PB hotel design editorial

Right on the piste at Courchevel 1850, where the Bellecôte run delivers skiers almost directly to the front entrance, Le Strato was conceived from the outset as a private chalet writ large — a five-floor building clad in aged larch and rendered plaster whose traditional Savoyard massing conceals a thoroughly contemporary interior. The property carries around twenty-two rooms and suites, each finished by interior designer Christophe Tollemer in a palette that refuses the usual rustic register of the Alps entirely. The rooms layer oak flooring, deep-pile grey shag rugs, and upholstered headboards in tobacco-toned leather against walls dressed in crocodile-embossed wallcovering, with scarlet armchairs providing the only sharp chromatic note — a decision that feels closer to a well-appointed Parisian apartment than a mountain lodge. The restaurant pushes the contrast further: tall wing-backed chairs in violet and mauve surround white-clothed tables beneath a circular trompe-l'oeil ceiling fresco that references Baroque ceiling painting, backlit and slightly surreal against the pine-framed windows giving onto the snow. The indoor pool takes an equally theatrical approach, hung with large-format monochrome canvases of Baroque figural scenes and a wrought-iron chandelier, dark slate tiling absorbing the ambient light while the water glows blue beneath. Throughout, the art program sustains an unexpected dialogue between alpine shelter and European classical culture that gives the hotel its particular character.

"Terrible experiance. stayed here again repeat after last year (2024) and will NEVER stay here again.the GM is curt and rude. The front desk keeps changing and confused. The spa was terrible. They had kids running wild with no lifeguard on duty. The breakfast was erratic on service. The concierge messed up our reservation so we had to scramble last minute for lunch on the slopes. Just a total waste of money. Only saving grace was the fee old staff like Nicolas in the ski room or some F&B staff. Cannot call this a 5 star !"

"Our family of four stayed at Le Strato, Courchevel 1850, France over the 2024/25 Christmas and New Year’s holidays for a total of 11-nights. The moment we set foot in the lobby of the hotel we were greeted by a warm, courteous, welcoming staff that made us feel as if we were longtime friends. Every person we came in contact with at the hotel was the epitome of professionalism, and there was a sincere friendliness from everyone that made us feel part of the Le Strato family. We especially want to single out Pierre our concierge who was by far the best concierge we have encountered in our many travels. Whatever we needed he accommodated us. From shuttle-service, to confirming driver arrival times for our excursions, to lunch reservations in town, or changes to existing dinner reservations in the hotel, he made it all happen with a smile, and a “can do” attitude. He was personable, professional, yet friendly in a very genuine manner. Our family cannot say enough good things about Pierre. Finally, we want to commend the restaurant manager, Jalen who was also professional, friendly, and accommodating. He always made us feel welcome, and special as we entered the restaurant for breakfast, or dinner. The Le Strato management deserves high praise for their entire team, and the care given to guests. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay than they provided our family."

"We had a wonderful stay here. The staff could not do enough for you. Everything was taken care of. From unpacking your car and bringing your bags to the room to sorting out your reservations (I would suggest to make your reservations in advance. As we visited in high season some of the places we had in mind were already full and we couldn’t get in). They took us to and from the town whenever we wanted. Even greeted us with our jackets after dinner in town to bring us back. The service is truly above and beyond. Ski room is wonderful, they take care of everything. They even help you with your equipment, ski passes and greet you with warm crepes after a long day of skiing. Restaurant is wonderful. Every dish on the menu we had was great. They even offered to make an off the menu item for my husband which was incredibly nice and tasted great. Breakfast selection isn’t large, however everything they have is extremely delicious. Definitely recommend ordering from the menu as well. Had the best French toast I’ve ever had here. Room was gorgeous and comfortable with everything you need. Closet was spacious which with the amount of gear needed for skiing was definitely a bonus."

"This was our first trip to Courchevel and we had an amazing experience thanks to the whole team at Strato. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a luxury ski holiday. - Location: Strato is very well located with ski in ski out access and amazing view of the mountains. The location is also more quiet than the village however extremely convenient to move around thanks to the complimentary shuttle cars. - Ski room: I'm beginner however had an amazing experience thanks to the whole team at the BO ski room, it's a truly luxury experience and always great to chat with the team before and after ski. - Spa: Strato has a pretty large spa compared to the size of the hotel, the pool is very nice and has great view of the snow mountain. - Service: This is where Strato truly stands out. We have stayed in many luxury hotels around the world however Pierre is by far THE BEST concierge I have ever come across. The pre arrival arrangements were extremely helpful and Pierre knows everything about Courchevel inside out, and always happy to help. Our stay could not have been as good without Pierre. Thank you Pierre and the whole team for the amazing stay. We will be back soon."
