PB hotel design editorial

Whitewashed render, domed rooflines, and deep arched loggias cascading down toward the Red Sea — the architectural language at Mövenpick Resort Sharm El Sheikh draws directly from the Nubian and Moorish vernacular that Egyptian resort developers embraced across Sinai during the late 1990s and early 2000s, producing a building that feels closer to a hilltop medina than a conventional beach hotel. Set along the Naama Bay coastline with the arid Sinai mountains as a backdrop, the 340-room property steps down its site in terraced blocks, each level claiming unobstructed water views through balconies framed by turned-wood mashrabiya screens and whitewashed balustrades. The interiors sustain that commitment to regional craft with considerable consistency. Guest rooms are finished in terracotta floor tiles, their ceilings shaped into barrel vaults that echo the exterior dome forms and lend the spaces an almost caravanserai-like enclosure. Carved dark-walnut headboards, geometric Persian-style kilim rugs, and pierced-brass lantern sconces warm the otherwise pale plaster surfaces, while arched window alcoves fitted with cushioned banquettes frame the sea beyond. Outside, the grounds move from free-form swimming pools edged in pale stone through manicured palm gardens down to a sandy beach sheltered by a rocky promontory, a thatched bamboo pavilion marking the headland's edge. The overall effect is of a resort that wears its Orientalist references lightly enough to feel atmospheric rather than theatrical.

"I recently stayed at the Mövenpick Resort Sharm El Sheikh and would like to share my feedback. Overall, it is a solid choice for Sharm standards and an ideal spot if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation. The Highlights: • Reception: The team is very professional and successful. A special thank you to Ms. Menna for her excellent service and hospitality. • Wi-Fi: The quality is impressive; the connection is strong almost everywhere across the resort. • Pool & Cleanliness: The pool temperature was perfect, and the general cleanliness of the hotel is quite good. • Dining: The food is tasty and well-prepared for the region. Areas for Improvement: • Beach Restrictions: While there are four beaches, only two were open for swimming due to security reasons. Even in those areas, the swimming sections were very small and restricted. This was quite frustrating. We later moved to the Novotel, where there were no such restrictions at the beach entrance. • Beach Atmosphere & Music: The beaches lack a specific "vibe." I highly recommend hiring a music styling company to curate a chill-out music playlist to enhance the guest experience. • Bars & Drinks: The beach bars were a bit disappointing. The cocktails were mostly made with unhealthy syrups and lacked visual appeal. • Snack Variety: It was inconvenient that snacks are only served at the pool and not the beach. Furthermore, the current snack selection is limited and lacks flavor. Adding variety like pizza, burgers, or chicken wings would make a big difference. • Kids Club: The operating hours are too short. To be truly family-friendly, it should be open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. • Housekeeping: While generally clean, I noticed that the chandeliers in the rooms were quite dusty and need more attention. Verdict: A good hotel for a peaceful stay, but it could be excellent with a few upgrades to the beach service and entertainment."

"My stay at Mövenpick Sharm El Sheikh Resort was extremely disappointing and nowhere near the standard one expects from a five-star property. The single biggest issue — and the one that completely destroyed the experience — was the relentless advertising and harassment from people selling services all over the resort. Spa sellers, excursion agents, photographers — they are everywhere. On the beach, while relaxing, while having coffee, while simply walking across the property. At almost any moment someone would approach you and try to sell something. And it doesn’t happen once. It happens repeatedly throughout the day. There appears to be no control whatsoever from resort management over this behaviour. Guests cannot relax for even a short period without being interrupted by someone trying to sell a massage, a boat trip, or a photo shoot. It genuinely feels like walking through a street market rather than staying in a five-star resort. You come to a resort like this specifically to relax and disconnect. Instead, it feels like paying for a premium service while being forced to watch advertisements all day long. That is not what anyone expects when booking a property that markets itself as a luxury resort. Management seriously needs to explain how this is considered acceptable. Either there is no policy controlling vendors inside the resort, or it is simply not enforced. In either case, it reflects very poorly on the management of the property. The food situation was also disappointing. The resort is definitely not vegetarian-friendly. Mr Sherif and the restaurant staff did try to help us with vegetarian food, and their effort was appreciated, but the options were extremely limited, and the general quality of food was below average. Rooms were spacious, well maintained, and had very nice sea views with balconies. We had a small issue with the bathroom, but reception resolved it quickly. The beaches are the best part of the property. There are four beaches, two with sandy entry, which is great for swimming, and the snorkelling is very good. There are enough sunbeds and a jetty as well. However, even the beach — which should be the most peaceful part of the resort — is not spared from the constant sales pitches. Night entertainment was also surprisingly nonexistent. Considering the hotel is located in Naama Bay, where many nearby resorts have evening programmes or events, there was almost nothing happening here. One evening had a violin performance, but it was inside a café where you had to pay extra despite being on an all-inclusive package. The resort itself is spread across a large and beautiful property and has the potential to be one of the best resorts in the region. Unfortunately, the current guest experience is far from that. The management of Mövenpick should seriously reconsider the uncontrolled sales activity happening across the resort. Until this issue is addressed, guests simply cannot enjoy the peaceful and relaxing experience that a five-star resort is supposed to offer. I hope management responds publicly to explain whether they plan to fix this, because at the moment the constant harassment from vendors completely ruins what could otherwise be a very nice property."
