PB hotel design editorial

Perched on the Montagne de Reims above the UNESCO-listed Champagne vineyards of Champillon, with the Marne valley unfolding in every direction below, the Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa was rebuilt and reopened in 2018 on the foundations of an eighteenth-century coaching inn that once served the postal road between Paris and Reims. The new low-rise structure, designed by local architectural practice Patriarche, steps along the hillside in pale limestone and timber-screened volumes, its horizontal layering calibrated to hold the panorama rather than compete with it. Interiors were handled by the Paris studio of Jean-Michel Wilmotte, who anchored the 49 rooms and suites in a palette drawn directly from the landscape outside — warm tawny golds, chalky whites, and vine-row greens translated into large-scale botanical wallcoverings, oak parquet floors, and brass disc wall sculptures clustered in constellations above upholstered wingback chairs. The dining room carries the most theatrical gesture in the building: a canopy of Baccarat-style crystal chandeliers suspended over herringbone parquet and plum velvet armchairs, a mural of equestrian figures lending the room a faint Napoleonic charge appropriate to this corridor of French imperial history. From the infinity pool, the Marne valley stretches toward Épernay in a sweep of chalky soil and regimented vines that makes the view itself feel like the main amenity — one the building, wisely, does very little to interrupt.

Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa Reviews

603 reviews

"With panoramic views over the Champagne vineyards, it is easy to love staying at this fabulous hotel. Each time we visit seems better than the last with the striking architecture of the visionary Royal Champagne and Spa justifying the stunning views of the Marne Valley, in Champillon just above Epernay. What sets this hotel apart is the exceptional service. Everyone working there gave the easy impression that nothing was ever too much trouble. Special mention should go to Thomas, Sarah, Clairmont, Julie on reception and Stephanie who all helped make our stay utterly memorable with their warmth and professionalism. Rooms were immaculate and stylish and, comfortable and easy to enjoy."

"From the moment we arrived, we were blown away. Check‑in felt more like a welcome ceremony — we were ushered to a cozy couch, handed glasses of champagne, and taken care of while everything was handled for us. Our room was absolutely incredible. The view, the deck, the soaring ceilings, the bathroom — every detail of this junior suite was spectacular. Room 18, in particular, felt wonderfully private. We were also surprised with champagne and treats for our anniversary, which made the stay feel even more special. The hotel recommended outstanding tasting experiences and Michelin‑starred restaurants, and the entire experience was exceptional. The only real challenge was getting to Reims. That first night, the trip from the hotel cost us over €100 one way — not exactly ideal. But after that, we had no trouble getting Ubers at all.(still costly as we went each day) Other reviews mentioned cancellations or no pickups, but that wasn’t our experience. In hindsight, we wish we had tried Uber from the start. The resort itself is highly recommended, and definitely rent the e‑bikes. They were fantastic — we followed the path down to the little villages below, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our stay."
