Oscar de la Renta called it home for decades, and that personal claim on Casa de Campo Resort & Villas says more about the property's character than any design brief could. Established in 1974 on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic near La Romana — conceived by Gulf + Western as a private retreat for its executives before opening to the wider world — the resort spread across some 7,000 acres of Caribbean landscape, eventually growing to encompass more than 150 villas alongside hotel rooms, polo fields, and the celebrated Teeth of the Dog golf course designed by Pete Dye. The bones of the property have always been more plantation estate than hotel complex, low-slung structures threaded through mature palms and tropical gardens rather than stacked into resort towers. The images confirm a recent renovation that has introduced a cooler, more contemporary interior language to the guest rooms: travertine-tiled headboard walls rising floor to ceiling, limestone-look porcelain flooring, and furniture in pale ash and rattan that keeps the palette firmly in sand and stone territory, punctuated by teal cushion accents borrowed from the surrounding Caribbean. The pool deck runs to wide teak boards lined with white-cushioned sun loungers and teak side tables, an infinity edge dissolving into the sea horizon. The beachside restaurant, sheltered beneath a white-painted timber pitched roof with large woven pendant shades overhead, sets reclaimed-wood dining tables directly above the sand — the architecture stepping back just enough to let the water do the work.

"We had breakfast every morning at La Cana during our stay at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, and it quickly became one of the highlights of our entire trip. Our server, Noe H., was absolutely outstanding. From day one he remembered our preferences, greeted us with genuine warmth, and made every morning feel effortless and welcoming. He struck that rare balance of being attentive without ever feeling intrusive, and he consistently went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. By the end of the stay, he wasn’t just our breakfast server—he was truly a memorable part of our experience and easily our favorite staff member across the entire resort. On one of the mornings, Moises stepped in to assist and he was also excellent—professional, kind, and very on point with service. It really says something about the team at La Cana that even when someone else filled in, the level of care and hospitality stayed consistently high. La Cana itself is a beautiful setting for breakfast, but it was the service that made it unforgettable. Noe H. in particular elevated every single morning and set the tone for the day in the best possible way."

"From the moment we arrived we knew we’d made the right decision booking the resort. We stayed for 10 nights in an elite room (102) which was a great size for our family of four. It had everything we needed and the team solved any slight issues quickly and efficiently. The resort is spread out over 7000 acres and our little golf buggy did some miles driving to the different areas which our children loved. We enjoyed horse riding, clay shooting, kayaking/padel courts and all of the restaurants in the all inclusive package. I can’t highlight enough how high standard the food/drink choices are and it’s by far the best we have encountered from any AI resort. The service we received throughout was excellent especially in La Cana restaurant where we enjoyed eating breakfast and lunch most days. Special mention to Noe and Evelyn who went above and beyond to provide us with a wonderful experience. Thank you!!!! We have already started planning next years holiday and we can’t wait to return to the paradise that is Casa de campo ☀️🌴"

"The resort experience was okay. The good: Beautiful property, excellent housekeeping - very clean accommodations, Roberto+ Robinson at the pool bar were the best. They really made an awesome experience for us in and around the pool. Not so great: Service was lacking - check in took much longer than it should have, the lobby was chaotic, breakfast was always a struggle getting service for simple things like water + coffee, went to the beach club twice - did not have a single person help me with chair, umbrella, or drinks while there, and the resort shuttle was not questionable + reliable"
