PB hotel design editorial

Rue Vivienne has always traded in beautiful things on paper — the Bibliothèque nationale de France a few doors north, La Bourse with its stock certificates and ledgers just around the corner — and it is precisely this archive of graphic culture that Anne-Claire Majorel of Studio Majorel and Sonia Lemagnen of Agence Vertical drew on when renovating the former Grand Hôtel Vivienne into Hôtel Filigrane & Spa, which opened in January 2025. The name itself is a declaration: filigrane means watermark, the hidden signature pressed into paper, and the 43-room property wears its concept with corresponding precision. The deep-navy street facade, with its brass lettering and lacquered paneling, sets up a graphic seriousness that the lobby delivers on fully: walls in saturated Prussian blue, a reception desk paneled in warm oak slatting, amber suede banquettes, black marble tables with brass-edged rims, and cylindrical sconces in amber glass that give the whole room the feeling of a well-appointed private library after dark. The breakfast room raises the intensity further, with inverted brass shelving structures suspended from the ceiling and hung with glass vessels and gilded objects, the effect closer to an installation than a dining room. Guest rooms modulate the palette thoughtfully — some finished in forest-green ceramic tile with painted stripe wallcovering, others in walnut paneling with ochre leather armchairs and herringbone oak floors — each resolving into something that feels specific and committed. A private spa with pool, steam room, and sauna completes what is, for a 43-room four-star, an unusually generous brief.

About

A refuge with value Rue Vivienne, where this brand-new hotel in Paris's 2nd arrondissement is anchored, follows the trail of the Bourse and Bibliothèque de France. Hôtel Filigrane is loosely inspired by the many treasures associated with these two institutions: encrypted banknotes for the former, literature for the latter. Its contemporary appeal borrows the riches and lines of these historical treasures in a meticulous layering of graphic aesthetics. Like love letters from the past, the chic rooms, muted lobby and wellness area of Hôtel Filigrane capitalize on the surrounding buildings’ fine details to welcome you with a limitless indulgence.

"We chose this for its location, and weren't disappointed: several of the famous Parisian Passages are next door, and we enjoyed shopping and dining in them. Our room was very comfortable, with great amenities (shampoo, etc) and huge, fluffy towels. One day I had an upsetting travel experience (it happens, even to experienced travelers), and that day the manager, Arnauld, was there with friendly conversation and a welcoming presence. I didn't mention it to him, but just chatting in (excellent) English helped ease the experience and I was able to carry on with with my stay in lovely Paris. The maid service was daily, and was top-notch. We loved the views from our window as well, feeling a part of the city. The breakfasts were amply supplied, but we also enjoyed the boulangeries found locally, as well as being able to dine in the Passages right behind the hotel. We didn't use the amenities of the spa, but others might like that opportunity. For us, it was enough to have a comfortable room after a day of sightseeing."

"We had a wonderful 5-night stay at Hôtel Filigrane & Spa with my 8-year-old daughter Sofia—our second time here, and we already can’t wait to come back! A special thank you to Victor, who gave us such a warm welcome and made us feel at home from the very first moment. Also a big thank you to Giovanni at reception for his kindness and support throughout our stay, and to Dino at breakfast for making every morning so pleasant. The hotel is new, very clean, nicely designed, with a perfect central location in Paris, surrounded by great restaurants and sightseeing spots. The indoor heated pool and spa are a real highlight—perfect to relax after a day in the city. We truly loved everything about our stay—highly recommended for a family-friendly, central Paris hotel with excellent service! Grazie ancora per questo bellissimo soggiorno, torneremo sicuramente!"
