PB hotel design editorial

Marylebone's Portman Square has long carried a particular residential gravity — Georgian townhouses giving way to mid-century blocks that planted serious architecture at the northern edge of Mayfair. Into this context, Nobu Hotel London Portman Square arrived in 2021, fitting 249 rooms across a thirteen-floor tower whose exterior, visible in the images, presents a curtain of dark brick and glazing softened by a dramatically curved, illuminated entrance canopy — a gesture that signals arrival without resorting to grandeur. The interiors were handled by Rockwell Group, the New York studio that has shaped much of the Nobu Hotels aesthetic across its global portfolio, and the images show their characteristic layering of Eastern and Western references. Guest rooms carry floor-to-ceiling upholstered headboards in soft taupe, bleached ash millwork, and lantern-style bedside pendants with ribbed shades — a palette that stays warm without becoming heavy. The bar is a different register entirely: deep walnut joinery, brass-footed counter stools, a grid of pendant downlights suspended from an exposed pipe framework, and tan leather tub chairs around bronze-topped tables conjure something closer to a 1970s Tokyo private members' room than a London hotel bar. The restaurant extends the contrast, with a coffered ceiling in blackened steel, chevron-patterned wall panels, and mustard banquettes cutting through the darkness — the whole space oriented toward a full-height window framing an illuminated courtyard garden.

"My wife surprised me here for my birthday and what a choice! We went for the brunch and honestly the food was excellent, fresh, beautifully presented and full of flavour. But the real highlight was our waiter Orlando. He made the whole experience. Super knowledgeable, attentive without being pushy, and just genuinely warm. He's the kind of person who elevates a good meal into a great memory. Is it cheap? Absolutely not 😄 But if you come hungry and thirsty you will leave very happy. We got great value out of it and left with big smiles. Will we be back? 100% yes. Thanks Orlando! 🙏"

"The experience was really poor and very upsetting :( Having been recommended by Amex, I had high hopes. The room was adequate, until the air conditioning didn’t work, making it like a sauna. There was also a huge generator right outside the bedroom window, which sounded like a small aircraft outside. Opening the window at 3.30am having had no sleep, made the sound even worse. The choice was to either be cooler and have a helicopter outside, or to be warmer and have a “slightly further away” helicopter outside. Noted for the former, but didn’t sleep, either way 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ I reported it to the breakfast team and they offered to make a note. When checking out, we were offered the opportunity ponderous option of putting another portal air conditioning unit in, which seemed a little pointless, since the room was vacated 👀😂 I sent a note of a similar notion to the care team, who have yet to grace me with a reply. Not the best service for such a well-renowned venue operator 😬"

"Went to the restaurant for an anniversary dinner and the service and food were excellent. Our server Orlando helped explain any of the cocktails or menu items we were unsure of. The chefs prepared truly outstanding foods and Orlando even surprised us with a delightful desert for our anniversary. We had a selection of the raw fish and cooked dishes with each one surpassing my expectations. A favorite would be the Hamachi yellowtail with yuzo sauce. Cannot recommend it enough. The spice and tart sauce compliment each other peferectly. Ordered it twice in one sitting."

"When booking a hotel room for our first visit to London I was overwhelmed with options. We always choose AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts and decided Nobu should do the trick. We booked a suite because we had 2 adults and a child, the regular rooms cannot accomidate 3. Upon arrival the front desk was incredibly personable, kind and very informative. They made us feel welcome and really took the time to acknowledge out 5 year old which I always think is cool. The room is not large by any means but trust me when I say they pay attention to the details. The sheets, crisp. The pillows, large. The bath towels? Bath sheets! We all really enjoyed the soaking tub and included salts. There were 2 types of robes as well, a terry and a kimono. A childrens terry and matching slippers as well. A very nice touch. House keeping was prompt and thorough. Concerige was always ready and able to help us with our day if we needed it, sending us off with waters. The valet and bell service always happy to get us umbrellas (which were very needed!) The breakfast staff went above and beyond every morning, always chatting with our son and asking him what he would like. They even brought out a Happy Birthday plate and sand when my child embarassingly told them it was my birthday. The buffet paired with the off the menu ordering is a very nice set up. The - You May Want To Know- They did leave us generous welcome and birthday gifts that included alcohol in our room even after it was noted we don't drink alchohol. This is in no way a complaint, we left it for house keeping. But if you are in recovery this is something you may want to clarify with hotel. The lobby bar is very nice but service is more laid back. Not a great option if youre looking for a quicker option."
