PB hotel design editorial

Marylebone's Portman Square has long carried a particular residential gravity — Georgian townhouses giving way to mid-century blocks that planted serious architecture at the northern edge of Mayfair. Into this context, Nobu Hotel London Portman Square arrived in 2021, fitting 249 rooms across a thirteen-floor tower whose exterior, visible in the images, presents a curtain of dark brick and glazing softened by a dramatically curved, illuminated entrance canopy — a gesture that signals arrival without resorting to grandeur. The interiors were handled by Rockwell Group, the New York studio that has shaped much of the Nobu Hotels aesthetic across its global portfolio, and the images show their characteristic layering of Eastern and Western references. Guest rooms carry floor-to-ceiling upholstered headboards in soft taupe, bleached ash millwork, and lantern-style bedside pendants with ribbed shades — a palette that stays warm without becoming heavy. The bar is a different register entirely: deep walnut joinery, brass-footed counter stools, a grid of pendant downlights suspended from an exposed pipe framework, and tan leather tub chairs around bronze-topped tables conjure something closer to a 1970s Tokyo private members' room than a London hotel bar. The restaurant extends the contrast, with a coffered ceiling in blackened steel, chevron-patterned wall panels, and mustard banquettes cutting through the darkness — the whole space oriented toward a full-height window framing an illuminated courtyard garden.

"Another fantastic stay at NOBU PORTMAN SQUARE. This hotel has the best location of any luxury hotel in London for anyone who values early morning fitness & walking in the parks. It sits at equal distance to Hyde Park and Regent Park! We also sleep better at NOBU than anywhere else outside of our own home; the bedding is superior! Thank you team NOBU for another great visit!"

"We have stayed at this hotel at least twice a year for several years and have booked this room category before, which made this even more surprising. We arrived late in the evening and were given the last available room in our category. The room was much smaller than expected and did not match the impression given online. A member of the reception team even told us that the room is being advertised larger on Booking.com than it actually is and that the hotel had already asked for this to be corrected. As the hotel was fully booked, the only alternative offered was the highest suite category. We therefore decided to leave and stay elsewhere. Despite checking out immediately and never actually using the room, we were still charged for the night. I was also left with the impression that guests booking through third-party platforms are treated differently from those booking directly. Not the level of service I would expect from hotel line Nobu, especially as a returning guest."

"We booked 2 rooms at Nobu Portman Square, primarily for the location. And on location it delivers in trumps. Easy walkability to shops and restaurants with delightful Marylebone at your front door. The rooms are so comfortable and immaculate. If you stay more than 3 days I’d opt for larger than a standard room. The beds and pillows are perfection. The rooms are modern and crisp. Breakfast was included and it is fine just for a start to the day. Not a treat but practical. Staff are on-the-ball and enthusiastic. This adds a lovely level of hospitality. I will definitely return to this hotel on my next trip to London."

"Third Stay at Nobu Portman Square — Consistently Exceptional I almost never write reviews, but this hotel deserves one. This was our third stay in a short space of time, and once again, everything about it was exceptional. Service from every point of contact is superb, from arrival to departure. Luke on the door and valet parking is brilliant — always helpful, and he remembers you between stays, which makes a real difference to how welcome you feel. Whatever small request we've made during our stays, the answer is always "no problem." From a clothes steamer to extra coffee pods, extra water, parcel delivery, luggage holding, takeout breakfast from the restaurant. Nothing is too much trouble. The food and drinks at the Nobu restaurant, terrace, and bar are outstanding, but it's the service that really sets this place apart. Two people in particular deserve a special mention. Balazs noticed we'd been seated at a small bistro table, quietly consulted with his team, and stepped in to offer us a larger, more comfortable table, setting it all up himself and checking in periodically to make sure we were happy. He later found us a great spot in the bar area too, and has since helped us again with reservations on the terrace — attentive and reliable every time. Equally impressive was Restaurant General Manager Rita. With any hotel there's the odd issue that may arise. However, on this particular occasion, Rita took control of the situation and made it her priority to resolve it for us immediately, despite being exceptionally busy that evening. Even in a packed bar, we were made to feel like her priority. It's so refreshing to receive this level of personal attention from such a busy establishment these days — it's what makes us go back time after time. She's also just a genuinely delightful and kind person, who went well above and beyond to make our evening watching the England semi-final in the bar a really enjoyable one. Seriously impressed. Nobu Portman Square continues to deliver an exceptional experience, and staff like Luke, Balazs, and Rita - along with many others - are a huge part of why we keep coming back. Highly recommended."
