PB hotel design editorial

Two converted Haussmannian buildings on the Rue Turbigo, in Paris's 3rd arrondissement, give the Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers its structural logic and its name — a deliberate nod to the nearby Conservatoire national des arts et métiers, that grand institution dedicated to craft and industry. Architect Daniel Vaniche of DVVD stitched the pair of six-floor buildings together in 2017, while interior designer Raphaël Navot shaped the 66 rooms around a material philosophy that feels entirely at home in a neighbourhood long associated with artisan trades: stone, terrazzo, solid oak, and steel, all handled with bespoke precision rather than off-the-shelf hospitality finish. The heart of the property is a glass-roofed courtyard patio whose dark-painted steel structure opens to the Parisian sky, banquettes in worn blue velvet curving around walnut bistro chairs beneath a large-scale abstract mural in sea greens and dusty rose. The bar beyond works in darker tones, polished concrete and smoked steel partitions lined with leather counter stools, lush tropical plantings breaking the industrial seriousness. Guestrooms carry the same material honesty upstairs: pale board-formed concrete panelling behind the headboards, herringbone oak floors, teal throws against grey tweed upholstery, and curated artwork propped on oak shelving in a way that suggests a collector's apartment more than a hotel corridor. The overall effect is a property that wears its craftsman identity with genuine conviction.

"For what it charges (almost us$600 / night), I would have expected a bit higher service -- like lending us a European plug transformer (vs. charging us €12). They also didn't come to clean our room until 3 pm one day, and when we asked if they could return in 10 minutes, they just skipped the cleaning all together. It is a very trendy hotel and in a good location. You just don't get very much else for the cost."

"Our second time staying at this hotel. Thank you to all the staff, we hope we were good guests. We discussed with Mathieu at check out that maybe we need to book earlier and discuss our room options. The first time we stayed it was only one night and we faced the street, the park and church across the street. My girlfriend really liked that she can see the park in the church and people outside. This last time we stayed we faced an opposite building and I had no problem with it. One day it was so nice out that the roof retracted for the restaurant down below and we watched that happen. That room was quiet and even the one that faced the street, we have no problem with any noise, but we’re from Manhattan in New York City so, we live with a lot of noise. The weather was nice when we were in Paris, and the roof was open, so we hung out up there a little bit and played some backgammon together."

"Hotel is clean and modern , large elevators, great customer service . Very friendly staff , rooms are clean and command quiet. Roof top bar was fun and the restaurant ( not owned by the hotel ) had very good food and great service . Probably not ideal location for first time tourists , however Metro stop across the street . As an American I have stayed in a lot of Paris hotels and this was one of the most comfortable and pleasant staff . Merci"
