PB hotel design editorial

Perched on the escarpment above Broadway, where the Cotswolds edge gives way to wide views across the Vale of Evesham, the honey-coloured Jacobean manor at the heart of Foxhill Manor presents a facade of leaded mullion windows, steep gabled rooflines, and a carved stone entrance arch that has changed very little since the house was built in the early twentieth century. The property, part of the Farncombe Estate alongside Dormy House and The Fish, was transformed into an exclusive-use retreat of eight rooms — more private house than hotel — with interiors that treat the original plaster ceiling mouldings and generous bay windows as the starting point rather than the constraint. The decorative approach moves confidently between periods without strain: a suite pairs an oak four-poster with a freestanding sculptural bath positioned to face the garden windows, while another room sets a curved linen bench and a Hans Wegner-influenced occasional chair against deep cobalt Roman blinds in a bold floral print. The restaurant draws warmth from a tiered crystal chandelier hung above a mix of grey and mustard velvet dining chairs, antique mirrors doubling the candlelight. Underground, a spa addition introduces a different register entirely — a lap pool edged in pale stone and white river pebbles, lit from below in deep aquamarine, with Tom Dixon-style brass pendant clusters overhead, the contemporary intervention sitting at a deliberate remove from the Jacobean stone above.

"We spent three wonderfully relaxing nights at Foxhill, hosted by a young and genuinely delightful team. On arrival, we were welcomed into a cosy lounge with a roaring log fire and a chilled glass of champagne. We stayed in the Juniper room on the ground floor, spacious, clean, and very well equipped. The bathroom featured a magnificent bathtub, with views over the herb garden, while the bedroom overlooked the main gardens. The bed linen was crisp, and the room felt comfortable. Although we didn’t fully use the Foxhill dining options, we enjoyed exploring other restaurants on the estate. The Seafood Restaurant at The Fish was an easy and pleasant walk across the field (with a well-lit path if preferred). We also had a couple of light meals at Foxhill, the freshly baked scones were a highlight. The spa at Dormy House was excellent, with a small but well-equipped gym and very friendly staff who served great lattes and delicious shortbread. We often took the car there and then enjoyed a scenic walk back to Foxhill, followed by a fantastic breakfast. There were, however, a few maintenance and detail issues that slightly detracted from the experience. These included mould in the shower, peeling paint in the bathroom, worn areas of carpet, and some stained chairs. The outdoor areas also needed attention, grass uncut, beds unweeded, cushions not set out until late in our stay, and some furniture and cushions in need of cleaning. The hot tub area, while beautifully positioned for sunset views, would benefit from a thorough tidy, including washing the blankets and general upkeep. A simple outdoor lamp or candle would also improve the evening atmosphere on all outdoor tables and at the hot tub. Overall, we loved the relaxed, all-inclusive feel and the warm, informal service from the team. With a bit more attention to detail, this could easily be a five-star experience."

"I think we were expecting a lot more. The staff couldn't be nicer but this not a $1,200 per night hotel. Very Scandi design, not English in the least. Something was missing? There seemed to be no soul to the property. Maybe 500 pounds per night, MAX. For that price we could have gone to some glorious resort in St. Barths. Go to The Point in upstate New York for a real ultra-luxe country house experience."

"We’ve got home from Foxhill Manor today after an incredible 3 night stay and I felt I had to write this straight away. What an incredible place. From the moment we arrived it just felt different. It really is “home from home” in the best possible way. Within half an hour we were wandering around in our slippers and didn’t put proper shoes back on for the rest of the stay! It’s indulgent, yes, but in the most relaxed, unpretentious way. Nothing feels formal or stiff. You can just be. The staff are what make it. Callum, Elliot, Grace, Holly, Craig and Charlene were honestly outstanding. Always smiling, always happy to chat, never rushed, and never making you feel like anything was too much trouble. You never once feel like a number. It feels personal, warm and genuine. They absolutely make Foxhill what it is. Thank you to all of you for making our stay so special. Even our dog clearly thought it was his new home. He was quite literally living his best life, wandering around like he owned the place! It’s rare to find somewhere that feels genuinely dog-friendly rather than just dog-tolerant. Sadly, I came down with a horrible head cold while we were there and Grace and Holly made sure I had honey, lemon and ginger whenever I needed it and Elliot made me a hot toddy or two which definitely helped 😉. And the food… Otis is just the loveliest, loveliest chef. Every single meal we had was stunning. Truly sensational. We enjoyed the concept of visiting the kitchen and chatting to Otis to decide our evening meal each night and had a lovely chat with him about how long he’d been a chef and what made him love what he does and you could see how passionate he is. That passion really comes through in the food. It was exceptional from start to finish. The Full Fox concept is genius. No decisions, no stress, just beautiful food, drinks, snacks, cosy spaces and time to properly switch off. It’s luxury without any of the stiffness. You can walk around in slippers and still feel completely spoiled. We left feeling completely looked after and genuinely sad to leave. We will absolutely be back. Thank you to everyone 💖"

"I honestly don't know where to begin, my expectations were far beyond exceeded for my first time staying at Foxhill. From arrival to check out, every touch point was perfectly considered and executed seamlessly. Even the small little touches didn't go unnoticed or unappreciated - such as the makeup remover flannels in the bathrooms, and the use of a backpack for the nature trail which I'd forgotten! I think the most special part of the whole experience was the staff. Wow, what an incredibly hospitable team. Everyone was truly impressive and lovely, but a special mention needs to go to Elliott in particular, such a warm and personable guy who couldn't go out of his way enough to ensure you had an unforgettable stay. The fact you could request pretty much anything to eat and drink at any time of day, and it was catered for, was a huge highlight. Especially being able to accommodate my dietary preferences without question or making me feel like it was too much trouble. Overall the quality of the food was impeccable! I honestly cannot wait to come back!"
