PB hotel design editorial

At the upper edge of Courchevel 1850, where the piste des Verdons delivers skiers almost directly to the door, a seven-storey tower clad in aged timber and pale render holds its own against the extravagance of the surrounding resort. Aman Le Melezin opened in 1999 as Aman Resorts' first European property, a quietly radical proposition in a village that prizes spectacle — the group bringing its signature restraint to the Alps rather than the tropics. The building's exterior references Savoyard vernacular through its stacked balconies and steep-hipped roof weighted with snow, without tipping into pastiche. Inside, the interiors were conceived by Studio Bergoend, whose approach runs consistently through the 31 rooms and suites: honey-toned oak panelling worked into geometric lattice screens, deep-pile stone-coloured carpeting, and upholstered Louis XV-style benches that anchor the rooms in a French alpine tradition rather than any imported aesthetic. The bar and lounge lean into a hunting-lodge warmth — forest-green velvet sofas facing a stone fireplace, barley-twist chairs drawn around a chessboard, the back bar glowing through a grid of dark timber shelves. The restaurant continues this compressed vocabulary, its panelled walls hung with Alpine landscape paintings, candlelight thrown across walnut tables set with matte ceramic plates. What distinguishes the property across twenty-five years is its consistency: Aman's characteristic hush translating into French mountain architecture without dilution.

Aman Le Mélézin Reviews

"Aman Le Mélézin is a very elegant and pleasant hotel in a beautiful setting. The staff are a real highlight. Service throughout the stay felt warm, attentive, and professional, and very much in line with what one expects from the Aman brand. Overall, the experience was very enjoyable. One area that felt slightly underwhelming, however, was the spa. While the facilities are nice, they are relatively limited, consisting mainly of two saunas and a pool. During the stay, the spa area felt quite informal, with little visible staff presence to guide guests or clarify how the space is intended to be used. At times, this affected the calm and relaxing atmosphere one would normally expect at this level. That said, Aman Le Mélézin remains a lovely hotel with excellent service and a refined atmosphere. With a bit more structure and guidance in the spa area, the experience could feel even more complete."

"This is a special place. Having visited many AMAN properties already, this one surprised us, but in a very positive way. Here some highlights: - Intimacy: This is a small property, yet it feels very cosy and intimate; the atmosphere comes very close to visiting friends in their exclusive private Chalet - Room: We staid in a very cosy Chambre Ski Piste with Hot Tub; the views of the Bellecote piste from our Norwegian hot tub were mesmerising - Service: The team was very warm and provided outstanding service; concierge was very responsive and provided great tips and secured all reservations we requested; also, we received the best turndown gifts ever (won't spoil what it was) - Spa: Small, yet beautifully designed; it felt very private as their were mostly no other guests by the pool or in the sauna / hammam area - Food: The room rates include half board, while restaurants in the partner hotel Les Airelles are also included; this provided great variation and we were able to enjoy different cuisines of highest quality Overall a great stay and we will definitely come back."

"Wonderful Japanese-like design, high level materials, very clean. Beautiful rooms. Superb service. Ski room service like no other. Real ski-in ski-out. Easy access at a walking distance from the town's main street."

"Simply fantastic! A family holiday with 2 kids 9 and 5yrs. We were made to feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The service was excellent in every way. The ski butlers were very kind and extremely knowledgeable, the kids club was so good that the kids wanted to go all time time! It is a small kids club but has great staff and activities - I was also told you can use the larger kids club at the sister hotel too but we had no need. There is a good choice of restaurants to choose from as you have both the Aman and the Airelles sister hotel to choose from along with some on the slopes too. The ski in/out was seamless and the rooms were very nice and a great size. We are already booked to come back for the 2023 season!"
