PB hotel design editorial

Facing the Casino de Monte-Carlo across Place du Casino, a Belle Époque palace conceived by architect Dutrou and inaugurated in 1864 has been receiving crowned heads, racing drivers, and film stars long enough to have become inseparable from Monaco's own mythology. Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo is that building — its white stucco facade layered with cartouches, wreathed pilasters, and wrought-iron balconies that announce Beaux-Arts ambition at full volume, the porte-cochère framed by polished granite columns beneath a glass canopy that catches the Côte d'Azur light. A major restoration completed in 2019 brought the property to 210 rooms and suites across a rebuilt north wing, the work carried out while keeping half the hotel continuously in operation — an engineering and logistical feat as demanding as any architectural one. Inside, the contrast between old and new is handled with considerable intelligence. The restaurant Le Louis XV — Alain Ducasse, with its oval ceiling of gilded plasterwork, painted medallions, and a cascading crystal chandelier, survives intact as one of the great dining rooms of Europe, exactly the kind of room that reminds you why the Belle Époque invented the grand hotel in the first place. Guest rooms, refreshed during the restoration, balance herringbone oak floors and white boiserie panelling with contemporary upholstered furniture in warm taupe and sand, the ironwork balconies framing either the Place du Casino or, from the spa terrace, the full sweep of Port Hercule and the Ligurian mountains behind.

"I stayed at Hotel de Paris for a night, the day after the F1 race, for which I had gone. Probably one of the most iconic hotels to ever exist, nestled on the famous Casino Square, the belle epoque design itself welcomes you in a grand manner. Upon entering, the kind bellhop (not good at remembering names), immediately gave me a glass of water upon seeing me come in tired and sweaty (I had walked all the way from the train station {from Nice} carrying my massive piece of luggage). After that I feasted my eyes upon the absolutely brilliant lobby, with an even more brilliant chandelier hanging by the dome. While my room was getting ready, I was handed a temporary key card to access the spa and swimming pool. The pool on the terrace had a stellar view of the harbour. The lady receptionist (forgot her name) was very kind; I asked her if she could arrange for the Hello Monaco magazine to be sent to my room (read about it on Instagram), and when the room was ready, the magazine was lying there impeccably. so- hats off to the small things as well. I paid a visit to the grand ballroom in the hotel, and was just blown away. Coming from nobility in Hyderabad, India, I have visited palaces and palace hotels in the city, but the grandness of the ballroom in Hotel de Paris is second to none. Safe to say! The room was brilliant, and well sized, with a good view of the harbour from the balcony. The indoor swimming pool was also brilliant. Had fresh salt water in it. So the swim was unique. The jacuzzi outside was also amazing. The indoor pool is common between Hotel de Paris and Hotel Hermitage, where I actually stayed the next day, and yes, that was also a 10/10 brilliant bell epoque hotel (wait for my next review!) Unfortunately my pictures aren't the best, as I have captured most of my moments via video. I will upload what I can! All in all, I'm glad I pampered myself in pure luxury, and I will visit again, when I go to Monaco, next!"

"From the moment I arrived, I knew this stay was going to be something special. The service throughout the hotel was absolutely flawless, almost all the staff was warm, professional, and genuinely made me feel welcome. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and the attention to detail was exceptional. The room was stunning, beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and incredibly comfortable. Waking up in the heart of Monte Carlo with everything right on the doorstep was an experience I'll never forget. The location really doesn't get any better. One of the things that impressed me most was how the hotel manages to feel both grand and elegant while still being relaxed and inviting. Every part of the property is maintained exceptionally well, and you can really feel the history and prestige. This was one of the best luxury hotel experiences I've had, and it's worth every penny for a special occasion. I left already looking forward to my next visit. If you're visiting Monaco and want the very best, I can't recommend Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo highly enough."

"Although I was not staying at Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, I had the pleasure of visiting both the lobby lounge and the terrace, and it was a wonderful experience. The lobby is elegant, peaceful, and beautifully maintained, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a coffee. I visited on several occasions, both in the morning and around lunchtime, and each time the service was excellent. The coffee was very good and was served with a selection of delicious biscuits, which was a lovely touch. I also had breakfast on the terrace one morning and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The setting was beautiful, the atmosphere was calm and refined, and the breakfast was excellent. I especially enjoyed the omelette and coffee, both of which were prepared and served to a very high standard. The staff were professional, attentive, and welcoming throughout my visits, making me feel comfortable and well looked after. Overall, it was a beautiful and relaxing experience, and I would happily return on my next visit to Monaco. Kind regards, Georgiana"
