PB hotel design editorial

A seventeenth-century Cotswolds farmhouse, its honey-coloured oolitic limestone warmed further by the low angle of evening light, provides the structural heart of Dormy House Hotel — though the property has expanded well beyond its agricultural origins into a 38-room retreat whose barn conversions and contemporary spa additions sit in careful conversation with the original building. The farmstead character is most legible from the drive, where a copper lantern mounted on rough-hewn stone gateposts signals the transition from the Broadway countryside into something more considered. Inside, the interiors were reimagined by Grzywinski+Pons, the New York and London practice, whose approach across the guest rooms keeps the drama of exposed apex roof trusses and vaulted ceilings as the primary architectural statement, then layers in mid-century and global references beneath them — a patterned blue headboard wall in Portuguese tile-print fabric here, a cluster of sunburst rattan mirrors there, orange ceramic table lamps against whitewashed rafters. The restaurant, called Potager, moves in a livelier register: bird-motif wallpaper by a Fornasetti-adjacent sensibility, globe pendant lights on brass drops, and curved upholstered banquettes that give the limestone-walled dining room the atmosphere of a London neighbourhood brasserie transplanted into the Cotswold hills. Beneath it all, the spa descends into a contemporary lower level finished in pale travertine and grey stone, the heated pool ringed with white pebbles and gold pendant lights — a cleanly modern counterweight to all that agricultural vernacular above.

"Dormy House is a regular haunt for lunch for us in the Bar Restaurant. A simple Menu but beautifully done. Sitting on the Terrace on a Summers Day ,set in fantastic countryside, is just perfect! I had the Prawn Sandwich , packed with Prawns and super flavours . Mrs T the Caesar Salad , brilliant and the best I’ve tasted . Super quality ingredients. Finished with two scoops of their ice cream . The Apple flavour was really stunning. Always memorable and a quality experience at Dormy - Thank you"

"Outstanding place to stay. The staff were exceptionally attentive. The hotel is beautiful. It's lovely short hike into the town of Broadway, through fields where sheep are grazing. It's everything you imagine the Cotswolds to be!!!"

"The grounds and property were stunning and a joy for the senses. The food was well made and had a strong variety, which does not always happen. Going to lunch at their sister hotel was also fabulous. Shout out to Amy C. who met our needs with grace and efficiency."

"We’ve just returned from a fantastic two night stay, celebrating a ‘big’ birthday. I did a lot of research beforehand in an effort to find the right hotel - luxurious with spa, excellent food and great service - and I have to say Dormy House certainly met if not exceeded my expectations. From the moment we arrived and were greeted in the car park it was all smooth sailing. What a lovely touch that is. We really felt welcomed. The staff are hugely professional yet friendly and helpful. All are knowledgeable and willing to put the guests first should anything be requested. We felt very well looked after throughout our stay. Dinner at MO was excellent and tremendous fun. We would highly recommend trying it. I’m pescatarian and the meat course was swapped out for me with no fuss ( the replacement dish was delicious.) Breakfasts and another evening meal in The Back Garden were also excellent and thoroughly enjoyed. Staff here were delightful too. Despite looking for a luxury hotel I didn’t want one with a stuffy atmosphere and Dormy House get this spot on. Excellent attention to detail without fuss and always with a smile. Bedrooms were fantastic and delivered exactly what we were looking for. Thank you to the housekeeping staff who looked after us incredibly well. Great turn down service. Spa was luxurious and not overly busy. Wonderful facial! The surrounding area offers lots of interesting walks and places to visit: Broadway and Broadway Tower, Batsford Arboretum, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh, Hidecote and Sezincote. Lots and lots to do. So, in conclusion, a really memorable weekend. We are already planning a return visit."
