PB hotel design editorial

Cap Cana's coral-edged headland, where the Caribbean meets a stretch of coastline dramatic enough to anchor a Jack Nicklaus golf course, sets an ambitious stage — and the St. Regis Cap Cana Resort, opened in spring 2025, meets it with architecture scaled to match. Alejandro Acebal Canney of Acebal Canney Arquitectos & Asociados designed the 200-key resort around a defining interior move: a five-to-six-story atrium modeled on a cenote, with a cascading waterfall dropping beneath a skylight. It is an audacious piece of theater that gives the hotel a spatial identity most beachfront properties never attempt. The exterior massing, as seen from above, curves and steps back in broad horizontal bands of warm timber cladding and glass-balustrated terraces, the whole composition sitting within 700,000 square feet of travertine that runs from the atrium floors outward through the public spaces. Chapi Design handled the interiors, with AG Interiores contributing additional direction, and the rooms reflect a palette attuned to the sea just beyond the sliding glass doors: blue-lacquered headboards with geometric inlay, pale holm oak millwork, blue-tinted hand-tufted rugs, and travertine side tables. The rooftop restaurant, housed beneath a boldly cantilevered concrete disk and wrapped in bronze-framed floor-to-ceiling glass, frames the turquoise water and offshore golf holes as a continuous panorama. Of the 200 keys, 36 suites open directly onto private plunge pools, completing what is a genuinely ambitious debut for the St. Regis brand in the Dominican Republic.

The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort Reviews

"We first stayed here in January after a conference at a very large resort, and decided to tack on a couple of personal days at the St. Regis. We are SO glad we did! From the minute we walked onto the property, it felt like we had stepped into another world. The welcome, the service, the refreshing papaya water—it was exactly the peaceful, luxurious experience we were looking for after a busy conference. The resort is beautiful, the service is wonderful, and the food was excellent. We really enjoyed both restaurants, and breakfast was amazing. We loved it so much that we came back in June for another three nights just for a quick summer getaway. It’s also super convenient from Atlanta, which makes it an easy choice for a little luxury escape. We’ve now been twice, and I have a feeling we’ll be back again. Highly recommend!"

"The place as a whole was impeccable. Food and drinks were top notch so was the services. Special thanks to Jordi Santos at the Amber Bar for his knowledge in mixology and also on the cigars. Noise level was never an issue. Room was impeccable and comfortable beef and pillows."

"We have visited several other St. Regis resorts in Puerto Rico (no longer a St. regis) and Punta Mita, so when we decided to come to the Dominican Republic, St. Regis was an easy choice. We have always been impressed by the beautiful surroundings and excellent service that St. Regis offers. Even though this resort had lower than average reviews, we chalked it up to it being a newer location that was still working out kinks and gave it a chance anyway. The reviews weren't wrong, unfortunately. While it is an absolutely beautiful resort, the service left SO much to be desired. In other words, aside from a few exceptional employees, it was pretty poor, service wise. First strike? Our first day at the pool. Even though we had a swim out pool room (highly recommended!) we wanted to check out the pool as well. Well...we arrived, and while at other St. Regis locations, we were serviced immediately (towels laid out on chairs, water brought immediately), here, we were ignored completely. Again, we chalked it up to growing pains, until we saw another couple show up and get attended to IMMEDIATELY. And then another. And another. Keep in mind, the workers that attended to those other couples WALKED RIGHT BY US. So it wasn't a visibility thing. We called the pool attendant over -- his name is Willy -- and asked to speak to his manager. The manager, Joselyn, was just as useless, and insisted that we shouldn't have been ignored. Well, we were. And it didn't feel good at all. My husband asked to have some sort of resolution by end of day, and it never came. The next day, my husband contacted the manager, and they profusely apologized and offered us a free cabana for the rest of our stay. Fine. The next night? Dinner at Cassava. Our server, Joyeul, was by far the WORST server I've ever encountered in my life. He was extremely rude, condescending, and we overheard him talking negatively about us because we had the 'nerve' to order 'regular' water instead of their $20-a-bottle sparkling water. If you're going to trash talk your customers, do it out of earshot at least? He was so so SO rude and completely soured that experience. However, our butler, Diego? He was INCREDIBLE and turned what would have originally been a one star review into this three star review. He was attentive, so polite and accommodating, and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was better moving forward. Is this resort St. Regis quality yet? Not at all. They need to retrain SO many of their employees. But again, Diego was EXCELLENT. Give that man a raise! Ruth at Cassava was another excellent employee. But note to management. WILLY, JOSELYN, AND JOYEUL do NOT represent the St Regis brand well at all. All three of them are horrible employees and need EXTENSIVE retraining. If it wasn't for Diego, this would have been a zero star experience. St. Regis -- PLEASE do better. We love the brand, but Willy, Joselyn, and ESPECIALLY Joyeul are SO shameful and do a HORRIBLE job at representing th St. Regis brand. Cannot state how completely awful all three of those employees were. Retrain them or get rid of them."

"The trip was fantastic, except for the unfortunate incident where my mother and I discovered that $550 was missing from our purses. It’s a shame that this incident tarnished the integrity of the enterprise. It’s appalling that someone felt the need to compromise us in such a manner. ."
