PB hotel design editorial

El Gouna itself is the starting point for understanding The Chedi El Gouna — a private resort town on Egypt's Red Sea coast that was conceived from scratch by Egyptian developer Samih Sawiris in the early 1990s, its low-rise architecture drawing on Nubian and Upper Egyptian vernacular forms to create something that felt rooted rather than imported. The Chedi arrived within that framework as GHM's contribution to the destination, its campus of warm terracotta and sandy ochre volumes spreading across a lagoon-fronting site in a language that echoes the town's own architectural DNA: flat roofs edged with crenellated parapets, domed pavilions, arched colonnades, and date palms threaded through the compound in patterns that soften the boundary between building and garden. The interiors take a sharper, more contemporary line than the exterior might suggest. Guestrooms are finished in pale limestone tile and cream plaster, furnished with linen-upholstered beds, circular walnut side tables, and tripod-legged floor lamps — a restrained Scandi-inflected vocabulary that lets the vintage black-and-white photography of Egyptian landscapes, camels, and pyramid building do the atmospheric work on the walls. The rooftop restaurant pushes further still: timber columns wrapped in warm-toned cladding support a canvas pergola structure over rope-woven armchairs and polished concrete floors, the whole terrace calibrated to perform at dusk, when the Red Sea dissolves into a darkening horizon beyond the balustrade.

"Exceptional Egyptian hospitality. We really wanted to purchased a used bath towel as it was perfect size to always think of El Chedi, but they said they weren’t for sale :( However, this does not detract from the wonderful hospitality. From Front Desk—Mercarius, Guest Relations-Christine, Breakfast Server Mahmoud, and hostess Rana—all were very kind"

"We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would definitely recommend it. The rooms were clean, the facilities were great, and everything was well maintained. The staff were always incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome every single day. A special thank you goes to Saif Mohamed (16 years old), who spoke excellent German with us and always took the time to make sure we had everything we needed. Also the other staff were always very friendly and attentive, like Nader Eid and the girls in the reception of the restaurant. A very special thank you also goes to the chef, Fikry Allord. The Golden Menu he cooked one evening was so delicious. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The housekeeping staff were always kind, friendly, and very accommodating, and our room was cleaned to a high standard every day. Also the beach staff, especially Abdo Mohammed was always very friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed at the beach. Overall, the hospitality of the entire restaurant team was exceptional. Thank you for making our vacation so memorable, we would be happy to come back!"

He remembered what I liked to eat, was extremely friendly and very caring when I felt a little ill during the trip. Could not compliment them more."

"We had a wonderful stay at The Chedi. A special thank you to Macarious George, who made sure every detail was exactly as we wished. He was welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay from the moment we arrived until the end of our vacation. Also Hani Mohammed from housekeeping for always ensuring our room was prepared exactly the way we liked it. Thanks to Ahmed Hejazi, the lifeguard, who was helpful at the beach and with the water activities. Definitely will come back."
