PB hotel design editorial

Stratford's post-Olympic transformation produced some of London's more architecturally ambitious new builds, and the tower housing The Gantry London, Curio Collection by Hilton sits among them with genuine conviction. Designed by architects Darling Associates, the fourteen-storey bronze-clad structure deploys a rhythmic grid of vertical fins across its glazed facade — visible in the images catching afternoon light as the building turns a warm copper against the surrounding residential blocks of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park neighbourhood. The effect is closer to a considered piece of urban infrastructure than the anonymous commercial architecture that typically frames new hotel developments. Inside, the design concept draws on the industrial heritage of the area — the cranes, the gantries, the mechanics of a working east London that preceded the Olympic makeover. Guest rooms carry this through in steel-framed luggage trunks used as bed benches, film-reel wall art, cage-style pendant lights, and oxidised copper wall panels flanking the headboards. The bar and restaurant level deploys a more saturated palette: oxidised steel columns, herringbone oak flooring, and a cluster of velvet tub chairs in mustard, teal, and crimson arranged around brass-edged tables beneath exposed track lighting. The rooftop dining space, glazed and planted with tropical palms, adds a travertine host desk and curved banquette seating that shifts the register upward — a counterpoint to the industrial vocabulary below that gives the hotel's 292 rooms a genuine sense of range.

"Not a bad hotel but housekeeping standards are awful, last trip 2 weeks ago and shower was over flowing, removed the trap to find it thick with hair…moved rooms. This trip, bathroom is filthy, ominous stains on walls. Flagged to reception and nothing was done. Between that and the tepid temperature of the breakfast, head to Hyatt or The Stratford if you want something with standards."

"Hilton Gantry Stratford, London – Great Stay for ABBA Voyage & More I had a lovely stay at the Hilton Gantry Stratford. The hotel is gorgeous, and our room was really comfortable. It’s in a brilliant location for ABBA Voyage and has loads of shops, restaurants, bars, and transport options right on the doorstep. The cocktails and bar service were excellent, and there’s plenty of choice on-site with the coffee bar, the steak restaurant, Soul Mama, and Union Social. Union Social is great for a casual bite—food is decent, though breakfast is pretty basic. The staff were genuinely lovely throughout our stay. The manager was extremely kind and helpful when we had a small issue with the shower in our first room. The toiletries smell amazing, and once we were settled, the shower was fab. Overall, it’s a really nice hotel with everything you need nearby. I’d definitely recommend it and would happily stay again."

"Generally a good stay - first time at the Gantry but will return. Good location for tube /DLR into central London and parking at Westfield was super easy and much cheaper if pay via hotel. Breakfast was good - could add mushrooms and black pudding to buffet but otherwise great. First floor bar also good - didn’t try the restaurant on 1st floor but looked ok. Had dinner at STK - nice food and view but over priced for what it is. Only real downside to the hotel was very soft pillows which prevented a decent first night sleep. I did ask for firmer ones - which were promised - but sadly not delivered. Again requested firm pillows and this time two more pillows were delivered - but still very soft so second night was not great either. This is a shame as a good nights sleep is absolutely essential for any hotel (just ask Premier Inn). I will stay again (as generally very good) but if no improvement on pillows, will have to look somewhere else. I need my sleep !"

"Probably the best hotel we have ever stayed at in London. The girl on reception was very helpful and lovely. The room was great and the bathroom the best ever. I would say my only suggestion would be to improve the breakfast by adding mushrooms to the breakfast menu"
