PB hotel design editorial

Perched at the edge of Bonnieux, one of the Luberon's most dramatic hilltop villages, a cluster of warm limestone bastide buildings commands a view that sweeps across the valley toward Lacoste and the Petit Luberon beyond. Capelongue, now part of the Beaumier collection, was long associated with chef Édouard Loubet, whose kitchen gardens and regional cooking gave the property its original identity. The recent redesign reoriented the hotel around its architecture and landscape rather than any single culinary personality, with interiors recalibrated in a palette drawn directly from the surrounding garrigue — terracotta, raw linen, oxidised oak, and the particular warm ochre of Provençal earth. The restaurant is the clearest expression of the new vision: exposed timber roof beams span a whitewashed vaulted space, arched windows framing pine and stone in equal measure, a fluted oak service island anchoring the room at centre. Wicker pendant lights hang low over terracotta tile floors, and rush-seated chairs recall the regional craft traditions the Beaumier group tends to invoke across its portfolio. Guest rooms carry the same material logic — ribbed terracotta headboards, full-height oak joinery panels, seagrass benches, and small-format vintage prints — with sheer linen curtains softening the afternoon light that falls through French windows. Outside, a freeform pool sits within clipped box hedging and lavender rows, the medieval village rooftops visible just beyond the cypress line.

"The property was spacious, elegant, and top notch. The staff was professional, courteous, and went above and beyond. For these reasons it is expensive to stay here and worth the expense. In life, you get what you pay for."

"A beautiful hotel walking distance from Bonnieux, a quintessential Provencal village. The onsite restaurant, La Bergerie, was excellent. We booked an Amex FHR rate and got upgraded to a beautiful suite with a large terrace. The mini bar was free as one of the benefits (and stocked with high-quality items!). Overall, one of our favorite hotels during a one-month long vacation in Europe."

"Didn’t stay at the hotel but in a nearby villa. Ate here as a treat having read about the restaurant online. Strength. Great food well cooked by people who care. Amazing views. Great wine choice. Disability access is good with suitable restrooms. Weakness. Lack of focus by the serving staff. The fact it attached to a five star hotel means it doesn’t have local flavour. If you want to celebrate this may be the place for you."

"I chose the hotel to visit my daughter and grand children. A little challenging on the windy round from Loumarin, especially in the dark, but all part of the fun Chipped it for two reasons - room 501 had a covered seating out area, which meant it was impossible to catch the sun. But the main reason was we returned after a day out at 5-30 and then the lady turned up to service the room. For the price, way too late to be doing a room clean / service. Eat in the main restaurant not the. Michelin one. Found the menu, especially the starters a little narrow. Lots of meat, would have liked a few international dishes. Breakfast was good not great. Lovely room and location. We will be back but for the price doesn’t quite make it to 5 stars."
