PB hotel design editorial

Facing the tranquil Square Louvois in Paris's 2nd arrondissement, where the Bibliothèque Nationale de France once drew scholars and writers to this quiet corner of the Vivienne quarter, a Haussmann-era limestone façade — its arched entrance canopy framed by wrought-iron lanterns and punctuated by the geometric ironwork grilles characteristic of late nineteenth-century Parisian construction — gives Hotel Square Louvois its composed, understated street presence. The building's most arresting design secret lies below ground: a vaulted stone cellar with rough-cut ashlar walls, probably predating the Haussmann rebuilding by centuries, has been fitted with a small lap pool edged in brass-railed stone steps and lit from within the water, candles arranged along the coping in a scene that feels closer to a Romanesque undercroft than a hotel wellness facility. The interiors carry a precise mid-century Parisian sensibility — slate-blue walls paired with warm taupe grasscloth panels, oak plank flooring, and copper Lampe Gras-style articulated reading lamps pivoting above the bed. Scatter cushions in deep navy with copper-button detail, a houndstooth accent chair, and black lacquered furniture with gold edge trim maintain the palette with discipline. The restaurant downstairs deepens the atmosphere further: charcoal panelling with white plaster cornicing, a wall of gold-patterned mirrors framed in brass, cognac leather banquette seating, and marble-topped bistro tables on herringbone parquet floors establish a room with genuine warmth and urban confidence.

"The hotel is the best we could have booked - perfect location (withing a walking distance to the Louvre and Tuileries , Les Halles, Opera, and , very important to us vegans - Cloud Cakes and brEAThe Restaraunts), helpful staff, very quiet location. The room was spacious enough for the 3 of us, and did feel like a quality room/stay."

"The hotel is situated conveniently on the border of the 1st and 2nd arrondissements making it a great location to easily walk to attractions like the Louvre, Notre-Dame, Galleria Lafayette, etc. it is also surrounded by great transport links to get to other attractions like the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Élysées. It is is also very easy to get to by metro when arriving into Paris. As the hotel is off a quiet side street you do feel removed from the chaos of the main streets which is nice in the morning and evenings. Our room was very well maintained and spacious for a Parisian hotel room. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. The amenities like the restaurant and the swimming pool were also very well maintained. The best part of the hotel was definitely the staff who were all very friendly and helpful. They made us feel very welcome. We were also very lucky as we were staying for New Year to receive a little gift of champagne with us to start our evening before heading out to celebrate the New Year. I would recommend this hotel for someone looking to be in the heart of Paris close to the main tourist attractions."

"The hotel is well situated near the Louvre and the Opera Garnier building. The hotel is modern and rooms are supplied with pretty much everything you’d want from a hotel room. The breakfast is good quality and had a good variety, though it’s not as extensive as other hotels I’ve stayed in. The staff are the biggest advantage this hotel has. They were sincerely friendly from start to finish, made numerous small gestures of gifts etc. for our family and were very accommodating to us. Definitely the best hotel staff I’ve encountered. On check out I told the staff that I’d stayed in 4-star hotels that weren’t as good as Hotel Square Louvois (Pullman Schweizerhof Berlin and Andaz Schwabinger Tor Munich being two such examples where the quality of staff fell well below the price point and star rating of the hotel). I’d stay at this hotel again, no doubt."

"This is a small lovely hotel. We had a room on the 5th floor which was very quiet. The room was clean and had everything we needed, including toiletries, bathrobes and tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was a good size and had a hairdryer. Breakfast was ample including cereals, pastries, pancakes and some hot food. The hotel provide hot drinks and cakes between 4-6pm which you can just help yourself too, which is lovely. There is a hot drinks machine for guests to use at anytime of day The hotel is in a good location for getting around Paris, about a 10 min walk from the Louvre. Staff are friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Paris."

"Great hotel in a wonderful location. It was close to many of the major tourist attractions but without feeling touristy. The room had recently been renovated and the space was large for a Parisian hotel. The pool in the basement was fantastic and you could book it for personal use in the evening. The staff was beyond accommodating. They gave us great restaurant recommendations and were friendly and helpful. I typically stay at a Hilton or Marriott but am glad I ventured off the beaten path and found this gem."
