An 18th-century mansion hotel where Rosa Violán's interiors honor original architecture, parquet, and proportions.

Best for: Architecture enthusiasts and collectors of 18th-century Paris

Highlights:

  • 1734 hôtel particulier by Pierre Contant d'Ivry preserved intact
  • Rosa Violán interiors respect original panelling, herringbone floors, four-metre ceilings
  • Courtyard brasserie under retractable roof with marble bistro tables
Restrained-eleganthistorically-rooted

PB hotel design editorial

Pierre Contant d'Ivry's hôtel particulier at 4 rue d'Anjou has been absorbing Parisian history since around 1734, its cream limestone facade presenting the same rhythmic bays, wrought-iron balustrades, and mansard roofline to the 8th arrondissement that it always has. Maison Delano Paris, opened here in 2023, takes the position that this architecture needs a partner rather than a rival: Catalan designer Lázaro Rosa Violán brought a palette of warm whites, dusty beige, and moss green into rooms where original panelled walls, herringbone parquet, marble fireplaces, and ceilings approaching four metres in height set terms that no contemporary decorator could credibly override. The 56 rooms and suites carry that intelligence through in their furnishings — boucle armchairs with brass-footed pedestals, dark-stained walnut desks, and velvet upholstered benches in olive sitting against walls so close to white they hold colour differently at every hour. The dining room inside plays a more theatrical card: panoramic landscape murals in the manner of early nineteenth-century scenic wallpaper wrap the room above slate-blue banquettes, rattan chairs, and terracotta leather seating gathered under a coffered plaster ceiling. Beyond it, the interior courtyard converts the mansion's back elevation into a retractable-roofed brasserie, with marble bistro tables, iron garden chairs, and navy-framed French doors framing the scene in a way that feels genuinely Parisian without straining for the effect.

"Staying here was a mistake. They claim to be a five star hotel, but there was no part of this property that reflected that except the price. The service was underwhelming, and while they would give lip service to doing the right thing, their follow through and execution was lacking. Before our arrival I tried to arrange transport through the hotel (which was successful after several tries), but never was given info like meeting place, etc. I requested restaurant recommendations (multiple times) and never received a response. I now know that there is no onsite concierge, and its probably some shared service out of India. Upon arrival, one of our rooms was REALLY warm. Like 80f and humid. They promised that it would cool down. Ultimately they brought an "AC Unit" to the room, which comprised of a small box with ice in it on rollers that blew slightly cool air out. We were tired, so we all went to bed. An hour later my wife almost slipped walking through the puddle of water that was leaking from this AC Unit. So we had it removed. Eventually it cooled down a bit. Throughout the trip it remained warm, with them continually saying they would fix it. Paid for an upgrade to a suite, but realistically the Prestige rooms were literally nicer. Anytime there were issues, they immediately would give you this unrealistic "we will fix that in three minutes" but nothing ever ACTUALLY happens. So the night before our departure we moved our airport transfer we had booked through the hotel at $250 per vehicle (should have just booked UberXL for $75) from 7am to 6:30am based on how long it looked like it would take to get through security. The guy at the desk PROMISED he would clearly communicate the change. So the next morning, one car is there on time...and the other is nowhere to be found. I go back in and the guy says "the second one will be here in three minutes." 10 minutes later it isn't there so he comes out and says "I guess you should order an uber." Fortunately about 5 minutes later (while queuing for an uber) the second car shows up at 6:50am saying that he hadn't been told of a new time. And finally, during checkout I ask for the folio / invoice to be emailed. Six hours later still haven't received it...so follow up and ask again. Also asked for a discount on the airport transfer gone wrong. Email 1 - Says they will discount by removing one of the two transfers, see attached invoice. Except there is no attached invoice. I ask again. Email 2 has the invoice, but no discount. I ask again. Email 3 actually has the invoice that actually has the discount. The whole experience reminds me of a poorly ran Motel 6."

"The good: - location - very central and well located - room was spacious and well appointed The disappointments: - bidet was broken the first night and staff claimed 3x to have fixed it but didn’t and would not switch rooms for me - breakfast selection was not great - they delivered someone else’s dry cleaning to my room which was not mine - they don’t know whose it was"
