PB hotel design editorial

Jules Pellechet designed the Haussmannian hôtel particulier on Avenue Pierre 1er de Serbie in 1880 for the Marquis de Sers, and the bones of that commission — a monumental marble staircase, a carriage entrance wide enough for horse-drawn coaches, an original salon de réception with ornate plasterwork moldings — survived conversion to a hotel in 1935 and two subsequent renovations. The Hôtel de Sers reopened in June 2025 following a complete interior overhaul by Pascal Allaman, who threaded contemporary warmth through Pellechet's inherited architecture across 45 rooms and 7 suites. Allaman's palette moves between the warm and the graphic: oak parquet in a classic chevron pattern underfoot, full-height wall paneling in pale oak, and rounded boucle armchairs in rooms where balconies look out over Parisian zinc rooftops. The suites introduce lacquered folding screens printed with fantastical animal tableaux, contemporary collage works in dark frames, and sage-green upholstery that pulls the eye away from the terracotta accents running through the textiles and rugs. The bar takes a different mood altogether: tobacco-brown cylindrical lounge chairs arranged around a marble-fronted counter, a patterned carpet in amber and slate, and a ceiling installation of overlapping gold and white forms that hovers above the room like frozen foliage. The restaurant courtyard brings in wicker pendant lights and dense plantings of banana and bird-of-paradise, giving one of the Golden Triangle's most storied addresses an unlikely flash of jungle warmth.

About

Just steps from the Champs-Élysées, quietly set back from the city’s bustle, Hôtel de Sers reveals itself as a five-star retreat of noble discretion and singular character. Once the private residence of the Marquis de Sers, this timeless haven gracefully fuses the elegance of a Haussmannian hôtel particulier with the soul of a contemporary refuge. Every space, every texture, every detail seems to whisper a story—a reimagined tale of aristocratic Paris told with subtlety and care. The moment you step through its doors, the city’s frenzy fades. What remains is calm, elegance, and that rare sensation of entering a place shaped by history, guided by vision, and imbued with the effortless spirit of Paris itself.

"My daughter and I just returned from a wonderful stay in Paris, and our concierge, Gérald Martin-Cocher, made the trip truly unforgettable. Every recommendation was spot on — the most chic coffee spots, patisseries (exquisite mille-feuilles!), tucked-away bistros, and intimate dinner spots with real Parisian character. He also arranged two standout experiences: a private tour of the Musée d’Orsay that was intimate and insightful, and a croissant-making class that was the most memorable thing we did in the city. Every suggestion was thoughtful and tailored, with genuine care and warmth. He anticipated our needs before we even voiced them. The entire staff at Hotel de Sers was welcoming and helpful at every turn. If you’re staying at Hotel de Sers, lean on the concierge from day one. Gérald turned a good trip into an unforgettable one — we’re already planning our return!"
