PB hotel design editorial

Perched on the upper floors of the Nile City Towers complex on the Corniche el Nil, where the river bends through central Cairo with Zamalek island caught in the middle distance, the Fairmont Nile City Hotel commands one of the most geographically privileged positions of any city hotel in Africa. The towers, completed in 2008, gave the property its dramatic elevation — a rooftop pool deck from which the full breadth of Cairo spreads in every direction, the Nile threading below like a seam through the urban fabric, with bridges and minarets punctuating the horizon at dusk. The interiors work across two distinct registers. Guest rooms in the darker category lean into a masculine palette of tufted black leather headboards, macassar ebony millwork, and circular bevelled mirrors set against near-charcoal walls, the city's illuminated skyline framed through floor-to-ceiling windows as though part of the décor. The more golden register — visible in the upper suites — shifts to fabric-panelled walls in pale grey silk, brass-edged coffered ceilings, and tufted leather ottomans in warm caramel, with the Nile glittering below through wide glazing. The bar and lounge areas deploy a Greek-key frieze along the ceiling cornice, plum-velvet balloon-back chairs, and a geometric wool carpet that nods simultaneously toward Art Deco Cairo and the ornamental traditions of ancient Egypt. The 657-room property across its 33 floors manages, mostly, to hold these references together without losing its nerve.

"Stayed at the Fairmount Nile City Hotel for a long weekend with my daughter to visit the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum. The hotel and staff were absolutely amazing. We arrived at midnight after my daughters luggage was delayed at Heathrow. The hotel staff had our room ready and a set of pyjamas and toiletries for her to settle in for the night. They kept us up to date with her luggage arrival and went out of their way to make sure my daughter was ok. We stayed in the Fairmount Gold rooms and this did not disappoint. The lounge, rooms and staff were brilliant and incredibly helpful and friendly. Christine arranged all our trips with an excellent tour guide Du'a and hotel driver, which made the trips super safe, fun and very informative. The hotel is in a great location for Cairo city tours and the wider areas including the pyramids and museums, and the view of the Nile from our room was magical. I would highly recommend the hotel for a great stay in Cairo and their key asset is their incredible, fun and professional staff. Thank you again for a wonderful trip and see you all on the next visit."

"We write this with the greatest appreciation of the helpful, attentive, and supportive collective staff of the Cairo Fairmont who lifted our adventures for a Viking Nile River Cruise to a level that overwhelmed us. Having arrived after nearly 40 hours of travel from the US at 2 AM, our request room was not available and an upgrade was provided. Super wonderful except for the shower which flooded into the room. Yousef Azraa found a way to further correct and heighten our added two days in Cairo with additional attention with comfort and smiles. Food, service and drinks were excellent particularly during Ramadan when the delicious daily comfort and break-fast meals needed greater variety. Saigon was excellent. Pricing excellent. Unfortunately, L'uvolio was not open when we're available and the capable, pleasing and obliging concierge Abdel Hamid and Abdel Rahman made excellent recommendations on the Nile boat restaurants of Zamalek island; Catchy and Pier88. To everyone's unfortunate surprise, the US recalled all its citizens after the Government started a war in the Middle East; yet the gracious helpful staff kept us safe, sound and extended our stay with Concierge level services including creation fof 2 complete full day trips with pick-up and return safe passages using Fairmont favored guides including Mina and Ahmed Shaban with rides to Alexandria and Luxor. With utter exhaustion, Yousef and the incredible staff extended our evacuation day. Viking services provided the rest. We look forward to completing this awesome experience soon when we can find the region at peace. Thank you so very much. Most sincerely to a kind and superior staff and management. Lauri and Dean Kane"
