PB hotel design editorial
Red brick Dutch-gabled facades rising from immaculate Berkshire parkland, with giant sequoias standing sentinel at the lawn's edge — this is the architectural register that Fairmont Windsor Park established when it opened in 2021, a purpose-built country house hotel designed to feel as though it had stood for a century at the edge of Windsor Great Park. The building's stepped gables, white stone quoins, and slate-grey mansard rooflines draw from the Jacobethan tradition with enough conviction to avoid pastiche, set across 39 acres and housing 229 rooms and suites arranged across wings that step back from a central entrance portico framed by a glazed canopy. The interiors, designed by GA Design, sustain a dialogue between the building's Edwardian country house vocabulary and a quieter contemporary sensibility. Guest rooms carry gold-ground blossom wallcoverings — some panels rising to the ceiling in a single unbroken field — with upholstered headboards in pale linen and wing chairs in taupe leather set against herringbone carpet. Attic rooms gain particular character from circular dormer windows framing treetop views, while the restaurant deploys a darker mood: a storm-painted ceiling, wrought-iron chandelier rings hung with crystal, and chairs upholstered in bird-of-paradise jacquard placed at marble-topped tables. The spa pools are finished in pale Calacatta marble, with lattice screens backlit in cherry blossom pink, giving the lower level a calm formality that sits comfortably beneath the Jacobethan extravagance above.

Fairmont Windsor Park Reviews
"Kindly take guest experience seriously and ensure staff are trained to uphold the standards expected of a five-star hotel. My wife and I visited the wellness spa at Fairmont Windsor Park last Saturday to enquire about lymphatic massage services. As we were leaving and heading toward the car park via the ballroom entrance, we were approached from behind by a member of the security team who asked, “Can I assist you with anything?” without first offering a greeting such as “good afternoon” or “welcome.” While I understand the importance of security, the manner of this interaction felt unwelcoming and lacked the warm, service-oriented tone one would expect in a luxury setting. The approach came across as abrupt and, at the time, felt uncomfortable—bordering on suspicion rather than hospitality. It was not the fact that we were approached, but how it was handled. Being addressed from behind without a courteous introduction falls short of the standards typically associated with a hotel of this calibre. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as improved training in guest engagement would make a meaningful difference to the overall experience."

"Just got back from a stay at the Fairmont Hotel Windsor and honestly… it was brilliant. It was our first wedding anniversary, not something we can afford often to do but wanted something special Big shoutout to Tyler on the front desk — genuinely exceptional and made us feel welcome straight away. Layla, one of the managers, was also amazing and clearly cares about making sure guests have a great experience. The bar was quite rowdy during the evening with huge party guests from the night before but the staff were excellent and ended up being a great night as we were looked after The spa is next level — easily the best we’ve been to. My wife loved her pedicure with Kate, and Caleb absolutely nailed my Swedish massage. Both were spot on. Rooms were really nice, super comfortable, and everything you’d want. And the food and service? Exactly what you’d hope for — actually, probably better. Would 100% recommend. We’ll definitely be going back."

"Incredible the ambiance, the service, the rooms and the reception. We had a relaxing and comfortable stay for eight days at the hotel. Enjoyed it thoroughly especially Lennon and Mohammad service in the lounge."

"We stayed at Fairmont Windsor Park as a family of four (two adults, two children, including one wheelchair user), and overall had a lovely stay—but with a few details that held it back from a true five-star experience. 🌿 First Impressions & Arrival The hotel is undeniably beautiful on arrival—the grounds, fountains, and overall setting are stunning and very picturesque. However, we were surprised to find the disabled parking blocked off with cones, which wasn’t ideal on arrival. On a positive note, the doormen were extremely friendly and welcoming. In fact, many of the male staff members—particularly at the front and reception—were fantastic with the children, making conversation and helping them feel included. 🛎️ Service & Booking Experience While staff were generally warm and helpful, booking activities and getting information from reception was quite slow. For a five-star hotel, an app or more streamlined booking system would make a big difference—especially given the number of children’s activities that require advance booking. 🍽️ Food & Dining Due to renovations in the main restaurant, food was served in the bar and tea room. Breakfast included a mix of à la carte and buffet options: -The acai bowl was lovely -The avocado toast was disappointing (burnt bread) -We were also able to access halal chicken and chicken sausages, which was a great option to have Breakfast staff were attentive and helpful We also had lunch and dinner: Kids’ portions were very large (adult-sized, honestly) - Food overall was enjoyable. 🛏️ Room & Comfort The room was a decent size, and the beds were comfortable. Nice touches: -Kids’ bathrobes and slippers -Dominoes left in the room for them However, there were several issues: -A slanted section of flooring felt odd underfoot -A flickering light (Room 1075) was quite irritating -A dirty teacup was left in the room on arrival -Requested bed sides for children weren’t set up in advance -Additional water for medical needs was only provided on the first day -Bathroom design wasn’t very child-friendly for a family room; The tap was too far back for children to reach with no step stool provided. -The toilet door was also very squeaky and loud for night use. -Also, the use of bar soap instead of pump dispensers felt below five-star expectations. Housekeeping and turndown service were otherwise good. 🧸 Children’s Facilities & Activities There was plenty for children to do, especially over Easter, including: -Craft sessions -Cupcake decorating (allergies were accommodated 👍) -Games like ping pong and basketball The activity host was lovely. Improvements could be made as the tables weren’t cleaned between sessions (sticky from icing/sprinkles) / The space wasn’t purpose-built—it felt more like a temporary setup It would really benefit from: -A proper kids’ club -A sign-in/out system so parents could use the spa 🏊 Pool & Leisure -Pool temperature was great -Facilities appeared clean -However - Family swim time was very limited (2–3 hours per day). This felt restrictive, especially during school holidays. There is a separate adult-only outdoor pool, so more family access would have been reasonable 🐴 Grounds & Extras The grounds are beautiful -Pony visits were a lovely touch—but poorly organised (queue issues) -The Toylander car; Fun idea, but only one available / Must be booked in advance for additional cost / No siblings allowed as passengers (unlike at The Grove)/ Many children missed out so this felt limited—another car would make a big difference. ⭐ Overall Verdict We had a really enjoyable stay, and there are many positives—especially the setting, friendly staff, and range of activities. However, a number of small but important details (cleanliness, room setup, organisation, accessibility touches, and booking systems) made it feel more like a 4 to 4.5-star experience rather than a full five-star, particularly considering the price. With a few improvements, this could easily match true five-star expectations."

"The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived at the main entrance through to reception, creating a warm and welcoming first impression that set the tone for our entire experience. Mahir was particularly outstanding—polite, professional, and consistently courteous throughout our interaction. His attention to detail and genuine hospitality truly enhanced our stay. I would highly recommend Fairmont based on the excellent service provided, especially by Mahir. A wonderful experience overall, and I would confidently recommend it to others"
