"Sometimes the best hotel discoveries are the ones you weren't really looking for. We stayed at **South Place Hotel** near Liverpool Street in April 2026 for two nights in a Deluxe Room, with champagne and breakfast included — and I came away pleasantly surprised by both the hotel and the location. I don't normally choose this part of London for a leisure stay. Perhaps I should start doing so! ## A Boutique Hotel in the City South Place Hotel has been part of London's Square Mile since **2012**, and was one of the first new luxury boutique hotels to open in the City of London in decades. It's a relatively small property compared with many of London's grander five-star hotels, but that gives it a more intimate and contemporary feel. And the location is surprisingly handy. You're within easy walking distance of **Liverpool Street Station**, making it very easy to get around London, while the surrounding area has plenty of restaurants, bars and attractions. ## A Little Anniversary Welcome We'd let the hotel know that we were celebrating our **two-year anniversary**, and the team had thoughtfully left us a welcome card and some fruit in the room. And, of course, there was the promised **champagne**! It's a simple thing, but these little touches make arriving at a hotel for a special occasion feel that bit more memorable. ## Our Deluxe Room The room was modern, stylish and comfortable, with a contemporary feel that suited the hotel perfectly. The bathroom was particularly impressive, with plenty of marble, a large bath and a separate shower. It's exactly the sort of bathroom that makes you want to take your time getting ready rather than rushing out to explore London. Although, in our case, we didn't spend quite as much time in the room as we might have liked. There was a city to explore! ## Breakfast With Personality Breakfast was served in the hotel's wonderfully eclectic restaurant, and this was another area where South Place stood out. I particularly liked the **quirky artwork and décor**. It's not a bland, corporate hotel restaurant where everything looks as though it was selected from the same catalogue. There's personality here. And that's something I always appreciate. ## A Very Convenient Base We made good use of the hotel's location during our stay. From South Place we headed out around London for dinner at **Yauatcha City**, took in the views from **The View from The Shard**, enjoyed some evening entertainment at **Hijingo**, and had dinner the following night at **45 Curtain Road**. It was a busy couple of days! But the hotel worked really well as our base, because we could easily head out and explore different parts of London without spending half the evening travelling across the city. ## Would I Stay Again? Definitely. What surprised me most about South Place Hotel was how much I enjoyed staying in an area of London that I wouldn't normally choose for a leisure break. The hotel itself is modern and comfortable, the rooms are stylish, the bathrooms are excellent, the restaurant has plenty of character and the anniversary touches were very welcome. More importantly, the location is much better for a London city break than I had expected. You're close to Liverpool Street and within easy reach of some of London's best restaurants, entertainment and attractions, while avoiding some of the constant chaos you get in the more obvious tourist areas. So if you're looking for a **stylish boutique hotel with a convenient City location**, I'd definitely put South Place on your shortlist. And as for me? **I don't normally stay in this part of London — but after this experience, I might have to reconsider.** **Verdict: A stylish and characterful boutique hotel that turned an unexpected part of London into a surprisingly good base for a city break. Add the excellent location, comfortable rooms and thoughtful service, and I'd happily return.**"

"Had a lovely overnight stay with my friend, hotel was lovely. All the young girls we came across were so friendly especially the girl on the bar lunchtime Tuesday. (Sorry we did not get your name). Room was smallish but all we needed. Not a great ending to our break, we booked a taxi with the hotel to take us to Kings Cross station, it came and the traffic was really bad. Around 30 minutes we thought we were near and then we passed right by ! I said to the taxi driver we are going to KC, he said he was told Euston. If you know that area you will know he still had to wait in traffic quite a bit before he could turn round? Our train to Edinburgh was 230pm, we arrived at 2.21pm, at the side entrance so we had to run up to the platform, then go thru the barriers with lots of others. We arrived on the train at 2.28pm very stressed by it all. We are two ladies in our 70s so the break ended on a horrid ending."

"We 30 mins outside London and were seeing a show in Wembley and wanted to stay in London, so booked south place hotel as it looked good on their website . Our stay was amazing and the hotel itself was fantastic. We had a lovely champagne breakfast which the eggs florentine were the best I have had. Champagne was lovely and the waiters were so nice and helpful and even gave me some lovely ginger tea to take home as I liked it so much . Beds were very comphy and bathrooms with a massive bath and rainfall shower was excellent . Bar drinks were expensive but that to be expected in London. Will be booking again"
