"We had a lovely stay and were impressed with the first class service from the moment we arrived. Valet parking was seamless, check in was smooth, and we were even offered a glass of Prosecco, which was a lovely touch. Our room was lovely, clean and comfortable, with no issues at all. The rooftop bar was a highlight, with great music and a lovely atmosphere. The drinks were okay, although perhaps a little underwhelming for the price and it shut early 12.30am would be better if you could still get a drink after that time The only downside for me was the pillows, which were very, very hard. My husband mentioned this at check out and the reception team were extremely apologetic. They explained that, as reception is open 24 hours, we could have called and they would have brought a softer pillow up to the room. So, if you prefer a softer pillow, definitely ask they were more than happy to help. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice, and checkout was just as smooth as checkin. Is it expensive for a room? Yes, I suppose it is. But is it worth it? Most definitely! We really enjoyed our stay and would happily return."

"We visited The Rex on 16th August for afternoon tea. I went with my friend and both of us turn 50 this month so wanted this to be a really special occasion. It absolutely didn't disappoint! The online booking form had asked if we were celebrating anything and staff had noted this and made us feel like royalty from the moment we arrived. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the room we were seated in was elegant and comfortable, with views over the city. The china was delicate and stunningly designed, with matching tea pots provded when we received our teas of choice. The tea selection was extensive and we were able to examine samples of the tea and even smell their aromas before making our selection. Hot water was later provided to top up our pots but we could also have ordered fresh pots or choose an alternative drink. The food was incredible to look at; every piece was a work of art. The taste completely lived up to the appearance. I appreciated the amount of food provided. It was perfect proportioned. We were then treated to a decorated plate spelling out the words 'Happy Birthday' with a chocolate each. What a lovely surprise! We were looked after by Vanessa who could not have been a better host. She is amazing at her job and made us feel extremely special. She suggested we might like to go up to the rooftop bar and we were so glad we did! Sam showed us the way and he took exceptional care of us, going the extra mile to get the ingredients for the cocktails we ordered. I would recommend a visit to the rooftop bar. There are three balconies looking out over the city and it is the perfect place for a relaxing drink. I felt compelled to write a review mainly because of the wonderful staff so thank you to Vanessa and Sam and everyone behind the scenes maing sure our afternoon was memorable for all the right reasons!"

"Now it’s become “ The Rex” sadly standards have defined rapidly. Apart from the helpful concierge most of the staff need lessons in customer service. Firstly when we checked in, yet again hammered us with a £100 fee for “ extras” I told then we don’t use mini bars or anything else bit apparently it’s hotel policy- as if we are going to steal a robe…. The Executive room I paid over £300 for 1 night was comfortable large, but the bathroom sink didn’t empty & the toilet blocked! We stayed over the weekend and had breakfast- what a complete joke this has become. A full English should be exactly that- all that was received was 1 tiny bit of bacon, small sausage and undercooked scrambled eggs- really disappointed. My wife ordered eggs Benedict and got a completely different meal. I had to chase my toast up 4 times and in the end received 2 small pieces. The server who I guessed was above the waitresses was useless. As she was too busy trying to look good then listening to what a customer was trying to order. The whole breakfast experience was dreadful, we have stayed quite a few times when it was The Gotham and everything was impeccable, but everything has slipped. This was meant to be a relaxing weekend away, but this stay tarnished it. This Hotel is no longer a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ hotel but more like a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ hotel now. Message to the owners- train your staff to be more customer focused. Improve your food service. Improve your chefs and overall don’t take your guests for granted. They pay you to enjoy their stay not to be insulted and leave disappointed."

"The Rex Hotel is a beautiful hotel. Its location, its rooms and its architecture cannot be compared anywhere in Manchester. In its rebrand from Hotel Gotham though it has suffered from a dose of style over substance. The beautiful deco artwork has been replaced by pictures of hastily photographed grinning models around the hotel. The staff uniforms look like they have been lifted out of a Genting casino, and the lobby toilets were in a disgusting state. The final word however was for the terrible service in the Reserve rooftop bar. We went in there on two separate occasions, and on both occasions there were less than 8 customers. Despite being table service, it took around 30 minutes to first chase down the wait staff and then chase down the drinks. By the time we were ready for the bill the bar was bereft of staff and we had to go down to reception to find someone to pay. We did mention this on check out, and to their credit a nice chap called Spike comped us a round of drinks. The website describes the Rex as “an exclusive retreat, shaped by indulgence, discretion and refined hospitality.” A bit pretentious given the terrible bar service and the foul toilets…."

"Went for Afternoon Tea yesterday. It is possibly the worst Afternoon Tea I have ever had. It was so overpriced for what was serviced. The 4 small sandwiches were so underwhelming, there was no luxury or imagination put into the thought behind the selection. For a hotel of a high standard it was incredibly disappointing and isn't an experience that I would recommend. There are other venues in and around Manchester that do it far better. Come on The Rex you need to up your standard. Very very disappointed customer."
