PB hotel design editorial

Strung along a private arc of white sand on Fiji's Coral Coast, where dense jungle presses down from volcanic hills to meet the Pacific, Nanuku Resort arranges its thatched bure-style villas in a loose procession that mirrors the curve of the bay rather than imposing any formal geometry upon it. The aerial view reveals the thinking immediately: low-slung structures with steeply pitched grass roofs sit beneath coconut palms at roughly the same height, the whole compound dissolving into the treeline rather than announcing itself as destination architecture. It is a deliberate calibration, one that draws on traditional Fijian building vernacular while accommodating the expectations of an Auberge Resorts property. Inside, the interiors navigate the same productive tension between vernacular warmth and refined comfort. Exposed timber trusses wrap the vaulted ceiling joinery in woven textile detailing with clear reference to tapa craft traditions, while the furniture below — dark-stained four-poster beds with cane footboards, striped upholstered headboards, wicker lounge chairs on timber-decked verandas — settles the palette into a quiet sequence of aquamarine, sand, and ebony. The restaurant opens its full glazed wall to the lawn and sea beyond, round stone-topped tables paired with slatted timber chairs giving the dining room the atmosphere of an indoor-outdoor pavilion rather than a formal hotel restaurant. At the infinity pool, a thatched meditation gazebo fitted with a suspended rattan cocoon chair completes the picture at dusk, lanterns glowing against the purple Fijian sky.

"I celebrated a big wedding anniversary at Nanuku, and it was great. The staff members were exceptionally welcoming, always smiling and saying “Bula! Bula!”. They helped with anything we needed. I had never snorkeled before, and I thought it might be a little difficult to breathe through a tube. It wasn’t hard and it was my favorite experience there. With a life vest, it was easy to relax and float around the coral, watching bright, beautiful fish. I even saw a lionfish. Although the forecast predicted rain every day, the weather turned out to be wonderful; it only rained once during the week. We learned that forecasts in Fiji often overpredict rain, so the actual weather will likely be better than forecasts. Our residence was luxurious, with beautiful views and nice furniture. The meal plan for our eight day stay was a treat, because I didn’t have to think about the cost of each menu item when I was there. The fine dining dishes, like paka paka and the crab omelette, were some of my favorites, though overall there was more food than I could eat. We also enjoyed several guided excursions, and the longboat excursion with a waterfall hike was my favorite. Nanuku was a beautiful resort with very hospitable hosts and fun activities. The flight from LA to Fiji is long, but I will probably do it again someday."

"From the moment we arrived at Nanuku Resort Fiji, we knew this place was special. The authentic Fijian welcome was warm, heartfelt, and instantly made us feel like family. That genuine hospitality stayed with us throughout our entire stay. The resort is clean with lush gardens everywhere. The villas are beautifully spacious, peaceful, and luxurious, and having a private pool felt like absolute bliss. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered—from the room amenities to the incredible care shown by every staff member. You can truly feel the pride and love they put into what they do. A special mention to the amazing executive team who are always mingling with guests—Tomasi (GM), Vuli (RM), and the wonderful Kelly and Jennifer from Sales, who consistently went above and beyond to make sure guests were well cared for. The food was unforgettable—not only incredibly delicious but presented like art. Every meal felt like a special experience. A heartfelt thank you to the Chef and Vasemaca for creating such outstanding dining moments. The highlight of pure relaxation was my massage by Tela—absolutely amazing and hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. The private island picnic at Nanuku Island is a must‑do. Soft white sand, pristine waters, and fantastic snorkeling made it an unforgettable experience. The Fijian cooking class was also a highlight and so much fun. Nanuku isn’t just a resort—it’s an experience that truly touches your heart. Definitely value to money. Highly recommended to anyone seeking a meaningful, luxurious, and truly authentic Fijian holiday. Can’t wait to return."

"We just got back from Nanuku and are so sad to have left. Even with 1/2 week of rain, it was a spectacular experience. The resort is absolutely beautiful, but what sets it apart is the truly spectacular service. More than any other resort that we have visited, we felt that the staff truly knew us and was focused on ensuring we had a spectacular time. My kids (13 and 10) particularly loved the resort. While we spent most of our time as a family, the kids did love their buddy (Esta) and made friends with other similarly aged kids while doing activities and playing in the pool. My kids never want to go to “kids’ clubs” so the fact that they joined in and participated is a testament to how well done these services are at Nunuku. They particularly loved getting to carve their own wooden swords, learning to make kokonda, and hanging out in the pool. My youngest also got a big kick out of the fact that the bartender named a mocktail after him and posted it on the board for the day. As a family, we enjoyed a number of the resort’s excursions - including the island hopping experience and the food safari and lovo. The staff was informative and shared interesting insights into the country and culture. My spouse and I took advantage of the spa amenities and did the 3 hour couples spa experience. It was wonderful - but make sure you book ahead. The spa is small and books up quickly.share"

"A lovely quiet establishment and the quality of their suites is fantastic. Great a/c, indulgent bathrooms, good bed, excellent living room and a short stroll down to the dining area and main pool and beach. The location of the hotel is good and the staff were all lovely. Food quality high and the small beach was spotless and a few steps from our suite. We really enjoyed our stay and this place gave us our best overall accommodation during our six week around the world trip. Hire a car like we did and self drive around the island as Fiji is so much more then resorts and tourists."

"This is a great family friendly resort with an amazing kids clubs and nice gym, beautiful pool, private jacuzzi. Amazing rooms and a good amount of activities, specially by the river. It was our 3rd time in Fiji but always did small resorts on small Islands, this was our first time on the main Island and we loved our stay at Nanuku"
