PB hotel design editorial

Stratford's post-Olympic transformation produced some of London's more architecturally ambitious new builds, and the tower housing The Gantry London, Curio Collection by Hilton sits among them with genuine conviction. Designed by architects Darling Associates, the fourteen-storey bronze-clad structure deploys a rhythmic grid of vertical fins across its glazed facade — visible in the images catching afternoon light as the building turns a warm copper against the surrounding residential blocks of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park neighbourhood. The effect is closer to a considered piece of urban infrastructure than the anonymous commercial architecture that typically frames new hotel developments. Inside, the design concept draws on the industrial heritage of the area — the cranes, the gantries, the mechanics of a working east London that preceded the Olympic makeover. Guest rooms carry this through in steel-framed luggage trunks used as bed benches, film-reel wall art, cage-style pendant lights, and oxidised copper wall panels flanking the headboards. The bar and restaurant level deploys a more saturated palette: oxidised steel columns, herringbone oak flooring, and a cluster of velvet tub chairs in mustard, teal, and crimson arranged around brass-edged tables beneath exposed track lighting. The rooftop dining space, glazed and planted with tropical palms, adds a travertine host desk and curved banquette seating that shifts the register upward — a counterpoint to the industrial vocabulary below that gives the hotel's 292 rooms a genuine sense of range.

"Location - 5 mins walk to Stratford Int., 5 minutes walk to Westfield Shopping Centre. Speedy check in. Lovely room on 17th floor, with extensive rooms from floor to ceiling window. Very clean. Nicely decorated. lovely bathroom with large rainfall shower and lovely floor tiling. Robes & slippers. Comfy bed with good quality linen. Nespresso machine - great but would have liked to have more than 2 pods and to know which pods they were. Shame no water provided. Breakfast - very nice. Delicious omelettes and home made cakes made it special, but would have liked coffee served at the table. Overall really happy with my stay and will be back."

"Lovely hotel. Rooms are very clean, comfortable bed. My only gripe is no dressing table or chair in room to do your hair or makeup. No need to take shampoo or hairdryer as its all supplied for you. But the breakfast was awful 😖. The bacon to me was not bacon felt like it was steamed. All felt like it wasn't cooked. The scrambled egg wasn't cooked well. You needed to be 6 foot tall to help yourself. The bar and staff fantastic. Lovely part of London we went to see ABBA Voyage."

"Located next to the huge Westfield Shopping centre and close to the Olympic Park. A clean, safe area in suburbia. Regular trains into central London. The hotel is newish and modern. We had a king superior room which was ok. The bed was soft with squeaky springs. Modern bathroom with an easy shower. Reception area on ground floor always smelled of fried food from adjacent bar. Breakfast area was always busy with tables very close together. Average selection of food; the cooked breakfasts in the big metal chafing dishes were always cool; lukewarm at best. Prices vary; depending on demand. We definately paid too much for this average stay,"
