PB hotel design editorial

Egypt's New Administrative Capital — the vast purpose-built city rising from the desert east of Cairo — gave The St. Regis Almasa Hotel Cairo one of the more charged briefs in recent Gulf-region hospitality: to anchor a brand-new urban district with the weight and ceremony of a European palace. The neoclassical facade visible in the images delivers precisely that, its warm sandstone-coloured render, pediment-crowned central pavilion, and symmetrical wings framing a reflection pool of considerable scale. Palm trees line the courtyard in a gesture that is unmistakably North African despite the Beaux-Arts vocabulary of the architecture. Inside, two distinct registers operate simultaneously. The grander suites draw on French Second Empire references — tufted velvet chaise longues in deep navy paisley, gilded chandeliers with pleated silk shades, carved headboards set against antique-mirror panels edged in gold moulding — while the standard rooms shift to a darker, more contemporary palette of walnut wall panelling, duck-egg blue upholstery, and patterned wool carpets. The all-day dining room deploys double-height dark timber joinery, a lacquered geometric ceiling grid, and a trio of Murano-style chandeliers — two clear, one crimson — alongside large-format figurative oil paintings that give the space a theatrical, almost operatic atmosphere. The indoor pool hall is distinguished by a steel-and-glass barrel-lit roof and bas-relief stone friezes flanking the walls, classical in source but restrained in execution.

"Front desk staff was SUPER rude to us, and literally raised his voice when I had a question to ask him. Worst St Regis experience"

"Oh of the best hotels in Egypt definitely! So classy so nice and the staff are extra awesome. The only problem was everything and anything we needed to do outside was almost from 20mins to 1 hour but it is definitely worth it. And will see the improvements soon hopefully!"

"We stayed at The St. Regis New Capital for our wedding, and overall it was a great experience. The staff were very welcoming from the moment we arrived. Chancia helped a lot with the wedding arrangements, and the reception team (Alaa, Khaled, and Samy) made our stay smooth and easy. I especially want to mention Mohamed Maghrabi. Our wedding day was stressful and emotional, but he stayed calm and patient the whole time. He handled many details for us, including last-minute changes, and always made sure things were under control. His support really made a difference for uS."

"The building is grand and the grounds are lovely. However that is where the positives end for this most disappointing of hotels. The staff and service are a real let down. There service is surly, lazy and minimal. Every time you speak to someone they seem put out and the simplest of requests gets ignored at by at least 3 different people before someone musters the energy to pretend to deal with it. The butler phone line is always 'engaged' ie left off the hook - leading you to have to call concierge who never answer. When you actually make your way down to reception to find the staff on their mobile phone and ignoring the silent ringing phone. House keeping is even worse. IF they bother getting to your room, they will stack your pillow, loosely set your duvet then disappear. No replishment of drinks, amenities or anything. The rooms are dirty, with previous guest hair all over the place. I honestly cannot over emphasis how underwhelmed I was by this service. The food was another big let down. From slow surly service, if you even manage to find a human in this vast expanse of a building. The chefs favourite and only ingredient is salt. They will over salt everything and it will arrive cold because it will sit for at least 20 minutes before someone bothers to think about bringing it to you. The room design is infuriating. Large, dusty rooms... With poorly positioned light switches and an austerity of power sockets, put it poor places that are used by lamps, which you must manually switch on/off from power switches hidden being furniture. The hotel is super large for no reason but to impress you with it's grandeur, however the service is an absolute disgrace and the staff are shockingly lazy and seem to find every trick in the book to avoid doing ANY work, mixed with an entitled of working for St Regis but no sense of responsibility. Also, there is absolutely nothing, and I mean NOTHING around this hotel, so don't be fooled by Google maps saying there are restaurants etc... The nearest life is 30minute taxi ride away, and good luck ordering a taxi, which if you are lucky to secure, will be held up for 10 minutes by slow security gate staff. A hard avoid, despite the photos. You will leave infuriated and disenfranchised by humanity."
