PB hotel design editorial

Shoreditch's particular gift to hotel design is the collision of rough industrial fabric with considered domesticity, and Redchurch Townhouse handles that tension more fluently than most. Fitted into a handsome early twentieth-century building on Redchurch Street, the 38-room property draws its interior language from the work of design studio Holloway Li, whose approach here sits closer to a well-travelled collector's apartment than any conventional hospitality brief. The lobby — visible through full-height timber-framed folding doors that dissolve the boundary between pavement and interior — pairs dark-stained panelling against walls finished in a chalky mineral plaster, the seating an assembly of cane-backed armchairs with green velvet cushions, low walnut coffee tables, and a navy sofa anchored by a vivid abstract canvas above it. Nothing matches, but nothing jars. The rooms carry the same sensibility into more private territory. One deploys a deep cobalt velvet sofa at the foot of the bed, brass swing-arm reading lights, and a vintage Bakelite telephone on the nightstand; another shifts into sage green walls, striped plaid curtains, and a tufted terracotta chesterfield that pulls the whole palette warmer. The restaurant downstairs switches registers entirely — striped black-and-white mosaic tile floors, dark timber bar with arched bottle shelves, and fluted pendant lights that bring a European brasserie formality to the ground floor. Throughout, the furniture carries a mid-century European provenance that feels sourced rather than specified.

"I had a great stay. What I love about the Soho House group is that you can invariably guarantee a fantastically comfortable bed, fab array of Cowshed bathroom products, and multitude of handy provisions such as hair straighteners, toothbrush, razor etc. My Tiny room was, as anticipated, pretty compact, but still, a lovely, light, cheery space to spend time in, and very peaceful. The location is great for exploring Shoreditch, the tube only about 3 minutes walk, and the area offers multiple, trendy dining and shopping opportunities. There’s also a Pyscle spinning studio right next door if you fancy a spot of exercise. The hotel doesn’t have a bar or lounge/workspace like many others in the group, apart from a teeny area around the reception desk, but there is a Cecconi’s restaurant on-site, serving breakfast through to dinner. We used it for breakfast and food and service was good. Check-in/out was efficient and super friendly from the very marvellous, very charismatic, Marvin. Soho House/Friend members can use the facilities of Shoreditch House,"

"I really enjoyed staying in this hotel. It’s a little farther flung within London but it’s in a trendy area, on a quiet street, and there’s an overground stop about 2 minutes away- you can be just about anywhere within 20 minutes. The attention to detail in this hotel is lovely. There’s excellent amenities in the bathroom including cowshed in the shower- the shower pressure is VERY good, the bed is comfortable and has about 800 pillows, which I personally prefer. I stayed in the room alone, and it was a good size for a single person. I imagine it might have been a little cramped if you have more than one suitcase? Not an issue for me. The a/c was arctic when I came in, which in July was much appreciated. Good closet space, affordable crisps and such in the room, and free tea/milk/cookies, which made it so nice to wake up. They also have a turndown service which was pleasant to come back to. The decor was very cute, and while I wish the nightstands had a little more room for a glass of water and my glasses, that’s a small annoyance. There are some great restaurants close by, and I wish I could have explored more. I moved on to a different hotel in London during my trip and honestly, I regretted it. Should have come back to Redchurch."

"Stayed for 1 night, could have stayed longer. Cozy room - big enough for two, amazingly comfortable bed had a great sleep. Bathroom small but fully functional and great rain shower with all the CowShed products and extras you would need if you forget anything (toothpaste, earplugs, creams, etc) Great sleep - nice and quiet - noisy fan in bathroom which seems to be on a sensor so sounds like its always on but does eventually switch off once the door is closed. Front of house staff warm and welcoming - thank you for the anniversary wine! Only minus was on entering room (first floor) above the restaurant there was a slight smell of food but that disappeared once the aircon was circulating. TV channels didnt work but could stream from our devices."
