PB hotel design editorial

Facing the tranquil Square Louvois in Paris's 2nd arrondissement, where the Bibliothèque Nationale de France once drew scholars and writers to this quiet corner of the Vivienne quarter, a Haussmann-era limestone façade — its arched entrance canopy framed by wrought-iron lanterns and punctuated by the geometric ironwork grilles characteristic of late nineteenth-century Parisian construction — gives Hotel Square Louvois its composed, understated street presence. The building's most arresting design secret lies below ground: a vaulted stone cellar with rough-cut ashlar walls, probably predating the Haussmann rebuilding by centuries, has been fitted with a small lap pool edged in brass-railed stone steps and lit from within the water, candles arranged along the coping in a scene that feels closer to a Romanesque undercroft than a hotel wellness facility. The interiors carry a precise mid-century Parisian sensibility — slate-blue walls paired with warm taupe grasscloth panels, oak plank flooring, and copper Lampe Gras-style articulated reading lamps pivoting above the bed. Scatter cushions in deep navy with copper-button detail, a houndstooth accent chair, and black lacquered furniture with gold edge trim maintain the palette with discipline. The restaurant downstairs deepens the atmosphere further: charcoal panelling with white plaster cornicing, a wall of gold-patterned mirrors framed in brass, cognac leather banquette seating, and marble-topped bistro tables on herringbone parquet floors establish a room with genuine warmth and urban confidence.

"In a great location, just 5 mins walk to the Louvre. Lots of nice restaurants and shops in the vicinity too. The staff are lovely, rooms spotless and the little breakfast area is lovely too if you book BnB. We had a classic room initially which was perfect for a city break. But we moved to an executive room on our last day and it was amazing. On the second floor it had beautiful tall windows that gave us a fabulous view. And the beds in both rooms were excellent. Fantastic showers too. We’ll definitely be back"

"Firstly , I wanted to say how lovely the staff were - everyone was so charming. We had a lovely room on the first floor, we were two friends so had twin beds - they were a little close together, but that may be the norm in Paris. Our room had French Windows with a Juliet balcony looking out onto the street, whether there is a park at the end of the road, which was quite lovely. It’s so well situated, there are plenty of restaurant nearby, it’s only a 15 minute walk to the Louvre and if you walk a few yards down the road to the main street, it’s very easy to pick up Ubers., The continental breakfast was lovely and we were pleasantly surprised by the complementary afternoon tea which is available between 4 pm - 6 pm. We made use of the lovely pool which you are able to book exclusively for an hour. The only thing that would’ve made it absolutely perfect is a few more plug sockets near the bed, there is only one plug socket in the desk across the room and there was no vanity mirror in their room for me to do my make-up. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel."

"We really enjoyed our 3 nights here. Normally we stay in the Montparnasse area but will come here on our next trip. Having a (hopefully temporary ) knee problem we didn’t take any metros and just visited the area close by. The covered Passages were delightful as was the Bibliotheque Nationale . We walked to the Olympia Theatre and through the gardens at the Louvre to the Musée D’Orsay. We had a lovely lunch at the Grand Colbert and dinner at Le Mesturet. We found the reception staff at this hotel so friendly and helpful. We didn’t see the cleaning staff but everything was immaculate and our room was beautifully prepared for our arrival. The hotel organised a car from the airport and a taxi back. Everything was perfect. Merci"

"Booked king size bed but somehow got twin size double bed and hotel was not able to accommodate adjusted back to king size. Room is basic given the price, shower is small and shower head is splashing water everywhere. Breakfast is great with egg, meat, veggie and bread options, location super convenient."

"We had the most magical stay at Hôtel Square Louvois—it truly felt like living a dream in the heart of Paris. Each morning began with their delightful French continental buffet breakfast, which quickly became a highlight of our stay. The baking was simply sumptuous, paired beautifully with rich French dairy—everything fresh, elegant, and unmistakably Parisian. The hotel’s health and wellness area is equally exquisite, and the indoor pool is honestly one of the prettiest I have ever seen—peaceful, refined, and the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring the city. While the location is outstanding—within easy reach of some of the capital’s most magnificent and iconic sites—it was the warmth and care of the team that truly made our stay unforgettable. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality turned what could have been a lovely stay into something truly special. For the rest of my life, I will always dream about what it felt like to live like a king during our time here. We cannot wait to return."
