A Palladian manor house at the end of a one-mile beech-lined avenue, set within 500 acres of Wiltshire parkland just six miles from Bath — the building that became Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa was constructed around 1720 and extended in the early nineteenth century, its honey-coloured Bath stone facade carrying the characteristic proportions of the Georgian country house: symmetrical sash windows, a pedimented entrance portico, and chimney stacks rising from a hipped roofline. The approach alone, framed by mature beeches arching overhead, does more atmospheric work than most hotels manage with their entire interiors. Inside, the principal rooms maintain their Georgian bones — deep cornicing, plasterwork ceilings, tall shuttered windows that flood the dining room with parkland light — while the furnishings layer in a thoroughly traditional country house register: mahogany four-poster beds with barley-twist columns, swag-and-tail silk drapery, crystal chandeliers, and Regency-style occasional tables in the bedrooms; Chippendale-influenced dining chairs and gilt wall sconces in the restaurant. Outbuildings converted into courtyard rooms offer a different character altogether, with vaulted roof trusses, duck-egg painted walls, and mahogany sleigh beds beneath exposed beams. The spa addition, housed in a barrel-vaulted glass and timber structure, brings a quietly contemporary counterpoint — limestone pool surrounds, teak decking, and full-height glazing opening to the walled garden — without disturbing the Georgian composure of the main house.

"A very good stay in this country house hotel which offers comfortable and well appointed accommodation for adults (and dogs). Probably children, as well, but we were not travelling with them"

"We have just returned from a blissful Easter weekend at Lucknam Park, and having stayed at a fair number of stately home hotels near London, I can confidently say this is truly one of the very best. The house itself is spectacular, and we were delighted to be upgraded to a Junior Suite on arrival, which was stunning. The staff were exceptional throughout our stay; extremely attentive and friendly without ever being overbearing. There was a calm, unhurried atmosphere, and it genuinely felt as though the hotel is staffed properly, allowing the team to focus on delivering thoughtful, personalised service rather than operating in a stressed or reactive way. The grounds are magnificent. The horses are beautiful, and there is so much to explore with plenty of space to run or walk a good distance, which isn’t always the case with properties of this kind. The spa is also outstanding, and the restaurants were a real highlight. Even the Walled Garden Restaurant, while not Michelin‑starred, punches well above its weight and clearly reflects a very purposeful and considered design. We dined at Restaurant Hywel Jones on our second night, which felt particularly special. The interior (recently redesigned) is simply stunning, and the food was outstanding. My only small suggestion would be to dim the lighting slightly, which could elevate the atmosphere even further. One of the most memorable touches was returning to our room each evening to find Classic FM softly playing on the radio and peppermint tea laid out, a small but incredibly thoughtful gesture that made the stay feel truly personal. We would highly recommend Lucknam Park and very much hope to return."

"My family and our friend had a great time for the three nights stay in the coach house at Lucknam park. We went horse riding which was a beautiful experience for me and my 8 year old son. He also loved the archery lesson so much, he had a second one. Guest reservations coordintor Anna made everything so easy for us. She was very helpful, with good attention to detail. Everything in the cottage was prepared nicely for a comfortable stay. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. The food in the Walled Garden restaurant was tasty with original menus. The grounds were spectacular. We liked the children's area with the hideaway hut. We also liked the spa area."

"We stayed at Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa for two nights as a family with two children and had an outstanding experience. The arrival alone is spectacular. A nearly one-mile tree-lined driveway leads up to the manor house, with mature trees forming a canopy overhead and horses grazing in the surrounding meadows. The estate is expansive, impeccably maintained, and visually breathtaking — it feels far removed from everyday life. The manor house itself is magnificent and beautifully preserved. It genuinely feels like a privately inhabited English country residence rather than a hotel. The interiors are elegant and atmospheric, with curated paintings, classic furnishings, and refined architectural details throughout. Every area of the property — from the courtyard to the surrounding gardens — is meticulously manicured. Lucknam Park’s equestrian facilities are a wonderful addition and reinforce the authentic country estate character. The presence of stables and horses adds to the sense of place and makes the experience feel distinctly English. The spa facilities are modern and thoughtfully designed, with a beautiful pool, outdoor sections, and well-appointed treatment rooms that integrate seamlessly with the historic surroundings. Service throughout our stay was attentive, warm, and highly professional. The hotel staff were consistently welcoming and detail-oriented. We were also pleasantly surprised to receive an upgrade for one of our rooms, which was a thoughtful gesture and very much appreciated. Small details elevated the stay: excellent water pressure in the shower, high-quality bath products, thick pre-warmed towels, generous in-room amenities including still and sparkling water and tea, a welcoming bottle of champagne, and an evening turndown service that prepared the room beautifully for the night. The attention to detail was exceptional. If there is one minor area for improvement, it would be the breakfast service. While the food itself was excellent and beautifully presented, the fully à la carte format occasionally resulted in longer waiting times. A slightly more streamlined approach could enhance the experience further. Overall, Lucknam Park delivers a true five-star country house experience. The combination of estate setting, elegant interiors, equestrian character, excellent spa facilities, and attentive service makes it a highly memorable and recommendable stay."

"For a recent get-together with friends, I booked an equestrian experience at Lucknam Park and it was absolutely unforgettable. The horses were stunning and so gentle, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. As someone who hadn’t ridden in years (and was a little nervous!), I was immediately put at ease by the friendly, professional team and by the lovely horse I was paired with (I think her name was Delilah!). The scenery was breathtaking, especially riding through the open fields and up the grand driveway. From start to finish, it felt like such a special experience and one I won’t forget anytime soon. A huge thank you to the team for making the day so memorable. To top it all off, the spa was incredibly relaxing and exactly what was needed after being back in the saddle! And finishing at the Walled Garden with delicious food and such warm, welcoming staff was the perfect ending. We’ll definitely be back 💛"
