PB hotel design editorial

With Mont Blanc filling the horizon beyond its snow-laden roofline, L'Alpaga sits within the Villaret hamlet of Megève as a cluster of traditional Savoyard chalets whose weathered larch cladding and deep-pitched roofs make the ensemble feel less like a hotel than a small alpine village that happened to acquire exceptionally good taste. The property, developed by the Sibuet family — the same force behind Les Fermes de Marie and other Megève institutions — draws its architectural identity from local vernacular construction: heavy timber post-and-beam frames, exposed structural columns hung with antique cow bells, and interiors lined in pale unfinished spruce that smells faintly of resin even in midwinter. The interior approach layers mid-century furniture — a curved leather wingback chair with bentwood arms, plywood dining chairs in the spirit of Charlotte Perriand's alpine work — against rough-hewn stone hearths and jute rugs, the whole palette held in amber, tobacco, and linen. Bedrooms punctuate the blondness of spruce-boarded walls with deep forest-green buttoned velvet headboards and globe pendant lights on braided cord, a contrast that feels considered rather than decorative. The restaurant shifts the register toward darkened oak, black granite table tops, rush-seated chairs, and dried allium arrangements in speckled ceramic vessels — the atmosphere of a Savoyard farmhouse that has quietly absorbed a generation of good Parisian design thinking.

"I’ve just returned from a truly wonderful stay at L’Alpaga, part of the Beaumier collection, and it is every bit as special as its description suggests. Nestled just outside the centre of Megève, with its beautiful hamlet of chalets gazing towards Mont Blanc, L’Alpaga offers what can only be described as a complete Alpine immersion. It perfectly balances tradition, a strong sense of place and modern refinement — yet what makes it so memorable is the feeling it gives you. Although this is a five-star hotel, it never once feels stuffy or overly formal. Instead, it feels warm, relaxed and genuinely welcoming — more like staying in a very elegant home. The team’s smart yet casual uniforms set the tone immediately, creating an atmosphere that is polished but wonderfully comfortable. Being slightly outside the town centre only adds to its charm. The peaceful setting makes it deeply relaxing, while the excellent shuttle service means you are always effortlessly connected to Megève when you wish to explore. What truly sets L’Alpaga apart, however, is its people. Manon, Front Office Manager, did everything possible to ensure we had a perfect stay, supported by Héloïse and Justine, whose care and professionalism never went unnoticed. At reception, Vassilis, Lia and Joumen welcomed us with such warmth each day and ensured we wanted for nothing. Patrick in the restaurant was incredibly helpful with recommendations, and Hélène took real time and care helping us find wonderful après-ski spots and beautiful walks. One particular recommendation turned out to be a red route hike — something we would never have imagined attempting (and, had we known, we might not have!). Yet we did it… even in a complete white-out, laughing all the way, and it has become one of our favourite memories of the trip. Heidi, who practised her English with us, was absolutely delightful and so charming. Each evening Hugo, the barman, and Ambre in the bar welcomed us back with warmth and great humour. The shuttle drivers — Julien, Olivier, Baptiste and Kylian — were unfailingly kind, always delivering us as close as possible to each restaurant and collecting us with smiles. Every member of staff contributed to making our stay feel thoughtful, personal and genuinely welcoming. It is rare to find service that feels both highly professional and so naturally warm. L’Alpaga is a place to rest, explore, reconnect with nature and, quite simply, feel at home. A truly exceptional hotel and a credit to the Beaumier collection. We left feeling restored, inspired and already looking forward to returning."

"I chose this hotel as we had stayed at another Baumier hotel and loved the vibe. My friend and I were on a 4 night apres ski trip. L'Alpaga was a treat and absolutely perfect. It ooozes alpine style and comfort. Wonderful staff who can never do enough for you. It's like it's only hamlet, situated in a little lane a 5 minute drive from the Megeve centre. The hotel has a reliable shuttle running every 30 minutes which works perfectly. The rooms are comfy with mountain views. There's a spa, indoor and outdoor pool, hot tub and sauna. What's not to like. The breakfast is amazing and really sets you up for the day. Eggs that taste like eggs. And the most amazing chocolate and hazel nut cookies. Pop one in your bag for later up the mountain. Helene who works at breakfast was so helpful. She would draw us little maps each morning with suggestions of where to hike on the mountain. Her walks really made our little holiday amazing. I can't wait to go back"
