PB hotel design editorial

Tucked into a narrow Haussmann-era street in the 1st arrondissement, just a short walk from the Place Vendôme's jewellers and the Tuileries gardens, Le Roch Hotel & Spa opened in 2017 as a 37-room property designed by French interior architect Anastasia Ioulkina. The Lutetian limestone facade — black awnings, sculptural iron window boxes trailing greenery — maintains the quiet civic composure of the surrounding streetscape while the teal front door signals a more particular sensibility within. Ioulkina's interiors move between a restrained Parisian palette and something more emphatically graphic: charcoal feature walls set against white plaster ceilings, beds upholstered in deep forest-green velvet, brass-framed nightstands in dark walnut, and custom geometric rugs that pull terracotta and teal into loose dialogue with one another. The bedroom walls carry scattered oval timber discs in place of conventional headboard panelling — a detail that gives the rooms their strongest identity. Downstairs, the glazed restaurant opens onto a planted courtyard through steel-framed windows, low swivel armchairs in teal, cobalt, and terracotta gathered around green marble-topped tables on patterned encaustic tile. Below ground, the spa pool is lined with dark slate and bracketed by exposed timber ceiling beams, tall iron lantern stands holding candles along the water's edge — a more meditative register than the floors above, and the clearest sign that Ioulkina thought carefully about what each level of the building should feel like.

"This is our second visit to this hotel and is as excellent as we remember. 5 star accommodations, location, food, service. We are touring Paris… Le Roch hotel is our choice here from now on."

"The pros: The Louvre Museum, shops, stores and so many other sights are a walking distance away. The steam room and pool are very nice, and because it’s such a small hotel, you often have it to yourself. There’s also a nice outdoor area to eat lunch. The cons: The decor looks cheap and rather old. Room doors have scratches on them, and walls are patched up badly. The elevator also was out of service twice during the two days we stayed there. Staff are also sometimes missing from the bar and restaurant, making it challenging to get a drink or grab food before running to explore the city. This hotel should be 3 stars versus 5"

"Hotel was great location and clean. Breakfast was somewhat limited - a bit disappointing for the French breakfast I was looking forward to. However would stay here again all things considered"

"I spent three nights at the Le Roch Hotel and had a fun time. This was my second trip to Paris, so I was comfortable with the city. I was able to reach the hotel in less than 30 minutes from Orly Airport on the Metro Line 14. Location in the First Arrondissement is perfect, right in the middle of touristy Paris. This is definitely a boutique hotel, with less than 40 rooms. My room overlooked Rue St. Roch and you could see the Ferris Wheel a few blocks down. There were four large windows, including one in the spacious bathroom. I would've preferred a shower stall, but the bathtub was quite nice. The bedroom area felt a bit tight, but I know that space is a premium in Paris. The pool in the basement was terrific. I went twice during my stay and only saw one other person there. There's also a Steam Room, which was a nice surprise. All the staff I interacted with were very friendly and spoke excellent English. There were two reasons I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I had breakfast on my first morning and it was mediocre. Quite pricey (29 Euros) and not a huge selection. Second, there was a billing error, which I only noticed while on the RER train to CDG airport. I was charged for two extra breakfasts, which took nearly two weeks to resolve, as many employees were taking their summer vacation. Overall, Le Roch has a superb location, great pool, and the ability to earn Marriott Bonvoy points. If I return to Paris, I'd consider staying here again."
