Five generations of the same family have shaped Le Vieux Logis in Trémolat, and that continuity is written into every corner of this ivy-draped 17th-century Périgord farmstead — which is less a hotel than a family home that gradually absorbed its outbuildings, tobacco-drying barns, and garden pavilions into a twenty-four-room property over the course of a century. The limestone façade, thick with Virginia creeper and framed by pleached trees, carries the relaxed authority of a building that was never designed to impress anyone passing on the road. Gravel paths describe gentle curves through the parterre, wrought-iron garden furniture arranged in the shade with the informality of a family lunch rather than a hotel terrace. Inside, the interiors move between registers with the ease of a house that has simply accumulated character: striped upholstered headboards set into painted alcoves, floral cotton curtains in the manner of Jouy de Vichy, terracotta-tiled floors in the brighter cottage rooms offset by kilim runners and red ceramic lamp bases.
