PB hotel design editorial

Powder-blue stucco walls, Moorish arched colonnades, and cedar roof brackets with sinuous Art Nouveau curves — the architectural language of La Maison Bleue in El Gouna is at once Mediterranean, Ottoman, and Levantine, a deliberate eclecticism that mirrors El Gouna itself, the private Red Sea resort town conceived by Egyptian billionaire Samih Sawiris and designed from scratch in the early 1990s as an homage to regional vernacular traditions. The property sits directly on the waterfront, its limestone-paved terrace giving onto bougainvillea beds and, beyond them, open sea. Inside, the atmosphere shifts from the coastal Mediterranean exterior into something closer to a nineteenth-century Alexandrian palace. Bedroom ceilings rise to four and five metres, their plasterwork Moorish arches supported on fluted columns painted in pale cream, the walls washed in deep dusty rose. Gilded Rococo headboards, herringbone-laid parquet floors, Ottoman-patterned upholstery on French-style bergère chairs, and Murano-style chandeliers with hand-blown flower-petal drops accumulate in rooms that feel assembled over generations rather than installed at once. The formal dining room extends this maximalist sensibility upward into a painted coffered ceiling — deep teal and ochre panels divided by carved walnut beams — with a Baccarat-style crystal chandelier suspended above tables dressed in white linen. At dusk, the travertine pool terrace frames a bronze dolphin fountain against the lit pavilion behind it, and the whole composition carries the unhurried, slightly theatrical confidence of a private house that happens to have guests.

"This was our second visit and was agood as the first one, The staff are attentive; Chef Vincent is a superb chef and cooked for us on two evenings with dishes of our choice. The concierge staff were fantastic in arranging our gold tee times and taxis to and frm the course. A lovely, lovely hotel with beautiful suites. You really must go and stay"

"There’s truly great service and then there’s La Maison Bleue service! I've been lucky to stay in a few 5-star hotels in my time, and they're all good experiences, but LMB lift friendliness and service to an outstanding level. Literally nothing was too much trouble, in any part of the hotel. It really felt like a glam home from home. A billionaire's 'guest villa' originally, it feels both homely and elegant at once. I've an unusual set of dietary restrictions, but they were easily accommodated and it was Christmas during my stay and chef made an entirely separate festive set meal just for me! The rooms were each unique and very pleasant. I needed help with meds while staying, and the team took care of me like i was family. There's a wonderful restaurant just next door if you fancy a change of scenery one evening, Botanica. And several other nice ones in the marina 10 mins walk away, I liked Char in particular."

"Our stay exceeded all expectations. La Maison Bleue Hotel offers a tailor-made and personalized stay for every guest. The grounds and interior are beautifully designed. The suites are spacious and offer every comfort. The team is extremely friendly and leaves nothing to be desired. The restaurant and bar are excellent, with extremely fresh and seasonal cuisine. The pool, spa, beach, and yoga on the terrace round off the offer. Our stay was unforgettable and we are looking forward to our next trip to La Maison Bleue—for us, it is less a hotel and more a home away from home."
