PB hotel design editorial

A seventeenth-century Cotswolds farmhouse, its honey-coloured oolitic limestone warmed further by the low angle of evening light, provides the structural heart of Dormy House Hotel — though the property has expanded well beyond its agricultural origins into a 38-room retreat whose barn conversions and contemporary spa additions sit in careful conversation with the original building. The farmstead character is most legible from the drive, where a copper lantern mounted on rough-hewn stone gateposts signals the transition from the Broadway countryside into something more considered. Inside, the interiors were reimagined by Grzywinski+Pons, the New York and London practice, whose approach across the guest rooms keeps the drama of exposed apex roof trusses and vaulted ceilings as the primary architectural statement, then layers in mid-century and global references beneath them — a patterned blue headboard wall in Portuguese tile-print fabric here, a cluster of sunburst rattan mirrors there, orange ceramic table lamps against whitewashed rafters. The restaurant, called Potager, moves in a livelier register: bird-motif wallpaper by a Fornasetti-adjacent sensibility, globe pendant lights on brass drops, and curved upholstered banquettes that give the limestone-walled dining room the atmosphere of a London neighbourhood brasserie transplanted into the Cotswold hills. Beneath it all, the spa descends into a contemporary lower level finished in pale travertine and grey stone, the heated pool ringed with white pebbles and gold pendant lights — a cleanly modern counterweight to all that agricultural vernacular above.

"I was given a gift voucher for an overnight stay at Dormy House including breakfast & money towards dinner for my 40th birthday. What a wonderful 24 hours myself & my husband had! We arrived at 12pm and enjoyed an afternoon in the spa- all of the facilities were very clean & felt luxurious. It was quite quiet which meant we could use all of the facilities at our leisure without it feeling busy. We especially liked the snow shower! We enjoyed a light lunch & drink in The Green House. Special mention to Max who was friendly & professional. When we went to collect our room key, we were informed that we had been upgraded to a courtyard suite- what a very special treat this was! We had 2 bathrooms, a sitting room & a bedroom with an extremely comfortable bed. The complimentary snacks & drinks were super and the bottle of champagne gifted for my birthday was great! Thank you for arranging this. The toiletries in the bathrooms are excellent & smell divine! Our dinner was absolutely delicious- the raspberry soufflé was the best dessert I’ve had in a long time and my husband said the pea & basil risotto was fabulous. The service in The Back Garden was exceptional- we were seated next to a large group & were asked if we wanted to be moved to a quieter table. We didn’t move but both commented on how nice it was that our needs were so closely thought of. Breakfast this morning was of equally high standard- an excellent wide choice on both the self-service & cooked options. At no point in either meal did we feel rushed or that anything would be too much trouble. All of the staff we came into contact with were very friendly & helpful. The cookies & water on departure were much appreciated. An excellent stay! We hope to return to soon and would highly recommend Dormy House to everyone!"

"Dormy House Hotel is in an amazing location within the Cotswolds, and I would definitely choose it again when staying in the Broadway area. They have two sister properties nearby, but Dormy really felt like the standout of the bunch. Breakfast in the garden area was absolutely wonderful and delicious, with vegetarian-friendly options available upon request. The staff were all extremely sweet and welcoming, which made the stay feel even more special. The rooms were very clean and well kept, with comfortable beds and nice showers. The pool was pristine, and the spa area was excellent, with a great sauna, steam room, snow machine, rain shower, and more. There were also thoughtful touches throughout the stay, like complimentary cookies each day and a daily beverage in the lobby area. The Hawkstone cider was delicious as well. We also really enjoyed lunch on the deck overlooking the pretty field across the way. Overall, Dormy House was a beautiful, relaxing, and memorable place to stay in the Cotswolds. Highly recommended."

"We travel quite a bit and I would have to rank our experience at the Dormy as top five. The setting is absolutely amazing, the hotel is historic, but renovated. The service was outstanding, and we are still talking about the meals that we had there, absolutely delicious. The rooms were excellent in the whole property was kept extremely clean. We enjoyed strolls near the property in the evening and the location to visit other villages was excellent. We highly highly recommend staying here!"

"The Back Garden Restaurant is by far the best restaurant in the North Cotswolds. We visit very often and it never disappoints. The Cheese Souffle is a must. All their dishes are amazing and we bring all our friends here. The garden itself is wonderful and has a vegetable patch used by the restaurant. You can sit outside too."
