PB hotel design editorial

A Victorian townhouse on 7-8 Park Place, tucked into one of St. James's most quietly patrician streets, has housed a private members' club since the mid-nineteenth century — a lineage that gives the St. James's Hotel & Club Mayfair an atmosphere closer to inherited gentlemen's territory than to designed hospitality. The building's restrained Italianate facade, with its stone dressings and rhythmic sash windows, signals nothing of the richly layered interiors within, which were overseen by interior designer Alberto Pinto and his Paris studio in a scheme that balances the grandeur of the club tradition against a more contemporary European sensibility. Pinto's rooms work in deep jewel tones — burgundy, forest green, midnight navy — anchored by dark-stained timber joinery, bespoke upholstery, and decorative detailing that draws on French Empire and British Regency precedents without reproducing either literally. Gilt-framed portraiture and antique accents are woven through the 60 rooms and suites alongside custom furniture of a considered, slightly theatrical weight. The hotel's Seven Park Place restaurant, decorated in a correspondingly intimate register, earned a Michelin star under Billy Reid, its low-ceilinged dining room furnished with tufted banquettes and upholstered walls that absorb sound and candlelight in roughly equal measure. The cumulative effect is of a private house maintained at a standard that public rooms rarely achieve.

"Service was non existent. Air conditioning didn’t work. The lamp over the desk had no shade. We agreed that the one night I wasn’t there between visits I would not be charged. They charged £300. No apology. I asked for at least comp breakfast. They said no. Whoever the new management is should go to hotel school. This was my 5th visit. Never again."

"Nice, club-like 5-star boutique hotel just a few minutes from Green Park tube St. I was upgraded to a suite, which was a very welcome surprise. However, there was some renovation taking place, meaning that both the bar and restaurant was closed during my visit, which took the edge of the experience."

"We stayed at this hotel with my mom. The hotel was amazing, people at the reception were always very helpful. We really enjoyed their breakfast so i advise you too book room with breakfast. Their omellet was one of the best ones i've had in London 🥰 we also had drinks at their bar and their bartender Marcel was amazing!!! He helped us pick drinks that were not even on the menu to fit our taste better and he makes mean old fasioned so if you like whisky definetly try it, my mom had french martini and she loved it 😁 The hotel is also on a quiet street near soho so it was perfect for our trip"

"The hotel is nice, personnel very kind, the room was clean and well attended. The only problem I see is the bad is longer than the mattress so you cannot support your head against the bad since there is quite a large gap. So, at least couple of proper pillows 😂"
