PB hotel design editorial

Built in the early eighteenth century from honey-coloured Yorkshire sandstone, the Grade II listed manor house at the heart of Grantley Hall carries the clean Baroque proportions of its era without apology — a pedimented central bow, ranks of sash windows, and a roofline punctuated by stone chimneys that reads with the same authority at dusk as it does in morning light. Set within 150 acres of North Yorkshire parkland between Ripon and the Dales, the house was transformed into a hotel following an extensive restoration completed in 2019, its formal parterre gardens redesigned with a contemporary rill and fountain that acknowledge the estate's geometry without mimicking its age. Inside, the interiors move between registers depending on the wing. The principal rooms of the original house — the dining room in particular — retain their elaborate plasterwork friezes, Corinthian pilasters, and brass chandelier fittings, furnished with scallop-backed velvet chairs and heavily draped silk curtains in the manner of a Colefax and Fowler country house commission. Guest rooms in the main house favour sage greens and warm stone tones, with shaped upholstered headboards and brass bedside fittings; those in the newer spa wing open into vaulted ceilings and barrel-arched atrium spaces whose limestone columns and groin-vaulted pool hall borrow the structural vocabulary of a Roman bath. Across its 47 rooms and suites, the property holds its formal bones and its contemporary ambitions in careful balance.

"Absolutely phenomenal experience. The grounds are absolutely stunning, the service I’ve never seen anything like it, the food 10/10. Everything is top tier. We were celebrating my mum finishing her chemotherapy and the staff went above any beyond sending out a special desert and writing her a card honestly it was so nice and so gratefully received. Staff are so lovely and attentive. Wonderful afternoon would sell a lung to stay here. They’ve absolutely nailed it. A must visit"

A beautiful setting stunning gardens with the most beautiful hall, 2 of us had had the champagne afternoon tea and the other 2 had classic tea, absolutely amazing food particularly enjoyed the oak smoked salmon quails egg and pickled shallots and the spring allium taco was amazing! "Grantley Hall was an absolutely stunning choice for a birthday celebration and delivered a truly luxurious experience from the moment we arrived. First impressions were exceptional. The entrance is breathtaking, with beautiful grounds, valet parking, and an immediate sense that no detail has been overlooked. Every decorative feature throughout the hotel feels carefully considered, creating an atmosphere of elegance and luxury at every turn. Our room was simply stunning — beautifully designed, luxurious, and exactly what you’d hope for from such a prestigious hotel. The same can be said for the spa, which was absolutely gorgeous. The facilities were exceptional, and the massages were incredible — one of the real highlights of the entire stay and the perfect birthday treat. Dinner was very enjoyable overall, though not entirely flawless. One soufflé was cooked perfectly and was absolutely delicious, while the other was unfortunately burnt. The fillet steaks were also slightly overcooked. While these were small disappointments, they didn’t take too much away from what was otherwise a lovely dining experience in a truly beautiful setting. Breakfast the following morning was superb. Sitting outside in the sunshine within the lovely courtyard made for a particularly memorable experience, and the breakfast itself was excellent — a wonderful way to round off the stay. One final touch that really stood out was on departure, when we were given thoughtful gift bags containing water and chocolate for the journey home. It was such a lovely, polished gesture and perfectly summed up the level of care and attention Grantley Hall clearly puts into the guest experience. Overall, Grantley Hall feels incredibly special — stunning surroundings, luxurious rooms, an exceptional spa, and thoughtful details throughout. While dinner had a couple of minor flaws, the overall experience was elegant, memorable, and felt like a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion."
