PB hotel design editorial

At the summit of Courchevel 1850, where the pistes converge and the Alpine light has a particular quality of sharpness and clarity, a chalet-form building conceived by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte establishes L'Apogée Courchevel as something closer to a private mountain residence than a conventional ski hotel. Wilmotte's exterior respects the vernacular massing of high-altitude Savoyard construction — timber cladding, pitched roof planes, stone base — while the interiors, also shaped by his studio, push toward a refined severity that keeps ornamentation at a minimum without sacrificing warmth. Inside, the palette runs to deep charcoals, warm taupes, and the natural grain of aged oak, with fur throws and hand-stitched leather details anchoring the rooms in tactile comfort rather than decorative display. The 21 rooms and suites are proportioned generously, many with private balconies aligned to the mountain views, fireplaces positioned as the spatial centre of each space rather than as afterthoughts. The Oetker Collection's stewardship — the same group behind Le Bristol Paris and Brenners Park-Hotel in Baden-Baden — brings a consistency of craft to the property, visible in the hand-selected materials and the restraint that governs every surface. Opening in 2013, the hotel carries the atmosphere of somewhere assembled over decades rather than conceived in a single brief, which is precisely the effect Wilmotte was working toward.

L’Apogée Courchevel, an Oetker Collection Hotel Reviews

"Now I understand what the "Palace" rating is in France! L'Apogee was a Palace and among the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The rooms were exquisite, high quality in every respect. We had a junior suite and it was large with well appointed furniture and bedding. At night, they would leave a gift for us on the bed (from puffy under-jackets to ski sox and head gear). All of the supplies in the bar/fridge are complimentary. The location was super, ski in/ski out with your ski's ready to go outside with your room # post next to them. Though it was a 5 min ride to town, they had complimentary shuttles to or you can take the short gondola ride down. On top of this, the hotel staff were exceptional, made you feel at home and so welcome! Everyone know our name (we stayed for 7 nights) and were always helping to make dinner reservations or put our ski boots on or take them off after a day of skiing with a glass of wine or hot coffee or cocoa. At first it was embarrassing but then my wife and I got used to it. Only improvement area would be to make the lunches more varied and reasonably priced. We understand it's a luxury hotel at $3-$4k/night but don't need to charge $65 Euros for a burger. If you like luxury and want to be pampered, there are few better hotels to stay at, not only in Courchevel but anywhere in the world!"

"The hotel is OK it’s the worst experience as a charming hotel. The service is terrible. The Concierge is the worst you can have and the shuttle service is the critical thing of the hotel. They don’t know how to be a five star hotel. They don’t know how to act they don’t know how to treat the clients."

"This hotel offers the best experience possible in a town already know for upscale experiences. I came to Courchevel to relax and ski instead of shop and party, and found just what I was looking for here, and so much more. Warm staff, everyone greeting me by name, no request was denied, food superior, and most importantly, comfortable, well designed suites. I loved having two bathrooms and two separate closets so my partner and I didn’t have to share, and there was more than enough storage space for clothes and luggage, especially since ski trips we tend to pack heavy. My only suggestion would be to increase the number of shuttles, at night it becomes a bit competitive to get a ride home and the line is often busy which was annoying, albeit more than understandable. I am not sure if I will ever be back in Courchevel, but if I am, I would return here and go nowhere else."
