PB hotel design editorial

Scattered across a pine-forested flank of Courchevel 1850 like an alpine village caught mid-drift, the cluster of chalet-form structures that make up Le K2 Palace deliberately resist reading as a single hotel building — the pitched roofs, weathered larch cladding, and deep-overhang balconies from the exterior images suggest a hamlet assembled over generations rather than a purpose-built five-star property opened in 2012. The design strategy, overseen by interior designer Sybille de Margerie, was to push the Savoyard vernacular toward something more theatrical without losing its material grounding: local stone, bleached timber, and hand-forged ironwork set against a palette of graphite, mink, and cream. Inside, de Margerie's touch moves confidently between registers. The bar is anchored by an illuminated raw-stone counter face, its rough-hewn surface set against whitewashed structural beams and fur-upholstered club sofas — the atmosphere closer to a private ski lodge than a hotel lounge. Guest rooms extend the same silvered-wood vocabulary across ceilings and panelling, the restraint occasionally punctuated by bursts of lacquered crimson: scarlet ottoman benches against grey faux-fur armchairs in the suite configurations, red lamp shades throwing warm light against quilted headboards. The spa, among the most architecturally considered spaces in the property, arranges a free-form pool beneath vaulted beamed ceilings with stacked-slate columns rising from the water — mountain panoramas projected or framed through low windows just above the snowline.

"Le K2 Palace is singularly the BEST hotel in Courchevel. To be clear I would say one of the top hotels in the world. Those who have stayed in the world’s best hotels will be surprised that Le K2 Palace outshines in subtle ways that make you wonder how a hotel can be so perfect. The attention to detail in the design of the hotel is without words. One becomes accustomed to great service but service with consideration and compassion is exemplified at Le K2. We stayed for 5 nights and every single day was an absolute pleasure, the staff, the valets, the ski staff all exceeded every expectation a guest could ask for. Dining at the hotel was another big win. The food was exceptional, with service just as impressive as everywhere else in the hotel. A phenomenal hotel worthy of its 3 Michelin keys. Expect sophisticated and refined service with well mannered guests who appreciate Le K2 Palace. Absolute perfection."

"This hotel is in its own class and 5 stars is under rating it. The website pictures created an anticipation of a child on Christmas morning. Upon arrival to the hotel I immediately knew the pictures did not do it justice. We arrived at the hotel and were met by a team that was phenomenal. We already got a glimpse of that dealing with the concierge team who arranged our transportation from Geneva which was perfectly executed. The lobby is breath taking and the falling snow only made it better. We were brought to our room and every last detail was thoughtfully designed. The room was stunning and several times larger than what is “normal” in Europe. There is nothing “normal” about this hotel. There was a gigantic balcony over looking the French alps. More storage than anyone could ever need. Two safes and one fit for crown jewels if you happen to need that level of security. A welcome bottle of champagne and every amenity a hotel could offer. The early checkin was great and as it was booked through Amex this hotel is part of the fine hotel and resorts program so it has benefits galore. We went to have breakfast and the room was breath taking. A buffet fit for a king over looking snow capped mountains. The waitstaff was A++ all week. The French toast complete with the K2 logo was incredible. We were now ready to ski. I am self sufficient and have all my own gear but decided to rent skis as the ski shop seemed to have everything anyone could need. Unfortunately, they did not have my preferred skis. That was quickly remedied and had brand new skis to my exact specifications within the hour. The entire staff at the ski shop is providing service that is unparalleled anywhere. The hotel is ski in and ski out right from the ski shop. Coffee, hot chocolate, treats for all. They are literally spoiling you with a capital S. After skiing we went to the spa where the luxury is on full display. This hotel has just 30 rooms and a handful of chalets and we had hours of time without seeing another person. There are two out door hot tubs over looking the mountain but the five feet of snow was hiding the view a bit. Indoor soaking tubs and a cold plunge spa, steam room, sauna, heated indoor pool all crystal clean and designed by a world class architect I am sure. The bar was a scene out of a movie with bartenders putting on a show that was spectacular. The dj was playing your favorite songs and the vibe was 10/10. The bellmen and drivers were also just really helpful. The hotel connects to you by whatsapp and whatever you need, want or desire, they respond and make it happen. Finally, its the people that make a hotel great. Whomever is hiring and training this staff is doing an excellent job. The entire staff from top to bottom can only be described as world class."

"The rooms are very spacious, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. The entire team — reception, concierge, and housekeeping — is flawless: professional, attentive, and consistently efficient. The ski room is outstanding, with top-quality equipment and a highly efficient, caring staff. The restaurants and the bar are also very good, maintaining a high standard throughout. The in-house transportation service within Courchevel 1850 works extremely well and is a real convenience. It is an expensive hotel, but absolutely worth what it charges."

"Mesmerizing experience Our stay at Le K2 Palace was truly exceptional and unforgettable, especially as a family. The chalet is absolutely stunning — beautifully designed, warm, and refined, with a sense of privacy that is perfect for families. It feels like a luxurious mountain home, while still being seamlessly connected to all the hotel’s facilities, which made everything incredibly convenient, especially with children. A heartfelt thank you to our butler, who was outstanding throughout our stay. Always professional, discreet, and incredibly attentive, with a wonderful understanding of family needs. Every detail was handled effortlessly, making our stay smooth and stress-free. The concierge team deserves special recognition. They were exceptional with our children — kind, patient, and extremely efficient. From organizing family-friendly activities to adjusting plans at the last minute, they made sure everyone, adults and children alike, felt happy and well taken care of. Le K2 Palace perfectly balances refined luxury with genuine warmth and family comfort. It is rare to find a hotel that offers this level of elegance while being so welcoming to families. We created beautiful memories here and are already looking forward to returning. Highly recommended for families seeking top luxury exceptional service in Courchevel."
